USPS not scanning packages

Is anyone else having a problem with USPS not scanning every package? I have packages from the 20th of July (today is the 25th) that still have not been scanned. I went to the local post office where I drop off packages and after standing in line for 45 minutes, spoke to a supervisor about this. Her response was "lately, we've been overwhelmed and haven't had a chance to scan everything that comes in",. Well, why the hell do you offer tracking if you're not scanning packages? Apparently the station (Detroit) that the packages are being sent to are also not scanning. It's a huge mess with angry buyers thinking that I'm holding on to their packages for days at a time.

I forget to mention.... Take a screen shot of this thread and send it to customers that don't believe you.  If you take a screen shot make sure you cover up all the seller names in the thread.

USPS not scanning packages

I have been having about 3 out of 10 packages getting hung up. Some go through like normal and some get stuck somewhere. I am checking tracking and emailing buyers about packages ahead of time so they know. This is a growing problem that I hope gets better. The PO line to get packages scanned is super long with only 2 clerks working in the Los Angeles area. I ordered something myself too and its hung up somewhere in Florida and not moving. This is becoming a big mess. I hope that sellers will not get dinged.

I don't sell a ton, but maybe a few packages a week so I just have the regular mail person pick it up from my mailbox. I am in Missouri and I had two issues back in April and May where I had packages that literally were not updated and delivered over a month after I originally shipped it. They would be updated to a certain point and just sit there it seemed. I am not having this issue with a handful of packages I shipped out on the same day. It was updated as leaving my local P.O. and then days later it still has "In transit, arriving on time". It is stressful because I am afraid I am going to have to refund all these orders. Apparently, the new Postmaster general has made some terrible changes to operations which are causing these delays. It was reported in the Washington Post the other day.

I ship at 3 different post offices, depending on what I am doing that day.

Even if I only have ONE package to ship, I always print a SCAN sheet, and I wait in line for the counter clerk to scan my sheet.  I don't check the tracking for the shipped packages, but I do see the DELIVERED statement when looking at my ORDERS in Seller Hub when I have a need to do so.

My local small town PO is great, but packages get stalled for days in the main Sacramento Hub.... I already had ebay refund one because it wasn't received on time and buyer filed a "did not receive" claim.  I have 3 other lost package claims in, another 1 where buyer filed. GRRRR ... please ebay extend the time limits at least. Good sellers are hurting and for something we can not control.

OMG!  What city??  I need to temporarily relocate til this mess is over.  I am lucky if I get 3 out of 10 packages scanned!  And that is even after leaving a SCAN sheet with my box of packages on the counter!  You are so lucky!!

Washington, DC. My local post office is extremely good about scanning everything that comes through their doors, even if you just leave it on the counter or drop it in the bin. I think only once have I ever had something I dropped off on the counter not get scanned at the post office itself.

I don't understand why post offices don't want to/refuse to scan packages-- all that does is hurt their metrics! AFAIK, they don't get credit for handling any packages that don't get scanned at their post office, so why wouldn't they want to make sure they get credited for everything they process? Small post offices have even less of an excuse because they only get a fraction of the volume that the larger ones do.

Give the post office a break.  They are overwhelmed with Christmas package volume because so many people are selling online due to Covid.

Also if you use Media Mail, those are low priority packages and may not get scanned for up to a week.  In this case use First Class or Priority for quicker scanning.

Hi @springcompcare, try to be patient. It's common now that packages, like your returns, are never scanned until they reach the destination distribution facility, and on to the local post office, where you should finally see an Out for delivery, then the scan showing Delivered back to your seller. Just give it a little more time than usual Jeff, as they are moving but simply not being scanned.

I am also in N. CA and I have had several packages getting hung up in Sacramento. I shipped one over 2 weeks ago to S. CA and it still has not arrived. It was also an item eBay took it upon themselves to put "guaranteed delivery" on.  Many buyers are downright nasty about it, accusing me of not sending orders.  I also have had issues with FedEx, UPS and DHL. All of them are screwed up right now.  Ebay needs to address this problem.

USPS not scanning packages

The new Trump-appointed Postmaster General (who has absolutely NO experience at USPS) has ordered NO overtime for ALL USPS employees -- so don't blame the poor folks standing behind the counter!  What those folks are doing now is prioritizing their daily tasks -- and scanning tracking labels on packages has fallen near the bottom of the list.

Some days I no longer receive my mail, because the mail carrier has been ordered to cease delivery when there are only 10 minutes left in his 8-hour shift.  I have actually watched him stop in mid-delivery, turn around, and race his truck back to the sorting unit at 5:20 PM!

The only way to be sure that your items are being scanned on time, is to get in line with the rest of us, and wait your turn at the window for a physical scan.  The Postmaster General wants USPS to get a far worse reputation, so that the shipping charges on USPS packages can be quadrupled -- Trump has made no secret of that intention for many months now; and slowing down the service will only add to his argument.

The new Postmaster General and his wife are also heavily invested in UPS, it was reported yesterday.  Can anyone say "ulterior motives"?

Please double check the tracking number is correct. I know I am stating the obvious here. I have had this happen to me a few times only for the package to be scanned once it reached its final destination. I understand the frustration when selling items tough.

Certain post offices and terminals have been more affected than others with the virus attack. we see that in the tracking scans. It will be going okay and then gets stuck in one of these for a couple weeks.  the post office has been working without a full staff in some areas. they sure are causing us shippers a lot of upset customers.  I have watched the mail carrier scan packages, hear the noise it was scanned and it will not be scanned  until a week after it was delivered
