One of my sold out items was still listed on my active items list. The quantity was shown as 0. But someone bought one of these items. I thought if the quantity shows as 0, no one can purchase the item. What do I do now? If I don't ship the item, eBay can give me a bad mark. Everyone knows that no humans, only robots, work at eBay. And you cannot reason with them. They will automatically assume I refuse to ship the item, and give me a bad mark.

You can cancel the second order giving the reason of being Out Of Stock, because that is the only reason you can use truthfully. You will get a defect for being Out of Stock. It is your responsiblity to ensure your sold listings don't auto relist.

Normally buyers do not see out of stock items. Was this the cookbook? After you sold 2 on Nov. 3 it shows that you still had 1 left which sold today.

One thing to watch out for is relisting from eBay records when additional stock is received. It's been reported that this process will post the Original qty on hand, not the New QOH that you entered/edited when you relisted the item. This can lead to a New QOH of 15 being relisted as the Original QOH of 16, giving you one extra sale for inventory that never existed, except in eBay's computer code.
One solution, the one I chose years ago, is to use a 3rd party inventory/listing/sales manager application to keep track of your inventory, your listings, your sales, your customers, your data history. If you don't need to use the buggy eBay process, you shouldn't have the buggy eBay issues, like changing QOH when relisting.

If the quantity is "0" it is IMPOSSIBLE to purchase the item.
You can blame this on ebay all you want, but chances are you just made a mistake.
Nothing wrong with that. We all make them.

Can confirm this. Ebay can be rather funky with quantity items and relisting. Anytime I have anything greater than qty. 1 and I relist, I always (ALWAYS) double-check the listing after it's live. Just another step in the seller's to-do list.

Ebay would never make a mistake especially a 3 day suspension?????

It's not ideal, but if you want to save yourself the defect and make a customer happy, you could find another copy of the the book elsewhere. If it's comparable in price, have it sent to the customer. Just explain to them briefly what happened and that it may take a few extra days to arrive.
That doesn't address the relisting issue, of course.

If its the Lithuania cookbook it shows you sold 2 on November 3rd with a quantity of 1 left.
That 1 sold on January 9th....the date of your post

@kauvil-us do u have the OOS items activated for all your listings? if u do, once the listing goes to zero, it becomes invisible to buyers.
If you discover this is an eBay glitch, and not bc of your own mistake, you can explain the situation to your buyer and maybe offer them a discount coupon for a future purchase. ask them if they want to cancel the transaction based on the info you gave them. if they agree, you can then pick 'buyer request' for the cancellation.
i realize this is a work around for the OOS item, but it is justified if the item 'truly' did show zero, thereby proving an ebay glitch. If this is true, you may want to contact ebay about it>

From reading the replies from those who researched your problem, sorry to say you had one left and did not realize it. Once the buyer purchased it went to zero.

The OP, @kauvil-us , had 2 listings for this item. The one that was sold on Jan 9 was a duplicate, of the earlier listing that was ended early, after the last sale, on Nov 3 2022.
The one that had multiple sales with the last sale on Nov 3 was this one. It was ended early by the seller (with quantity=1 remaining) on November 3, after the last two sales.
Item #: | 143170889090 |
Start Time: | 13-Mar-19 19:47:37 PST |
Sale Times: | 03-Nov-22 02:57:18 PDT |
03-Nov-22 07:17:28 PDT | |
End Time: | 03-Nov-22 10:12:43 PDT (ended early by seller) |
Quantity left: | 1 (when ended) |
Last revised: | 05-30-2022 18:15:12 PDT (quantity) |
The second one that only had one sale on Jan 9 was this one. Somehow, this listing was relisted on December 3. It appears to be identical to the listing above, down to the item specifics, but that listing does not say that it has been relisted. Could this have been done by mistake, from one of the sold-item records? I don't know.

Sale Time: | 09-Jan-23 17:57:49 PST |
End Time: | 09-Jan-23 09:41:18 PST (ended early by seller) |
Quantity left: | 0 (when ended) |

Ran out of time to edit my last post, sorry.
I made a mistake converting the ending time in the last table. It should be like this:
Item #: | 144839190418 |
Start Time: | 03-Dec-22 16:35:10 PST |
Sale Time: | 09-Jan-23 17:57:49 PST |
End Time: | 09-Jan-23 18:41:18 PST (ended early by seller) |
Quantity left: | 0 (when ended) |
Last revised: | no revisions |
This does prove that the OOS option must have been turned on, because the listing was ended early, with a quantity of zero, almost an hour after the sale on Jan 9, 2023.
The previous listing had been ended early with a quantity of 1 on Nov 3, 2022. Maybe the positive quantity has something to do with it being relisted? Maybe it stayed in unsold because of this, and got relisted by miatake?
