--Final Update, October 28--
The category changes announced in our Fall Seller Update have been completed.
Now that all category changes are complete, while you might still see some adjustments to searches, it is okay to update or edit your listings without concerns of losing data or having it moved again.
We appreciate your feedback on this roll-out. We'll continue to adjust the process based on the input we’ve received here, and we'll take all of these suggestions into consideration for future updates.
As this project is now complete the post is being locked from further comments.
Resources and observations
We’ve heard from you that updating your Item Specifics in time for the February 2022 requirement date may be a challenge.
A useful tool that may help is located in the Seller Hub under Listing>Active. There is a drop-down box labeled ‘Download’ which will generate an Excel document for ‘Missing Required or Recommended Item Specifics’. You can read more about this tool here.
Should you come across any inaccuracies within the new Item Specifics we ask that you report those directly to sdsupport@ebay.com so our team can investigate. Outside of that, please share suggestions as to changes you'd like to see going forward here, selecting the Categories and Item Specifics option.
---Update as of October 19th---
We apologize for this delayed update. Thank you for your patience while our teams worked to finalize category changes.
All listings have been moved to their final destination categories. You may now proceed with checking your categories, revising items, and updating item specifics where needed.
Some item specifics have been renamed, and the value you originally provided has been copied over to the new item specific, so you don’t need to re-add these item specifics. We encourage you to update your listings with item specifics that are showing as “Required Soon.” These will become required on February 22, 2022.
All other item specifics are either Recommended or Optional. Learn more about item specifics.
Some categories were retired and replaced by product-based categories. You and your buyers can still find the items you’re looking for. Simply browse to the product category of your choice and use the filters to refine your search.

---Update as of October 14th---
The work continues on this move and is progressing according to plan. We are on track and anticipate all category changes for your listings to be complete by end of day tomorrow (10.15). Thank you for your patience while our teams implement these changes.
---Update as of October 13th---
We continue to work through this change and thank you for your patience as our teams work through it. We wanted to provide answers to some top concerns and questions:
Why are Gallery Plus fees being charged for items that were previously free?
We determined that a technical issue impacted a small number of listings, which resulted in incorrect charges (including Gallery Plus, subtitles, and insertion fees) for some sellers. The issue has been fixed and we will be crediting impacted sellers as quickly as possible. No calls to Customer Service are necessary as credits will be issued automatically.
The eBay Standard Envelope shipping option is grayed out and I can’t select it. When will the issue be resolved?
The eBay Standard Envelope shipping option issue resulted from the category changes update and has been resolved. eBay Standard Envelope is now available in applicable categories if your item meets the established criteria.
Should I edit my listings if they’re in the wrong category, have been moved to another category, or have wrong or missing item specifics?
No. Recent category changes require updates to many thousands of servers and data changes to nearly every aspect of our platform. This level of adjustment takes time, which is why we asked for your patience while the process runs. We expect most data updates to be completed within 48 hours, but can they take up to a week (i.e., through Oct. 19). After that, if you have an item specific in mind that you think would work well for your listing, please consider adding it as a custom item specific.
Why isn’t my item coming up in search?
The category change update is still in process. We anticipate search issues will resolve when we complete most data updates during the next 24-48 hours.
There are more item specifics now than ever before. Do I need to fill in all of them?
No. Item specifics that you have already filled in will be maintained as the category moves are completed during the next week. In addition, new soon-to-be-required item specifics are being added and will become required by Feb 22, 2022. As always, the more item specifics you fill out, the better visibility your listing has to buyers.
For Parts & Accessories, when will fitment/compatibility charts start working again?
There was an issue with parts compatibility not working properly as the category changes rolled out that has been resolved. You should now be able to see the options to add fitment compatibility when editing your listings.

Why would l bother with any item specifics knowing Ebay will just undo all this in another update?
My 2400 listings represent 100's of hours of labor.
Ebay just undid ALL of that effort. I'll never get back that value.
I'll say it again. This is sociopaths expressing love.

Done! Thanks for the suggestion!

How will these changes affect our store subscriptions for additional listings in select categories? I sell only in collectables (glass) and get 250 free listings with my store subscription. Will this continue even though my "select category" is discontinued?
Hey @casprrr! These changes will ultimately not affect your store subscription and the number of free listings you'll get. When category changes are done, your listings should still show up in the larger Collectibles category.

Selling on eBay has become a nightmare. Doesn't eBay realize that the more time we have to spend to go through our listings and correct mistakes that are not even our fault take away time that could be spent in actually listing and selling more products??? Sellers are losing money, and therefore in the long run, eBay will lose money as well. For once, just leave things that work well, alone!

I'm trying really hard not to panic and give ebay time to straighten things out, but why should it work that way to begin with. Sellers are used to disruption and frustration, but buyers aren't going to stick around long waiting for it to work itself out. That's what worries me the most. I'm seeing far more posts from buyers that are alarming--is ebay communicating with them about what is going on?

OK. So am just tooling along here, leisurely reading the comments and replying here and there. All the while assumed my pottery and glass (not referenced under collectibles) are probably OK. Decided to check...WELL THEY ARE NOT OK!!!!! Cups and saucers referenced as plates, plates referenced as cups and saucers. Decanter listed as a bowl. Wine glasses as a bowl. Sugar/creamer now cups and saucers. They were only supposed to meddle with Collectibles??????? Not P&G?
Thank god my 100 listings are mostly vintage clothing but do have more pottery/glass I haven't checked yet as am mad as hell. No wonder nothing selling cause a plate ain't a cup and saucer and Fostoria wine glasses ain't bowls. Frankly, this is worse than the October 2019 debacle, except it was major for my listing program. HOW SOON CAN I GO DIRECT INTO EBAY AND REVISE LISTINGS?

As of this morning, eBay is mapping their new eBay motors category structure on revised and new listings.
Two major problems with this:
- The new categories are NOT active on the site - buyers can't browse to them!
(reference: 33652 , Car & Truck Sunroofs, Hard Tops & Soft Tops, has been mapped to a new category 262173, Roofs, Tops & Sunroofs -- but this category is not visible to buyers despite being the only place to list items under it as the 33652 ALSO no longer works)
- Another example is 6763, Other Parts, has been mapped to 9886. Not visible
- The return policy feature is NOT turned on for most or all of the new categories, so listing under one of them does not include the seller's return policy.
Why is the production environment the same as beta here at eBay?
Hi @partsaholic! You can refer to Jasmen's post here for more on the updates going on, and I'll add, that the buyer's side of the process will kick off after these changes have processed. We appreciate your patience in the meantime!

Thanks so much for replying to other posts. What about all the others? When can I go in and revise my pottery and glass listings that have been dumped into incorrect subcats? No wonder no sales: a cup and saucer is not a plate as an example.

Just how is it going to be easier for buyers to find my pottery dinner plates now that eBay has moved those plates into the Vases category?
Questions: Will those plates be moved into a proper category after a week? Or will they stay in Vases?
Hi @tealt! This is all influx right now, so we ask that you bear with us for the next few days as we change listings from concept based categories to product based. Your dinner plates should not end up with vases indefinitely though. There should ultimately be a Pottery & Glass > Cookware, Dinnerware & Serveware category and my guess is that is where your dinner plates will end up given the product type.

Now that our listings have been changed to a new category, does that mean that our items specifics will be gone and have to be entered all over again? For us sellers with thousands of listings this will take hundreds of hours. We already had to go through this a couple of times and to do it again is just too much. We should spend out time listing new items, not having to fix the problems that ebay creates.
No @dakotatreasurehunter, your item specifics should copy over once the category changes finish in the next few days. There will also be new, soon to be required, item specifics that you can keep an eye out for.

I sell postcards and am now seeing $1 gallery fees on a number of my cards (I presume these are ones that renewed today.)
Is this going to continue to happen? I'm not paying a $1 fee for a $6 postcard, just nope.
10-13-2021 10:11 AM
Don't worry, if you have 20k items listed it "should copy over", if not I'm sure the the tech team that designed this will have a back up plan to put in place within the next year or so.

No, the way the data tree goes right now is pottery--serverware-- THEN there is another tree limb that describes the item. My Plate follows the flow then it says cups and saucers? So are you saying that last level will eventually left blank? There are 3 levels, not 2.

Thank you for your reply.
However, I am concerned that a buyer looking for my plates by Japanese maker Kato Kogei (which is not exactly a major name is Japanese ceramics) will be unable to navigate a labyrinth of items specifics in Pottery-Glass--Cookware-Dinnerware-Serveware. That "category" will undoubtedly contain at least a hundred thousand makers.
Question:
Will buyers who put a maker's name (e.g. Kato Kogei) into their search term see results that contain Kato Kogei items only?--rather than having to make their way through many, many vertical inches of item specifics to eliminate unwanted items in their results?

Made me laugh. What has to happen is to have the new Blues go to the Archives and read up on what happened in October 2019 and how this "copying over" never happened.
