When did eBay stop taking FVF's immediately from orders

Back in October I was checking my sold items and realized eBay had not been taking FVF's out of the orders as they are bought. My last 5 sold items since Oct 19 have been this way. I contacted eBay and the CS rep said I could be on a special no fees promotion and not to worry as I wouldn't be charged for them.

Today I received a notice that my account on file was to be charged for $xx.xx. When I went to see what the charge was for since I hadn't sold anything the last week, it was for 2 of the items I sold in October that they hadn't taken the fees out of.

Has this happened to anyone else lately. I have 3 more sales that I know the fees were not deducted from. I guess I will be getting another invoice for them soon.

Re: When did eBay stop taking FVF's immediately from orders

I noticed this happening a couple weeks ago to my account.  Ebay wasn't taking FVFs from my sales. Today I wake up and Ebay has my account negative over $2000 for fees they haven't been taking out for the last 2 months.  I got an email today explaining nothing and just telling me they were going to take the money out of my bank account.  I thought it was a fake email, but when I checked my account I was charged 25 pages of FVFs this morning.

devon@ebay  elizabeth@ebay  can you look into this issue please?

Last year there was a similar issue that happened with a promotion for personalized items that ended up being applied incorrectly - when it was discovered, a notice was posted here in the community and sent to affected sellers explaining what happened and that the fees would be recouped.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Items-selling-without-final-value-fees-Personalization/m-p/324...

If something similar is happening here, I think it would also be appropriate to post a notice in the community and communicate directly with sellers.

Hey @valueaddedresource! This is a known sitewide issue that has a ticket open for it to be resolved. If there are any sellers that are running into final value fees not be charged on items they have sold they can reach out to customer support here and let them know that you are running into ALERT14305.

Thanks devon@ebay ! I don't see that in the list of ongoing tech issues, can you get it added please?

Also, an announcement here in the community, on the Payments page in Seller Hub, and/or email to sellers would likely be more effective - as you can see from some of the posts here, sellers didn't realize they weren't being charged for FVF until all of a sudden they received very large charges to their payment methods on file and scrambled to find out what is going on.

A proactive announcement explaining what happened and that eBay is retroactively recouping the fees would probably save all of your support channels a lot of headaches. 🙂

Maybe Ebay is trying to bring up their Cyber Monday sales to fool their investors.  I can't believe CS called this a promotion. This is a horrible thing to do to it's sellers

Re: When did eBay stop taking FVF's immediately from orders

Yeah,    I got hit to overnight.    Page after page of FVFs and promo fees and International

fees that ebay hadn't been taking out.    So this AM instead of getting a $200.00 payout like I expected

I end up owing about that much.

I had noticed that they weren't taking the fees so I guess I expected to get hit.

What a hassle.    Nice job ebay!

Re: When did eBay stop taking FVF's immediately from orders

Same here, I got hit with 32 pages of 30 items per page of after the fact fees. When you click on them There is only an item number and no explanation. Most of my listings are variation listing with up to 250 cards per listing and I might have 40 sales a month per listing so I have no way to check what order the fees came from.

I get weekly payouts and normally Tues morning my account balance is zero. In the past  I would purchase labels and ebay would put my account in the negative and I could print the label. Now because of this mess my account is already in the negative and they are charging my bank account for all the label I print one at a time. What a mess!!!!

I just received one of these notices for a individual sale from 10 days ago.  If this is going to be the new way to do business I need to change my bookkeeping method.

Re: When did eBay stop taking FVF's immediately from orders

For the only one I had (so it's easy for me to see), it charged the FVF for each of the 6 items in the order and then a .30 transaction fee as normal, except they charged it all last night instead of on the 16th.

Re: When did eBay stop taking FVF's immediately from orders

This shouldn't have happened for such a long period. Any seller to have closed out in this time period essentially won the day. They can't be charged if no longer active on ebay.

ebay so poor at managing their own company that this was overlooked, then corrected without proper explanation or warning to us sellers. We spent wasted time on support over this without clear answers.

Even from the payout page it is difficult to determine exact date it started.  To even announce it to us, and give option to split the corrected payment back in increments been helpful.

Instead now at holiday primetime they took all the cash we thought we made. Scrambling to move money to our expense account to cover all other auto payments because of this snafu ebay created on us all effected. Bah humbug.

Hi @steady2304

When a seller switched over from PayPal to Managed Payments … their FV fees were taken from the buyer’s payment instead of immediately upon listing ending.

No fees are taken unless a buyer pays … one of the small benefits MP has over PP.

So like, what was the promotion? What, if anything, was to be gained by this genius marketing?

A lot of time wasted and unnecessary extra work.

Maybe if everyone effected opened a chargeback with their CC company or bank disputing the charge they would get their act together. Regardless of whether it is eBay's error or Adyen's they made the decision to move to managed payments this is one of the things they have to deal with.

This is an amateur accounting mistake certainly not something you expect out of multi-billion dollar company. The first time it happened, apparently about a year ago, is bad enough but to repeat the same mistake a year later. Unforgivable!!!

I for one would not even know where to begin to adjust my bookkeeping to adapt to this and the bottom line is no seller should have to "adapt".

Re: When did eBay stop taking FVF's immediately from orders

Hello,

Same thing has happened to me, except I had another batch of fees coming through this afternoon that look like they may still be older transactions and not today's.  Which, by the way, I can already see today's orders not having FVFs taken out, so it looks like this debacle of getting hit with bulk fees all at once will continue until the issue is fixed.

This greatly hampers my business finances: in order to ensure I'm not getting huge credit card hits with these fees, I'm going to have to switch from receiving daily payouts to keeping incoming sales money "parked" in eBay's system to potentially cover overnight bulk fees coming in.  When the system worked, and FVFs were taken out at the time of purchase, I could safely have my payouts set to daily. Because I'd know after FVF fees, and label purchases, that the money was technically my "net sales money" and could safely withdraw it to my business checking account.

devon@ebay please escalate ALERT14305 so this issue is resolved as quickly as possible, and please provide an update for all of those affected at this extremely crucial time of year.

Regards,

Marco

Re: When did eBay stop taking FVF's immediately from orders

I am a small seller so it takes me very little time to double check eBay's financial calculations but for a large seller moving hundreds/thousands of items a month this is a nightmare. What is especially troublesome is the "glitch" seems to be random which could make it difficult to find and correct as opposed to if it was happening to everyone.

This is just another example of my decreasing faith in eBay's ability to handle the financial activities under managed payments. Had my bank or CC company made this type of error I would probably be protected under federal laws that regulate those industries. Had I not been I would have made a decision on whether to switch banks or CC companies depending on how they handled the situation.

This is eBay's mistake and they should fix the problem and absorb the cost out of their own pockets. There are always a lot of posts about class action lawsuits against eBay most of which are without merit however in this case eBay could possibly be in breach of their contract with the sellers. There have been several class action lawsuits against eBay for breach of contract where eBay has lost.
