Safety, deffected

I was going to transport a sold heavy item to UPS to ship it to the buyer. Unfortunately It fall down while I was taking it out of my truck and got damaged. its not safe to operate it any more. How can I notify eBay of this mishap and the reason that I can't ship the item, so the buyer can receive her deposit back??

Please advise.

Thanks,

Ray

You would initiate a cancellation along with an explanation.

As a new seller, I'd avoid heavy/difficult to ship items.

cancle sale for item no longer available. You will get a deficit as this is your fault.

Inform buyer you dropped it and damaged it prior to doing so.

What deposit? Had the buyer not paid you the entire amount?

And the very first thing you need to do is notify the buyer.

Worked out well for you (except for the defect) because it's hard to believe shipping would have been so cheap, even if your buyer just lived a few miles away.

Finally, there are some things that are better listed as local pickup only.

Thank you for you reply,

Yes you're right, these type of heavy items, better be listed as local pick up.

I've notified the buyer of the mishap. I believe she paid about $19.50 for part of shipping. She asked me to notify eBay so she get her shipping deposit back. the item # 185473673396 was an inversion Table Teeter LX9 it very heavy. was sold for $291.50, but I've got paid for it.

Is there any ways that I can notify eBay directly ??

It's my 1st time, I've listed and item to sale on eBay.

Thanks,

Ray

@shaldes-14

The way to notify eBay directly is by cancelling the order, citing "Out of stock/Item is no longer available". Since you're new to selling, I'll tell you that the best way to handle your  business is by yourself, and is automated. This is not a time that any seller needs to reach out to eBay.

To cancel the order, go to Seller Hub/Orders. Use the drop-down menu to the left of the order and tick 'Cancel order'.

You have to refund the buyer's entire payment, of course.

Large flat rate box?

Good thing your dropped it, because I'm sure you would have dropped it anyway when you passed out after finding out the shipping cost.

Re: Safety, deffected

Do take a photo of the damaged item incase the buyer does not believe you.  You cancel the sale for the reason stated above and then refund the money.  The payment will automatically go back to the buyer.  Let them know.  They will receive an email from ebay that you cancelled and one that they have been refunded.  It might take a day or two for the money to go back to the original source of the payment.

Also, I recommend that you figure out how to do ebay by listing small items  and somewhat inexpensive items.  Get a scale.  Get measuring tape.  Learn the new postal surcharges on big items.  To complicate things more, NEW postal rates will start on July 10.     So you and all other sellers should start editing their shipping rates 15 seconds after reading this post.

Re: Safety, deffected

Why would the buyer pay only "part of shipping"?

And why would she expect to get a "shipping deposit" refund from eBay? Didn't the buyer pay you for the shipping?

And you do understand that a defect for a new 0 FB seller will pretty much trash your eBay career, right?

^^^ This gives me pause. Have you signed up for Managed Payments, or did you list before you onboarded?

You must have a payment option on file to pay eBay fees... I have a CC attached to mine, in case I need it.

At this point, eBay will only be looking for the $.30 Transaction Fee (since the order has been cancelled); the FVFs will be reversed with the cancellation from your Funds 'On hold'. So, they want thirty cents. 😐

If you haven't attached an account, do so. Account Settings/Seller Account/Payments/Preferred for selling costs. 🙌

Re: Safety, deffected

Also, OP mentions a "partial payment" for shipping and also that the buyer wants him to notify eBay so he can get his shipping deposit refunded.

Seems like there may be more issues here than those we originally recognized.
