Community platform issues on my radar

Update as of 12/28

Hi Community!

I'm guessing since it's a quiet week, that's the reason some of the issues on my radar still have made much movement. I hope I'll have some news to share next week.

Happy Holidays!

Update as of 12/21

Previous summary:

Just a reminder, here are the issues on my radar.

High-priority for me:
1.  Notification bell aren’t showing notifications

2.  When you return to a post, it takes you to the very last post instead of where you left off (VERY, VERY high- priority)

On the list now:

1. Difficult to edit posts. It only works after selecting edit after the 3rd or 4th time
2. The time stamp isn't consistent. Specifically the month and day switches position.

3. YouTube videos showing in only one size in the body of the post

4. Emojis that are too small

Am I missing anything?  If I'm missing anything, please create a brand new post so I can easily track the issue and others can +1. BTW, videos, type of browser and timestamps are extremely helpful. Providing as much as detail as possible helps me help support replicate the issue.

I had to click "start a conversation" to get logged in. Nothing else was working.

If there are other issues you’ve experienced, please open up a new Community post, on the platform feedback board. This makes it easier to follow.

Regarding the notification bell issue, I have never had an experience where the bell didn't notify me if I had a notification pending. However, I have seen that if it tells you of multiple notifications, it collapses all the way back to zero immediately when you view your first notification link. It should probably decrement by 1 for each new notification that you read, similar to the Unread Messages count in your Messages folder.

On a side note, I can't seem to log in to my Mobile format Community at all. (Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G) I click the login link, the screen refreshes, but no login actually occurs. If I type a reply anyway, it lets me do that, then throws it away and takes me back to the thread without posting. I will try messing about with it in more detail later, and open a new post about it if I notice anything interesting.

@a_c_green

it was doing that to me on the pc........and I finally just started clicking sign/agree/sign in/agree 4-5 times and it finally worked.

Since then, I've had to click the agreement and I'm signed in........I have a feeling it's only temporary.....and I'll have to do the multiples again at some point.......

Okay, so here I am back on the desktop again, and in fact I'm still logged in from sometime last night, without needing to re-enter anything after waking up the machine this morning. (It was in Sleep mode, not Off.)

With the smartphone, however, that would not take a login last night despite repeated attempts (meaning that it wouldn't even give me a login page; it would just let me click the anonymous head-and-shoulders icon at upper right, think about it for a second, and then bounce me to the main page, still without a login).

This morning I tried the smartphone again, and it worked this time (automatically; I was not asked for my login), so maybe progress is being made.

I should mention here that I have only ever seen that new acknowledgement screen once, on the desktop, a few days ago when the new Community release had first been seen on the Australian and UK websites, so I went to the UK site to try to log in there. I was able to get into the main UK eBay site, and got the acknowledgement screen on the Community site, but it didn't let me in at that time.

Oh, well, we will probably never know exactly what was going wrong or where, but as long as things are working now, we can move on to more important matters, like solving the next round of problems.

Re: Community platform issues on my radar

I granted application access as instructed, and it worked.  However now that I know granting application access is allowing access to not just my public information but my private information, I want to revoke this application access.  Unfortunately there is yet another eBay glitch that pops up when I click on View to edit Third-party app access.  The error message says "We ran into a problem.  Please try again."  Well, I've been trying again for a few days and it always fails.  This is totally unacceptable, especially since we were NOT told in advance that granting access exposed our PRIVATE info!  Please, at least this time, let us know what you are doing to address this egregious error.

Re: Community platform issues on my radar

Here's another issue for you sheila@ebay that can land at the bottom of the list of importance. When posting a video it gives you the option to select small, medium or large size. That used to work, but it doesn't any more. Everything posts as large size even if I select small or medium. Here's an example with size small selected:

Re: Community platform issues on my radar

I'm still getting the error message "We ran into a problem.  Please try again."  Does this issue have a high priority to be fixed?  I am VERY concerned that ALL my private info can be seen by a company other than eBay.  No information was given in advance that this would happen when I granted the third-party app access so that I could see avatars on the discussion boards.  It appears the only way to protect my private information is to close my accounts and leave eBay entirely.  Please fix this so I don't have to take such an extreme measure.  Is there ANY info on the current status of this known privacy and security technical issue?

I've been looking for your post so I can add it to my list.

Would you mind @wastingtime101 creating a new post for me please? That way others can +1 the issue and it'll be easier for me to find? If possible, could you include a video too? The +1 especially helps me build a case.

Re: Community platform issues on my radar

This isn't of concern to most people but to a small group of us, it is heart rending.   We are a small group of mosaic artists with a group called, "A Mosaic View".    This group was started about fifteen years ago.   Most of us have been friends for all of that time.  We have had issues getting into the group off and on for a few years, but recently we are unable to get into the group at all.   We can't access pictures of past mosaics or helpful topics on how to make them.

Can somebody tell us what is going on?   How can we at least access and recapture some of the most important topics?

This appears to be an example of a group that has been archived by the new process (that completely disappears the threads and in this case, the entire board). However, it appears that it still has active members, who would like to keep using it.

I was able to find the URL for what I think is the correct group, but it can't be accessed by regular members:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/A-Mosaic-View-Society/gp-p/g-1500001040

It looks like the administrator of the group hasn't been active since earlier this year:

Here are some related threads about access to the group:

Re: Community platform issues on my radar

Yes, that is our group.   I don't think the administrator has been interested for awhile.   What can be done for us?  We need our pictures and practical advise from over the years.

Re: Community platform issues on my radar

@littlejimtoys , I don't work for eBay so I can't help you with this.

I tagged some eBay employees who I have talked with recently, about their new archiving procedure, and I looked up some URLs that could be helpful and posted them, to try to help the eBay employees deal with this if they can.

At this point, you will just need to wait until they reply. You  might have to wait until Sheila is available again, as she is out of the office at the moment.
