Totally ripped off by Ebay's practices

I can't believe Ebay has come to this. I guy a simple item that could be mailed in a small package. But the seller sends it through "the global shipping program." So you really have no idea when it will arrive until you get an email, in my case from Intelcom that "Your package is out for delivery and will be there in the next three hours"

Well, I was just going out and would be gone all day. Assuming they would know I was not home and would make another delivery attempt or leave a notice of where I could pick up the package, I didn't worry about it.

I get home to an email that says, "Your package was delivered!" with a picture "proving" it, which was a shot of the outside of my apartment building. Yes I live in an apartment building, and there is no lobby. If you can't get past the front door (and you can't) then you don't get in, period. So they left the package outside my building, where anyone could see it, and steal it, which apparently they did.

So I contact Intelcom, or TRY to through the emails and website. And there is NO phone number, NO way of contacting them. So I fill out their "Didn't get my package" form, and chose specifically "My package was stolen." All I get is, "Your package shows as delivered. If there are any problems, contact the merchant."

Oh but wait, there IS no way to contact the merchant. I remember when you COULD. You could send them a direct message, they would GET the message and you could communicate. NO MORE apparently. I try to send the seller a message but to do that, it's another form. So I fill it out, "Didn't get my package" field. I get an email saying "A case has been opened." About 15 minutes later, I get another email, "Case is closed because it shows your package was delivered."

So I "appealed" the case, and explained for the second time, all details and sent that in. It's the next day now and I have heard nothing.

Okay maybe if I go back to the original item, (still being sold, they have more than one) to ask a question, I could contact the seller. Nope, Ebay once again preventing this. I fill out THAT form, and when I hit submit, Ebay informs me that "All messages are scanned for content, and if Ebay deems the question inappropriate, the message will not be delivered."

So I figure ONE way to get the seller's attention is to leave negative feedback. I don't WANT to do this. The seller has 3000 items and 100% positive feedback. And I'm sure if I could CONTACT the seller, they might step in and do something or try to help. So I leave negative feedback, with another explanation of what is happening. It's the next day after THAT, and the seller's feedback is 100% and my feedback nowhere to be found.

So, it's literally impossible to inform the seller of what has happened. Ebay is no help at all. The shipping company is no help at all.

It is definitely NOT acceptable to leave a package outside an apartment building where anyone can steal it. If you can't deliver it to me, then WAIT. Or, I have a novel idea, why not just MAIL it and it would come directly to my mailbox and NOT be stolen, would cost $5.00 instead of the nearly $14.00 it cost to use the "Global Shipping Program."

I am astounded at the uselessness of Ebay's procedures and doubt I will be ever using it again.

Again, nothing I did, no direction I gave caused the package to be stolen. Faulty delivery did. So yes, there should bloody well be insurance and a trackback to someone to assume responsibility. The Global Shipping cost me $14.00 whereas they could have charged me $5.00 by mailing it to me. So yes, you would think....

Re: Totally ripped off by Ebay's practices

When I picked up my package, that was a different package. And that's what I should have done. I'm amazed that no one can see what went on here. No, I didn't assume they would know I was not home, until they tried to buzz me, and no answer, so i WAS NOT HOME! Leaving a package outside, basically on the street is the stupidest thing I can imagine anyone doing. I would love to blame the shipping company but they take no responsibility and refer me to Ebay.

Re: Totally ripped off by Ebay's practices

It is the fault of the shipping company, who referred me to Ebay when I explained everything. If the com;pany refuses to take responsibility for this type of thing, Ebay shouldn't be using them. Intelcom has a LITTANY of complaints against it. Someone should notice this. It's Ebay's shipping program after all.

Yes, because I did it last week.

Re: Totally ripped off by Ebay's practices

The seller did not choose the shipping company.

And eBay did not choose the shipping company.

Somebody else chose Intelcom as the shipping company.  And Intelcom screwed up.

And now Intelcom is attempting to pass the buck back to those who had nothing whatsoever with delivering your item.

And that's just wrong.

If Intelcom refuses to help you, report them to your local political representative, or whatever business association covers such policies (in the USA, we have the Better Business Bureau).

But stop blaming eBay or the seller -- neither selected Intelcom to deliver your package.

Because I TRIED to blame the driver. I phoned the company and I filled out their online thing, Intelcom, and they told me, "We're sorry about this. Please contact the merchant." It was SOMEONE other than me that decided to use a lousy service was unable to safely deliver this package. You would think Intelcom would refund me but they just refer me back to Ebay. This entire experience is why I will never use Ebay again. Doesn't have to be a shipping issue. Could be any issue, and they have proven to me that they assume no responsibility when they should. I read a recent article showing Ebay's customers have shrunk 13% over the last year. Gee, I wonder why.

eBay is refusing to take responsibility because this is a situation where they aren't responsible...you should be complaining because the shipping company is refusing to take responsibility. Obviously the same shipping company had you pick up the package elsewhere before.  This time they failed to follow that procedure this time.

Re: Totally ripped off by Ebay's practices

Sellers are NEVER responsible for items stolen from a porch or lobby.  As long as the item shows delivered, they are off the hook.  LEAVE the seller alone.  How dare you even think of posting a negative for that seller.  That reason is grounds for feedback abuse and definitely removable.     You obviously have a thief  in the building or neighborhood.     It is the buyer's responsibility to have a safe place for delivery.

If the carrier can't get into the building , that is not the seller's fault either.

eBay actually contracts with Pitney Bowes to expedite the shipping of international packages through the Global Shipping Program.

No matter how you try to spin it - it is the fault of the driver for Intelcom and their driver. Their decisions and policies got your package left outside your apartment building. Not eBay. Not your seller. You need to go back to Intelcom and find a live person to communicate with and continue to push your case if you want relief.

In addition, you have responsibility to make arrangements for a secure location for delivery of packages.  It seems like you've been lucky up to this point, but if your building is secured and in a location that packages will be stolen from the curb, perhaps you need the equivalent of a post office box for deliveries of items when you're not home.

Frankly, your seller has likely blocked you from communicating with them further. They've done their job - they got the package to your doorstep. You have threatened them with negative feedback (which would likely be removed by eBay anyway) for something that they have no control over.

One thing that international buyers often don't realize is that postage is expensive in the US - there is no country that I could directly ship a package to that would only cost $5. I can't ship a 12oz package across the county for $5 let alone a international package. I use Global Shipping because it 100% stopped the INR claims for me. I am willing to give up a certain percentage of sales to not have to refund fake INR claims.

Re: Totally ripped off by Ebay's practices

Lots of sellers here acting as apologist for the bay and its not responding to a buyers complaint. Delivery drivers dumping packages to be stolen would concern me as a seller $15.00 postage for an non secure drive by --- with day of delivery mostly wrong ?

Re: Totally ripped off by Ebay's practices

That's because the problem has nothing to do with a failure on the part of eBay.
