tax

Ebay never fails to amaze me how they will do anything to profit from the sellers. We pay outrageous fees and buyers pay outrageous fees, particularly if they are international buyers. Now ebay wants us on their behalf to complain to the government about the taxes. Seriously, spare me. We should all be willing to pay what we owe (INCLUDING EBAY) and not whine about it. Taxes are there for a reason but if there is something to raise a stink about, it's ebay fees period. Ebay was a great place 15 to 20 years ago but it has really turned into a place that buyers and sellers are drifting from and even if it manages on staying around, it won't be a place well liked. Send those complaints in to ebay not your government.

Re: tax

These fees will be ON TOP of whatever 'other' increase may have been coming.

I am helping by telling people what will happen if they don't try and help.

Re: tax

Those "fees" you speak of, are already figured in. Even if the 1099 requirement were raised, those fees are NOT getting lowered. It makes zero difference at this point. eBay is simply asking sellers to do their bidding to save them a few bucks. You however, will get NOTHING in return.

The only people who would help eBay are the sellers who have been committing tax fraud. But those people left when they realized they now would have no choice but to report sales. People like me who do things proper and right, aren't going to lift a finger to help eBay.

eBay has had the opportunity for YEARS to "fix" stuff here to help sellers. They sure have not lifted a finger to help us, except for the middle finger they give sellers, with regularity.

Re: tax

Call me naive but no, I think this is strictly getting ebay sellers to do what they don't want to do and they play on sellers who came to ebay in hopes of earning a tax free dollar and everyone is **bleep**ing. If everyone made as much of a stink about the 12.5% interest fee to sell an item and then the measly  .30 fee that I was told was some sort of third party involvement that was never quite clear to me other then I was being jerked off and never getting any pleasure and then of course the shipping and handling that your hoping you have just right? Ebay wants you to offer that for free though and the occassionally message of "HEY HOW ABOUT YOU LOWER YOUR PRICES MORE" I am like hey"WHY DON"T YOU LET ME RUN MY ADS FREE??? Let's be real and look at what the real damage is here. This isn't about your poor tax dollars which for most ebayers isn't a lot really. It is that 12.5% interest you should be screaming about because it's going up again as soon as they feel they can get away with it.

You seem to not get it here? It is exactly about paying taxes. They would prefer that there not be any dollar figure that generates a 1099.  Why does that seem to make a difference whether it's the $600.00 that it is now or probably the 10,000 they would like? Come on get real here. You must work for ebay if you don't see through this request.

What are you talking about????  Ebay had NOTHING to do with the minimum threshold for the IRS form 1099K.  It was Congress that made this change.

I think Ebay needs to open up two separate boards. One for 'paying new taxes', and one for 'paying fees on buyers sale tax is not legal'. That would unclutter the Sellers board a lot.

We all will have to be patient on this one.  It is going to get a whole lots worse before it gets better.  Even though this was changes a couple of years ago some people are just realizing it, so it is new for them.  It is likely we will see these new threads now until after April 15th, 2023.

You might consider doing some homework.  Some sites charge less and some sites charge more.  Most sites that charge less are likely to have lower sales for you too.  So sometimes as a seller you need to decide if the fees are the most important thing to you or sales.

Ebay does not charge any seller "interest".  They charge a FVF [final value fee] plus a 30 cent per transaction fee.  In most categories, if a seller does not have a store that FVF is 12.9%.

When PayPal was our money processor we paid them 2.9% plus a 30 cent per transaction fee.  And then we paid a 10% FVF to Ebay.  Now we pay 12.9% directly to Ebay plus the 30 cent per transaction fee.

Not sure where these outrageous fees are coming from.  They appear to be about the same the last few years.

The fees we pay for the use of this site has NOTHING to do with a 1099K.  Absolutely nothing.  IDK why the two different subjects are being discussed as if they were the same thing.  And FYI, the fees you pay to Ebay are a cost of doing business, so it is an amount you DEDUCT from your income [along with other costs] BEFORE you pay taxes on the money.

Re: tax

I think we all get it. There are those who know that paying taxes is a necessary evil. Then there are those who will continue to whine about it and swear ebay is a yard sale and that is why they should not pay taxes. GOT IT!

"It is likely we will see these new threads now until after April 15th, 2023."

I predict that, starting on February 1, 2023, at least 50% of new threads in this board will be full of exclamation points and shrieks about the illegality of the 1099-K Form and the unfairness of it all.

"Unfairness" will be one of the nicest words that will be used.

There is no need for predictions.  The sellers will come because they get surprised and they will be scared because they did not stay in the loop or read the many emails Ebay has sent on this subject.  We just need to be patient with them as for many this is a very scary thing.  We should respect that.

All that uproar is typically when someone doesn't understand what is going and and just needs to blame anyone they can other than themselves.  We see that all the time on the threads.  Sellers calling Ebay every name under the sun and it usually amounts to something the seller simply was unaware of.
