Seeing issues with the new Community platform?

Thank you for helping us catch those bugs! While we did work hard to make sure we caught any issues before we released the new changes to the Community, there might be some issues that we didn’t catch. If you find any issues, please post them only here. The Community team will be actively monitoring this post and we’ll work as fast as we can to get them resolved. No need to @ mention us, if you post here.

Be sure to include links to the pages, screenshots, which browser you’re using and other relevant information you can share.

Update as of 03/05: Thanks for your feedback! I'll be tracking updates here.

Seeing issues with the new Community platform?

@eburtonlab wrote:

Prior to the changes, I would typically read through the list of new community posts on the community discussion page here:

https://community.ebay.com/

Previously posts were sorted by the time of the latest response rather than the original post, and the username and time and date was shown for each original post and the latest responder. As others have mentioned, this made it easy to see which topics have been responded to by a knowledgeable poster or by an eBay staff member, as opposed to threads that just have multiple "me too" responses and that have not really been answered yet. Showing the time of the latest response along with the date made it easy to tell if a thread was responded to since the last time the feed was checked.

The only options to sort the community discussion feed now are "most recent [original post]" "most viewed" "most helpful" or "most commented", most of which are very useful for responders. A more useful option would be "most recently responded to".

In addition, the discussion feed is now filled with eBay Motors App General posts of photos of vehicles. This was not present in the discussion feed prior to the changes, and the posts now appearing are much more frequent than the CBD spam posts ever were.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/General/bd-p/ebay_motors_app_general

Changes to the way posts are displayed has already cut down the number of posts that can be shown on a single page, but the inclusion of these extra posts in the feed further limits the utility of the page, and thus requires much more scrolling to get through the same number of actual posts, making it just that much harder to keep track of where things have been left off.

To try to get around these limitations, I have started to read more individual groups such as the Member to Member Support group. I notice that threads on that board do not have any time or date displayed at all, making it extremely difficult to keep track of which posts are new since the last time I checked the board:

Member To Member Support - The eBay Community

Absolutely agree with all of this.

I believe this update is basically a disaster for the community. Posts will receive much less attention, will be lost easier, responses won't be able to be tracked, and overall community interaction is going to be less as a result.

Active discussions will quickly scroll off the first page, and nobody will even know it has received replies. In order to participate in these active discussions, people will have to scroll page after page to find them.

Seriously, is the goal here to harm the community? We're currently on the track to reducing community interaction over time. And if nothing is done soon, it's just going to steadily decline.

As I showed in my screenshot earlier, it just mere seconds to address most of the issues. So if no changes are made, the intent of this update is clear.

Adblock + removes it.

I worked it a bit with my Adblock, but it proved to be futile. Removed something in a big block of uselessness, but the big block remained.

Well, I don't have Adblock +, so guess I will deal with it, or it may be less of a problem with less visits.

With increasing temps, and maybe some sunshine, my time may be better spend applied to things that are not in an ever increasing scroll, scroll, scroll, click, click, click wasted effort downward spiral .

Minor annoyance - but why do some posts in the same thread show a mix of "Helpful" and "Kudoed"?

Isn't  "Kudo" an older, discontinued term?

@ferncliff-39 if you can share a link to some posts/threads with the Kudo term then we'll work on getting it changed. Thanks!

brian@ebay  - here's the thread I was referring to. I noticed that the box initially shows "Helpful", but when I click it, it changes to "Kudoed".  Is it just me lol?  Not seeing it elsewhere unless I try to mark it Helpful.

Tried that. Then I had to move my chair closer to the screen to read the smaller print😋

Both of those are Answer format.

I had noticed the same thing yesterday when marking a post in the Answer Center.

It went from "Helpful" to "Kudoed".

Khoros - kudoKhoros - kudo

@shipscript  Mine was in discussion board under shipping. I believe it was a moved thread, but still within the discussion boards.

Seeing issues with the new Community platform?

I read various discussion boards every day to keep up with changes (announced and unannounced) and the latest software glitches.

This new format will make it very difficult to keep myself informed because:

All that unused space, the big purple blob at the top of the page, and the scrolling, scrolling, scrolling.

Posts in date creation order.

No clue who replied to a post.

Can't mouse over to see the beginning of a post.

and all the things mentioned above.

I keep wanting to reach into my laptop and squeeze everything down to a usable form.

In the decades I' ve been on eBay I've probably seen 8-10 changes to the Community boards format.  This has to be the worst yet.   I feel like a fog has descended to prevent me from gathering information about selling on eBay.

@medontmind

I voiced complaints about how the updated Feedback page presents back when that was a thing.  And I had the same complaints about all the wide open space.

While it was said in a way that was not offensive at all, I was basically told that younger people prefer this look.  So I was told I was too old!!!  LOL  Really they weren't rude about it at all.  It was just someone with my tenure just didn't have the same view of all this vast wasted space.

Your suggest may work for those that don't have tired old eyes like mine.  I'd have to get stronger reading glasses if I went to smaller fonts.

I notice it on the M2M board.  The button will show up initially as "helpful" but when I click the helpful button (for a mentor) it then changes to "Kudoed"

Go to a M2M post and click helpful on one of the mentor's post, you will see it happen.  I am not finding that happening on any other boards...yet...

Addendum...IDK...I like the Kudoed thing  😁  It's cute...silly... I know...

Seeing issues with the new Community platform?

I'm just replying at the end of the thread since it took me so long to get here I'm not going back to respond to the original poster.  I'm really too annoyed.

Many of these issues are the very same issues that came up the last time the boards were "improved".    Most were finally fixed --- I guess just in time to be messed with again.
