Safety, deffected

I was going to transport a sold heavy item to UPS to ship it to the buyer. Unfortunately It fall down while I was taking it out of my truck and got damaged. its not safe to operate it any more. How can I notify eBay of this mishap and the reason that I can't ship the item, so the buyer can receive her deposit back?? 

Please advise.

You may be right. The more said here the less sense it makes. For some reason the seller seems to think that canceling this transaction is not how to do this? What would a partial shipping payment be? There does seem to be a lot of what if what?
