eBay fees

So now eBay raised their final value fee to 12.9% (+.30!) for most categories. Okay, everything is going up, BUT charging their fee on the state sales tax they now tack on is a little much. I have nothing to do with that, and I don't appreciate eBay making more money from me by doing that. Is there a lawyer out there reading this that will start a class action suit against eBay? It's gotta be illegal. (or at least really greedy) WAKE UP EBAY.

Your company had to raise it's prices to the consumers to pay for it.

You should talk to a small business owner, VISA, Master Card, AMEX & all others charge their processing fee based on the cost of the goods plus shipping plus tax. Ebay managed payment is within its rights to charge based on the total aggregate which would include collected sales tax.

Poshmark and Mercari charge 20% fees.  Poshmark also charges customers for shipping fees on top of 20%.  Look around, ebay is the cheapest place to sell.  I might dislike what ebay does.  But I have tried the alternatives.  Its your choice, do the math and try the alternatives.  Best luck on your selling journey...

I agree. about 1.9% of that 12.9% is actually payment/receiving fee from payment company and about 11% is final value fee. I could understand 1.9% fee on tax, but not the full 12.9% final value fee. That is unethical

Gossip with no facts to support it.  I can't even count how many times members have called eBay greedy and the threads are still here.  When Ebay started rolling out MP site wide, it was a very common theme.  As are the complaints against Ebay.

Before MP Ebay did NOT charge their FVF on sales tax.  This only started after they started rolling out MP site wide.  

It started in August of 2020 and ONLY applied to those that were in MP.  For those still using PP, Ebay did NOT charge a FVF on the sales tax.

Yes back in 2011 we started having a FVF on shipping the seller charged to the buyer.

I firmly believe that the cost of all this should come from the States that have them collecting the sales tax on all of us.  That IMHO would be appropriate, and most if not all ALREADY do that.

Not a fair comparison.  Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, etc charged at or under 3%.  Ebay is now at 12.9% for those without a store in most categories.  Ebay does NOT just charge the Money Processing fee on the sales tax. they charge the FULL FVF that is charged on the product and shipping.  Ebay is about 10% HIGHER than any of the businesses you stated.  That is well beyond a HUGE difference.

I'm unsure where you got 1.9% as PayPal use to charge us 2.9% which is what most sellers were very use to for quite a while.

Please show us all where a court or ruling has been made which states that ebay is in legaly rights to charge us sellers a fee on the sales tax?

ALSO

Ebay is not offering any of us a service by taking a tax from the buyer. This tax is required and so they must , according to the new laws, HAVE TOO charge a tax. Regardless of what you think is a service, it isnt. None of us hired ebay to do our taxes.

Shipping, yes since 2011

Sales Tax, started July 2020 "Simplified Fees" for those in Managed Payments at that time.

Prior to MP only PayPal charged fees on Sales Tax.

Not a fair comparison. Ebay was already charging 12.5% FVF. The amount they are getting from the tax portion is well below the 3% your quoted from Visa, Mastercard, Paypal, etc.

Maybe you didnt read it correctly or maybe it's because I didn't spell it correctly. 

I'll make the statement again in a different way..

Please show me, where any court on the planet has made a ruling which allows eBay to charge a fee on taxes? 

I ask this because it seems people keep saying it's not illegal. If it's not illegal then surely there must be a court case which allows eBay and others to charge fees ( make money off taxes) on taxes.

Now of you re worded this to pose a question to me and have me prove that there is a law Wich has already stated it's illegal to make money off taxes.. please refer to the racketeering laws. These fees are called "sellers fees* or "final value fees". Since a shipping charge and a tx charge to the buyer is nothing a sleep actually sold but rather a tax or a tariff or a expense to get that item sold, it should NOT be charged a fee. The only thing that should be charged a fee is the item itself. Now if eBay wants to charge a fee for the taxes they collect them it should be categorized as a specific fee for a tax and not for any sort of services rendered. Charging a fee Ina. Crid card transaction is understood and spelled out clearly in your cards contacts as a few for transactions using the card. eBay does NOT stipulate that the fees for taxes is a fee for transactions in any way shape or form. 

Maybe I still haven't made myself clear on this, these are 

M opinions and I'm not aawyer nor am I givingegal advice. However what I'd like to state is, these fees are just wrong. That's my opinion. You have yours. I have mine. Bye
