Why can't I conntact eBay

I made a $910.00 sale on eBay in May of 2021.   In June of 2021 eBay sent me notice that the buyer had opened a dispute saying they did not recognize the transaction.    eBay asked for evidence.   The only thing that I was able to enter was a tracking number that shows the package was delivered to that address.   There was no where for me to discuss or communicate with eBay about this matter.   On August 4th eBay closed the dispute in favor of the buyer and charged me a $20.00 dispute fee. In the end I lost $930.00 and I can not even talk to eBay about what happened. Does anyone have any advice or how I can contact eBay

Thank You

Whatever the case ebay will not help even if you can contact them.

Chargebacks with managed payments mean that seller always looses no matter what.

Managed payments give sellers 0 protections while opening the door for several more scams that weren't as common with paypal.

You'll hear lots of people on here praise managed payments, until what happens to you happens to them.

Due to the poor job Ebay has always done at protecting sellers, there's a saying that goes something like "never sell something on ebay that you're not comfortable giving away for free"

Did you get signature confirmation?  If so..........

Appeal the case..........you should be covered under Seller protection since you mailed to the address ebay gave you and tracking shows delivered........

Did you have Signature Confirmation on the item? eBay requires it for items over $750

Re: Why can't I conntact eBay

It's an uphill battle almost any time the buyer makes a claim. They can say not as described, didn't receive, didn't do transaction, etc. and the seller has to go into battle.  Having said that, the best we can do is put on all the armor we can all the time in our transactions  realizing there are so many crooks out there.  Some things are almost impossible to defend such as the buyer shipping something back to you in an empty box or trash, etc.  Ebay isn't interested in photos, video, etc. because that, too, can be altered.  What happened to you is theft. I would open a police report against the buyer or small claims court. Most people don't want to deal with that.  On Ebay the best we sellers can do is be professional and watch our backs.  Offer free returns and the minute the buyer complains ask them to ship back at your expense. On a high-dollar sale, send a message to buyer BEFORE you ship. Thanking him for purchase, letting him know you are shipping, etc. Sort of gives them the heads up and documents his involvement. Always have tracking. Ask for signature on any high-dollar item.  Doing all the steps helps, but doesn't make us bulletproof.  Sorry, you were scammed.

As others have suggested, you needed to have SIGNATURE confirmation for this order.  If you do, then there are steps you can take to recover your funds.   Was there a place on the PAYMENT DISPUTE form to upload the signature?   Sometimes there is, sometimes not.

Did you by chance contact the "buyer" in this instance and send them a screenshot of what they purchased?  If the chargeback was made due to "really" not knowing what their debit was for, that sometimes helps to refresh their memory.  What appears on a c.card statement is usually not very descriptive, nor is the resulting line item  when you use PayPal through checkout as a buyer.

Typically, this "doesn't recognize the charge" dispute is one of the easiest for the seller to win.  Of late, however,  there are instances where they are not.  If your loss was NOT the result have having no signature, then there is some hope for your case.

Some things to observe:

Is your buyer still a registered user?

Was this shipped to a freight forwarder address?
What is the registration country of your buyer?

Re: Why can't I conntact eBay

When you sell (or buy) on Ebay, you assume the risk of being defrauded. To minimize the risk of loss, our firm always takes dozens of precautions. To follow are but a few of them:

Before we ship any order, we Google the buyer's name and address to verify the validity of both.

We ship via Priority Mail with Signature Confirmation.

We make an HD video recording to verify contents whenever a package is opened or sealed.

We email buyers immediately after purchase to encourage a reply, which will evidence the fact that they knowingly ordered.

We use large boxes, which thieves find harder to conceal than smaller boxes.

We print "DO NOT FORWARD" by each of the addressee's and sender's addresses.

We carry legal weapons when transporting valuable packages.

We use 17 anti-theft features on every package, such as infrared and ultraviolet markings, ultra-strong security tape, warning labels, special fingerprint-collecting paper, and reinforced boxes.

Re: Why can't I conntact eBay

The thing with payments on eBay is you did not accept the payment.  eBay accepted the payment on your behalf and facilitated your transaction by providing you a buyer, telling you where to send item and forwarding you the payment.

You have no idea who the Credit Card company is and you have no idea if the eBay account that used the Card is authorized to use it.  It is eBay who verified and authorized use of the Credit Card and they should have the security in place to make sure the use of the Card is legitimate.

Since eBay is the one who accepted the fraudulent Credit Card charge, assured you the payment is ok and told you to ship the item, it is eBay who should be fighting the Chargeback for their own behalf as well as your behalf.  It seems as though they did not do this very well in your case.

Why eBay thinks it is ok to charge you $20 to review a fraudulent charge that they authorized is beyond comprehension.

You do have a right to ask for a Arbitration Hearing.  It is a complicated process and I do not know if you could win or not, but it is there if you feel strongly that you have been wrong by eBay.  You need to review the entire process but hear is a couple of highlights.

Hello - to contact eBay, log into your account, click on the Help& Contact ( top of the screen), select your Selling/Buying issue. Depending on your country from here you can find a chatbot/live chat/phone/email/call back options.

Re: Why can't I conntact eBay

The big site (the river) just eliminated the requirement for arbitration in the seller agreement in the last month or two.   I wonder how long it will be before eBay does the same.  The herd of lawyers on that other site must have had a reason for removing the arbitration clause as they certainly didn't do it out of the goodness of their heart or for the good of sellers.  I'm wondering if there is a legal reason that they did it that eBay hasn't figured out yet.

One day a smart group of sellers and lawyers are going to get together go after sites like eBay and the river and name them as an accomplice to theft/fraud.  Both of these sites know full well that "buyers" are defrauding sellers on a massive scale and they do nothing to stop it.  They actually facilitate that fraud and because of that, there will come a time when they are standing in front of a judge trying to explain why they aren't an accomplice to mass scale fraud.

I would file suit jointly against the "buyer," eBay, Adyen, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express in small claims court. You know that eBay was a participant in the theft, but since eBay conceals the name of their co-conspirator, you don't know which credit card company was involved.

You left out one very important piece of information here: did you have Signature Confirmation for this sale?

Re: Why can't I conntact eBay

It happened to me several times after moved to ebay managed payment. You always lose the chargeback case if the sale is over $750. But you can appeal by providing the proof of delivery with signature confirmation to get your money back.
