sheila@ebay- following up on your post on the Selling board.

One of the recommendations was to break up the seller board. Now it's not so simple to just do it, but I'm working on improving the overall Community experience.
I think the problem isn't that the Selling board needs to be split up- it's that the other boards get no traffic, correct?
Look at the Payments board as an example. When MP was first announced all the threads were posted here on Selling. And the eBay team allowed that. At some point- last year, I think- all the Payments discussions started getting moved to the Payments board. Since Payments is a topic that many are invested in right now- the traffic for that topic moved over to the Payments board along with the discussions.
In an effort to bring traffic to other boards- why not have eBay employees from those teams start discussions asking what we want/need out of that section of the site and make sure those eBay teams stay engaged in the discussion? That'll get traffic over there. Then- as changes are implemented- traffic will keep heading over there, even if it's a lesser extent.
Host weekly chats with specific teams- then after the chat have that team participate on the board for their topic- checking in for at least a week (or two) following the chat. Often when topic-specific chats are hosted we're left with questions that didn't necessarily get a full answer in the chat- or we have follow ups- and because it's only an hour, we're left hanging in the end. Because the chat is at a designated time it's not possible for a lot of people to make it. Get those teams over to the topic board to participate every other day for a couple of weeks after the chat. You'll drive traffic and give us a chance to get much-needed answers on questions we have.

Mobile App boards-
Is there a way to merge them and force a poster to select an Android or iOS label before posting? Then that label gets added to the beginning of their subject line so it's crystal clear to anybody browsing the topic list which discussions are about iOS and which are Android?
And when are we going to get the "request total" button on the app's cart? eBay has been saying for years that they'll add it because it's the most requested feature! Sorry- couldn't resist throwing that question in there. 😁

This is what I posted on the other thread.
sheila@ebay wrote:@mr_lincoln wrote:sheila@ebay wrote:@golfingaddict wrote:Between the chit chat and this post and the podcast stuff, it looks like the selling board is kindergarten.
Really, do we need an entire thread with a big yellow box quote from some seller without their user ID ?
And to make it worse, it seems that 5-6 new posts a day get shut down and moved because they are posted on the wrong board.
Obviously, the seller board is where people come to ask questions about .. oh.. I don't know.. SELLING and I find myself needing to sift through the moved posts and the tacked posts to see the substance. Waste of time. I want substance and information and I want to help, not trade recipes or read some quote from someone that I can't even verify that sells on ebay (or has any history or experience selling on ebay)
Did you ever ask the people that post of this board what they want? (Other than chit chat recipes?)
@golfingaddict I do realize that there are a lot of improvements needed on the boards. While I do want community members to engage on selling topics, I also wanted to add some fun to the boards as well. Give me some time, I'll make the boards a better place.
sheila@ebay I know a lot of this is off topic, so I apologize for that but as I look at the boards there just seem to be too many choices (pic below when clicking the Discussion tab). A few years ago I took the time to visit the UK Community to read and post AND I did the same in PayPal's community. Both of them are a bit more streamlined then what we have here. Granted, we may have more active members but it doesn't follow that we need to have way more boards. I read on a thread today that a poster should go to the Managed Payments board ... well, if you click all the tabs on this page there is not one board that is specifically titled Managed Payments ...
That's why I'm here.

Can we respectfully request that before you actually break up the selling board that we have some impute on the subject. Along with big changes comes some confusion and issues that might not be so obvious. And once implemented it can be problematic to reverse.
For example the take away of the Thread titles on Each post. That was taken away without any impute of the community. It has caused all kinds of issues and is difficult at best for many of us. That change is slated to be reversed because of the issues, but as you know Khoros has their hands full and haven't gotten around to reversing that just yet and we have been waiting MONTHS.

sheila@ebay I feel like the selling board was already broken up some with the addition of the Q& A selling board.
I think that the last thing we need is MORE boards.

@comics-scifi-collectibles, I just wanted to correct a misunderstanding that you stated.
The "Q&A Selling board" was not "added" any time recently. It used to be part of the Answer Center, which was a separate section of the community from the Discussion Boards. It has been around for more than 20 years, going back to when eBay ran the boards themselves.
Unfortunately, several major changes ago, the Answer Center was changed to the the Knowledge Center (through several iterations, IIRC) and in the process, it was completely destroyed.
It was really unfortunate that this was done, because the Answer Center served a different purpose, equally valuable as the Discussion Boards, and served it well. Unfortunately, it did happen, and I don't believe it can be fixed at this point.
So in the end, I have to agree that the Knowledge Center should be removed, because duplicate boards serves no purpose at this point, and you can't go back in time and prevent the destruction.

@lacemaker3 Thanks I guess I never noticed the selling and buying Q and A boards before until Alan moved them.

@comics-scifi-collectibles, Jeff was before Alan wasn't he? (Sorry, things kind of run together after a while.)
Anyway, as I recall, it was Jeff who started the process in motion ... I think he changed the name to the Knowledge Center, back when he changed the boards to Live World (which has now been changed to Khoros). I think it was the last version of the eBay boards before that, although I might be forgetting another outside company along the way.
I think it was Alan who consolidated the Knowledge Center boards down to the few there are now.

In 2013, Jeff moved the boards from Live World to Lithium, which became part of Khoros.

Thanks, @nobody*s_perfect, I did forget one.
There was a major change in 2011, as well. Do you remember what that one was? I think it was the first big change from Jeff. Maybe that was changing from the eBay-managed boards to Live World?

One of the recommendations was to break up the seller board. Now it's not so simple to just do it, but I'm working on improving the overall Community experience.
I don't understand why breaking it up......... if you take out all the UK/Sri Lanke/payment questions......what's left?
Every question remotely concerning payment/returns/shipping/tech issues are removed to their respective boards even though the question has to do with "selling" as opposed to a general, buyer oriented question.
At one point, Jeff, I think, combined the Stores Board with the Selling board.........which coincided with Ebay totally ignoring stores and continues today with laments about store functions that don't work and haven't worked for years. So a Stores board would simply be a disaster.........used to be a vibrant, how do we figure out this, with permanent links to ebay information on stores and selling, a function that is sadly lacking on any of the boards. IF the payments board had links to some of the information sources.....it would/could forestall many of the endlessly repeated questions...........and frustrations.

I should clear something up. I met with a Community expert at Khoros and she suggested that I break up the seller board into smaller board. I want to make sure I share as much transparency as possible, hence the reason I shared this insight.
I can assure you, before I make any major changes to the Community, there'll be a lot of thought, analysis, asking the Community and planning behind those changes.
I do have a list of guests that have agreed to come to the weekly chat. It'll be coming in the next couple of months or hopefully I can make it happen sooner.
02-01-2021 04:30 PM
I'm sure glad you are going to share those details with us as I'm not so sure that is as good of idea as Khoros feels it is. But it would be interesting to see what you think would improve the board.

Thanks, sheila@ebay. Since it can be difficult to make it to the designated chat hour I hope you'll work on getting the guests to participate on their dedicated board for a week or two following the chat. It would also be nice to get a heads up of guests so we can rearrange our schedules if we want to participate in the chat topic. Maybe post a monthly chat topics schedule pinned to the top of the chat board?

The "Selling" board is already broken up into boards on shipping & returns, technical issues, "my account," tools & apps, etc. No one wants to use those other boards--they want to post everything on "Selling." What's the point of breaking it up if people will just continue to post on "Selling?"
Or did she recommend getting rid of the "Selling" board altogether?
