Are you ripping off buyers by cancelling their orders? Fees only went up 5 cents on a dollar.

This reminds me of the guy who wanted to know if we were "jumping over to Mercari", as if no one sold anywhere else but here - most people sell in multiple places already, including FB and Craigslist.  So, what's the news, then?

And we're no longer paying Paypal fees.  If I recall correctly, someone calculated that their average sale put a few cents more in their pocket on Managed Payments than through Paypal.

Well, at least you would get out of the attic and catch some sun rays once in a while. Who knows, you might even meet another attic dweller!

Re: Why use Ebay when facebook is Free >?

I only use facebook for buying. Never listed there. Prices on there are way too cheap in my area to be worth selling on.

I have always used cl to sell certain items like my items to big to ship economically like lawn mowers, strollers, car body parts, etc.  I have most people come to me and they are less likely to walk away without buying the item because they are the ones wasting time not me. I always have something to do here cutting up scrap to shop work, building cars doing listings, yard work etc. I am not just sitting staring out the window waiting for them to show up . If they are late or never show up, no skin off my nose, sometimes I forget I have people showing up until I get the text saying they are here or pulling in. .

Very  few occasions I will meet someone someplace else but I do live pretty far away from towns so I have given in a few times but always incorporate it into a shopping trip, scrap pickup trip or like a trip to look at something for sale that I am interested in so it isn't a wasted trip for me. They are the ones that tend to try to beat you up over the price thinking you have wasted your time to meet them but it isn't the only reason why I am there so my cl prices are usually  pretty firm.  I even met someone at the clinic parking lot once when the wife was having tests done so I had to be there anyways.

New ebay fees? Don't know about them, didn't seem to make to big of a difference on my items to notice.  Someone mentioned listing fee cancellations above but that isn't a new rule. it has been around over 10 years already about you get to cancel one listing in a 12 month period for free but if you try canceling more than 1 in that 12 month period then you get charged. Unless this  ruling got modified recently, I don't know about it but it doesn't phase me at all because I have never cancelled a live auction  listing in my life here and I have been around since 1997 and have 5 accounts at the present time. .

Oh, is that the fee we are talking about? Manage payment versus Paypal?

Then I agree with the person above, my fees went done a little. Yes  ebay fees you pay have went up but after you minus your paypal fees you don't have anymore, I am money ahead.

So many people for some reason cannot see the whole picture and figure on the total amount, instead they only want to focus on fees from one business at a time.  But you know what?, I see that in other places/businesss around me.  They can only figure numbers right in front of them but cannot seem to figure in other numbers that would change their percentages.  They get tunnel vision and don't look at the whole picture correctly. I can see why some business's fail around me, they don't add in hidden fees that isn't clearly black and white in front of them.

then you take the ones that do seem to look at the whole picture but then cannot decipher it down individually to see if they are wasting money someplace that could be eliminated to raise their profits.

then you get some people that only figure in what they paid for the item and what they sell it for but don't realize they can have more money in their pocket by downsizing their hidden expenses. Anyways I am getting into other fields so i will shut up.

Happy ebaying everyone. Hope sellers make a bankroll and the buyers get some deals too

Facebook is honestly like walking into a dumpster fire of broke people that watched too many episodes of Fast and Loud and think that's how you negotiate a deal. The sad part is the follow thru is non existent as they show up with an old broken PS2 and $200 in bra money looking to trade for a set of STI wheels. This was never part of the deal, but they're going to tell you it was.

No, people want stuff for even less on Facebook.  Plus, ebay get my items in front of millions of potential customers around the world.

I'm sure once fb gets enough people using it without charge they will formalize and enact fees.

"How is FB Mktplace free? Are you listing and not telling FB it sold? When I sell there it is not free???"

Out of all the stuff I have sold locally on FB, there was never any fees. Just use the local trash-and-treasure or collector/trade/swap related groups, they function much like Craig's List.

I find the total take-out is about the same with Managed Payments as it was with PayPal, sometimes a little less,  if that's what you're talking about.

There aren't any other "new eBay policies" that affect what I sell, although that may not be true of others.

I don't use FB, CL, or the local newspaper's classified ads because (a) I need the global reach of eBay and (b) I do not particulary want face-to-face contact with random strangers these days.

Of course, all the different venues can work well for individual sellers, depending upon what they sell and where they are.

Nope.

My inventory needs to be seen by interested buyers.

Neither CL nor FB gives me that right now.

I'm sure it works for some; just not me.

When I sell there it is not free???

@katzrul15

That is because you (perhaps inadvertently) signed up for their "pay to play" program, where you pay fees.  That is done by stating or selecting "will ship" or "offer shipping"  and then you are IN the pay program (apparently for life).  You get the BUY button, and they start to 'manage' your money.

The 'advantage' is your listings are displayed in a larger radius of your location.  But for those buyers that know how to search 'all of facebook' it is not really a problem.  Buy/sell groups also have an international reach anyway.

I offer shipping, with the info in the first line of every post, but no BUY button.  The only expense is perhaps that involving a PayPal invoice, or less if my website's merchant services are used.
