Postal issue

Hello! I shipped a large package from Arizona to Ohio on December 8th.  Large box weighing 13 pounds of a new in box four piece place setting of Lenox China. Three days later I received from buyer "I want a refund" and he opened a case. I immediately sent buyer an email that I shipped 24 hours after purchase and item was shipped USPS priority mail with tracking and to be patient. Since then buyer continues to request refund which actually I don't blame him, I have contacted ebay twice and they have extended my time for item to be delivered and have now extended it till 1/4/21. I have been to my post office twice and was told be patient and that's it. I contacted USPS by email twice. I first requested for missing item and received an email back stating it was still in transit but tracking shows no movement for me. Then I requested an intercept and paid the fee. I received on 12/24/20 an email they would not do an intercept but they did refund my money. Suggestions on what to do now? Money and claim is still on hold per ebay. Thank you in advance!

Re: Postal issue

If the package has shown no movement for 7 days, I think it is, eBay will consider it lost and ask you to refund. That you got it extended to the 4th is amazing. All you can do is hope it arrives by then. If it arrives after you refund, hopefully you have an honest buyer that will repay or return it to you.

Re: Postal issue

Do you mind me asking why the USPS would not do an intercept?

Re: Postal issue

No reason why in email from USPS. I went to my post office with note from USPS and they said they are so slow and behind there is a good chance they would not be able to intercept and they don't want the liability. At least that is what I was told.

Re: Postal issue

Since money and case is on hold I don't have the money to refund. So it never went into my account per managed payments it was still processing. Something tells me the set will be bye bye as far as compensation but will try if he receives it.

Re: Postal issue

Hello Again! Well since yesterday tracking shows movement in Ohio. Funny how I post the situation and then something happens. This delay is since 12/9/20.  It doesn't say out for delivery but it has moved! Should I contact buyer of movement? Every time I contact him he just says three words...want a refund. Advise. Thank you in advance! Susan

@suleepink

DO NOT under any circumstance issue a refund without having the items in your hand!  Period.  Buyer could be scamming you.  Once you refund and the package arrives, buyer has no incentive to return the item.

One COULD go on line and file a Package Intercept and pay the fees IF you are required to refund under an INR case.  It may work.  Look, PO is swamped and the easiest thing is to tell customers anything to make them go away, especially if it means less work for them.  So take what one person told you with a grain of salt.  When dealing with the government, if you don't like the answer you get, call back as you'll get someone else and likely a different answer.  One can always appeal locally to the Postmaster, the "boss" of the local operation.

Next you need to go to this link and read carefully the eBay notice on late shipments.  That will give you guidance on the timing for giving refunds under a INR case.  You can read it from the horse's mouth or get interpretations here.  That movement yesterday extends the time for delivery.

Now all of this said, even when the item is delivered the buyer may file a case for Not As Described (NAD) and ask the item be returned and refunded.  IF that happens come back here for advice.  DO NOT communicate with buyer through email other than eBay messaging.  Do not "do something" you "think" is right as you could suffer a MAXIMUM loss scenario - lose the item and the money.  Try to take any emotions out of this situation and work the process to your advantage.

I am guessing that with this buyer you are going to lose some money, the key is that the actions you take or do not take will determine how much money you lose.  SO play it smart and work to minimize your losses.

Good luck and keep asking!

Re: Postal issue

Ohio, Ohio, Ohio. Serious problems with usps in Ohio.  I have two packages shipped to Ohio December 9 that still haven’t been delivered. No movement since the 18th. If you do a search you will see that they have trailers full of packages parked outside the distribution center in Cleveland because they don’t have enough employees to get them moving. I wouldn’t worry too much. Eventually they will be delivered. And surprisingly the usps has already refunded you. What do you have to worry about?

Re: Postal issue

It will get delivered late as most packages are. Theres also a good chance it arrives in pieces. Packages are taking a beating. FedEx ground might have been a better option.

Re: Postal issue

Thank you for all your info. I filed online an intercept first part of last week and on 12/24 USPS sent me an email refunding me my money for intercept and said they could not do it. No reason why. My postal guy at my local post office said it probably is moving but tracking wasn't saying it.

Re: Postal issue

Most likely because they know packages will be delivered but late. Some very late. They can barely do their job of delivering the mail much less catching it at the buyers post office and sending it back.

Re: Postal issue

I don't believe them not taking an intercept.  That is done all electronically. The intercept would occur at the delivery office once they received it automatically via a scan.  It instructs the clerk to return to the sender.  No big deal. In fact, I did an intercept 2 weeks ago.  And the USPS would not refund you your money for postage just because of a late package. Sorry, I am not buying it. I worked for the USPS as a Postmaster for over 33 years.

Re: Postal issue

No, that's not true. They do not do an intercept at the physical Post Office.  It is all done online. Come on. Your story is very thin.

Re: Postal issue

I have no idea how long ago you worked for usps but its a mess often. Every year it gets worse. I have been shipping for 20 years almost daily. There are workers there doing and making up nonsense. Some do get fired. Eventually.

In the mean time there is shenanigans galore. One old timer lady there is so ridiculous. I rarely deal with her but every day another person comes out in the lobby and says something not nice about her.

It's almost daily and again shes not only one. The alcoholic nonsense by another long time can be just as ignorant. I would write a 50 page story so I'll stop.

I'm saying tho that USPS clerks do all kinds of things often. Whether you want to believe it or not. I wished we had a postmaster there who cared about customers and giving correct info. Turnover in postmasters is constant there.

You are sent on a wild goose chase if you ask a question. Often I am the one trying to guide upset customers as I'm finishing my packages every day

Re: Postal issue

That is what the email said. Short and sweet. My postal guy here in Arizona  read the email and really didn't have a reason either. Then explain why they refunded me my money I authorized online for approximate $14 for the fee.
