Update to notifications

Hello all, today we released an update to notifications on both desktop and mobile community, to make it faster and easier to see your current unread notifications.

When hovering your cursor over the bell icon a drop down menu will appear. This menu will display your unread notifications. There is a scroll bar on the right side of the menu to allow for scrolling through notifications. You can then click on a specific notification to view it, or you can click the 'View All' option in the upper right to see all of your notifications. On mobile a tap on the bell icon will display the same actions.

Note you can scroll within the window, and click on the View All link at the top right of the window, in the grey bar, to see all of your notifications, old and new.

See below for a screen shot:

Update to notifications

I don't see it being faster, now it takes two clicks and moving the mouse to get the list of notifications in a readable format.  So, for me, it's not really an improvement.  Others may differ.

Not a streamlined update to be sure.

This seems like rather a useless use of time for ebay considering all the other glitches and problems happening across the site.

The update is buggier than what it replaced.  Before, if my notification bell showed a number greater than 0 despite their being no new notifications, if I refreshed the screen 4 times, the bell would return to 0.   Now, despite no new notification, the bell is stuck on 1.  No amount of refreshing will make it go to 0.

Hi, please try clearing your cookies and cache to see if that fixes it? Thanks!

Cleared cache, cookies, closed browser - so far so good but I haven't gotten any notifications so far.

Now we have a new glitch.  On the Selling board at least, the OP is repeated as reply #1.   There is no button to press to reply to the OP.  You have to go to the repeat of the OP and then you get that newfangled reply box.  Which seems to work OK but I somehow think the new reply box is what is causing the repeat of the OP.

Thanks for the notification.............which I didn't see until today......

One still has to click into the notifications to clear the #........ so frankly the snippets are more or less useless to me..........  just my opinion

I agree dh, more clicks involved, not an improvement.

The biggest annoyance for me is that when you click on the bell like we're used to- the preview window closes. You then have to move the mouse away and move it back to make the preview reappear then click view all.

Can you make it so clicking on the bell takes you to view all instead of closing out the preview? rebecca@ebay

I agree with the others. Making someone to have to click 2 more times is not an "improvement".

And unless you navigate to the "View All" page the bell now DOESN'T clear the individual navigation when you click on it.  It just hangs out there... Now it takes even MORE extra clicks to reset the darn bell.  Great design... if you are on a pay-per-click contract.....

rebecca@ebay  so now I am not getting notifications on threads I posted in, when someone replys with a post, when someone mentions, when someone likes etc... the notifications sent to email stopped working weeks ago, now with this change notifications through community aren't working most of the time.

@nuclearomen We are still looking into the email notification issue and believe we've found the cause. A fix is currently being worked on but there isn't an ETA on when it will be complete.

If you have an example of a mention you received but didn't receive a notification for then I can have Khoros investigate it. We definitely need notifications to work properly!

brian@ebay
example, notifications feed isn't giving me notice of threads being posted in after I posted in them, there should be multiple notices for the threads under your mention notice I got for threads below it that had activity since the notices that I did get...but nothing, I have no idea the thread had activity unless i go into them and scroll. In other words, notifications received on feed are random, sometimes they post and show and others they do not

Just bringing this up again, we still have to click into View All to clear the notifications, making the popup list just a waste of our time.
