Community structure revamp - coming the week of 05/23

Update as of 05/19

Thank you for the feedback on the Community boards. I wanted to give a heads up that next week the Community Structure will change. It'll be a lot easier to find the boards and they'll be very similar to screenshots I shared in this post.

We'll be cleaning up Groups later on this summer. As there are over 300 groups and some haven't had activity in a very long time or no activity at all.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello Community!

When I first joined the team there were two major projects I wanted to address.

The first was the overall look and feel of the Community: it was dated, difficult to administrate, and bloated with custom code created by a third party (not Khoros) that broke often, requiring further customization to correct these problems.

The second was the structure and organization of the boards themselves: they’re overgrown and cluttered. It’s difficult to know which boards to use for what purpose. Certain board formats no longer receive support or updates from Khoros. Other areas of the Community used to be active but have declined in participation and feel empty.

We addressed the first project with the new format roll out last month. We ended our dependence on third party code, and reached parity across all 14 eBay Community sites to ensure a consistent look and feel no matter which of eBay’s Community Forums you visit.

There are still a host of improvements, enhancements and technical issues being worked on by Khoros with regards to the new format. These are in process and moving along. In the meantime we've decided to move forward with the second project: the structure of the community.

The new structure is based on your input and comments from the Community survey sent out last year. We're working to ensure that the structure makes sense to those who are brand new to the Community and that it’s clear what topics are intended on different boards.

Some of the largest changes are:

  • Eliminating ‘nested’ drop downs as much as possible
  • Eliminating the current Knowledge Base drop down completely - boards will be retired
  • Changing some category and board names for clarity
  • Addition of an off-topic area to house Community Connection threads, reducing number of pinned posts on Selling

I’ve included some screenshots of the new layout below. The structure will be changing in the near future, and I’ll make sure to include a more detailed ‘Where’s the board I’m looking for’ post when this goes live.

Thanks!

Sheila

Thanks you sheila@ebay . I would like to register my displeasure on that decision.  Where are people going to go for help on account problems?

The same place we have had to go for years!  Community - here in OZ we have no reliable support at all.

I sure hope what we have been trying to deal with is not coming here, because I come here to get answers I can't get at home.

The Mentor's program is staying.

You don't just get to join the Mentor's program.  You can apply to become a mentor.  There are qualifications you must have to become part of the program and they will vet you first.  Then they will notify you if you are accepted into the program.

Most account issues will fall under one of the other major categories- selling, buying and shipping.
