--Final Update, October 28--
The category changes announced in our Fall Seller Update have been completed.
Now that all category changes are complete, while you might still see some adjustments to searches, it is okay to update or edit your listings without concerns of losing data or having it moved again.
We appreciate your feedback on this roll-out. We'll continue to adjust the process based on the input we’ve received here, and we'll take all of these suggestions into consideration for future updates.
As this project is now complete the post is being locked from further comments.
Resources and observations
We’ve heard from you that updating your Item Specifics in time for the February 2022 requirement date may be a challenge.
A useful tool that may help is located in the Seller Hub under Listing>Active. There is a drop-down box labeled ‘Download’ which will generate an Excel document for ‘Missing Required or Recommended Item Specifics’. You can read more about this tool here.
Should you come across any inaccuracies within the new Item Specifics we ask that you report those directly to sdsupport@ebay.com so our team can investigate. Outside of that, please share suggestions as to changes you'd like to see going forward here, selecting the Categories and Item Specifics option.
---Update as of October 19th---
We apologize for this delayed update. Thank you for your patience while our teams worked to finalize category changes.
All listings have been moved to their final destination categories. You may now proceed with checking your categories, revising items, and updating item specifics where needed.
Some item specifics have been renamed, and the value you originally provided has been copied over to the new item specific, so you don’t need to re-add these item specifics. We encourage you to update your listings with item specifics that are showing as “Required Soon.” These will become required on February 22, 2022.
All other item specifics are either Recommended or Optional. Learn more about item specifics.
Some categories were retired and replaced by product-based categories. You and your buyers can still find the items you’re looking for. Simply browse to the product category of your choice and use the filters to refine your search.

---Update as of October 14th---
The work continues on this move and is progressing according to plan. We are on track and anticipate all category changes for your listings to be complete by end of day tomorrow (10.15). Thank you for your patience while our teams implement these changes.
---Update as of October 13th---
We continue to work through this change and thank you for your patience as our teams work through it. We wanted to provide answers to some top concerns and questions:
Why are Gallery Plus fees being charged for items that were previously free?
We determined that a technical issue impacted a small number of listings, which resulted in incorrect charges (including Gallery Plus, subtitles, and insertion fees) for some sellers. The issue has been fixed and we will be crediting impacted sellers as quickly as possible. No calls to Customer Service are necessary as credits will be issued automatically.
The eBay Standard Envelope shipping option is grayed out and I can’t select it. When will the issue be resolved?
The eBay Standard Envelope shipping option issue resulted from the category changes update and has been resolved. eBay Standard Envelope is now available in applicable categories if your item meets the established criteria.
Should I edit my listings if they’re in the wrong category, have been moved to another category, or have wrong or missing item specifics?
No. Recent category changes require updates to many thousands of servers and data changes to nearly every aspect of our platform. This level of adjustment takes time, which is why we asked for your patience while the process runs. We expect most data updates to be completed within 48 hours, but can they take up to a week (i.e., through Oct. 19). After that, if you have an item specific in mind that you think would work well for your listing, please consider adding it as a custom item specific.
Why isn’t my item coming up in search?
The category change update is still in process. We anticipate search issues will resolve when we complete most data updates during the next 24-48 hours.
There are more item specifics now than ever before. Do I need to fill in all of them?
No. Item specifics that you have already filled in will be maintained as the category moves are completed during the next week. In addition, new soon-to-be-required item specifics are being added and will become required by Feb 22, 2022. As always, the more item specifics you fill out, the better visibility your listing has to buyers.
For Parts & Accessories, when will fitment/compatibility charts start working again?
There was an issue with parts compatibility not working properly as the category changes rolled out that has been resolved. You should now be able to see the options to add fitment compatibility when editing your listings.
-----------------------------------------------------------

They did the same thing to the pottery section, I collect vintage California pottery and that category no longer exists…I’d have to use 50+ keywords daily to replicate that search. I’ve been on eBay since the beginning, this is the WORST and most DISRUPTIVE update I’ve seen. If I can’t find my collectible category items easily, I will no longer be buying as much from your sellers and eBay will lose income. Who is this good for? How do I lodge a complaint?

Yup it horrible!! You can tell they have no idea about collecting and how categories work. I think the writing is on the wall they just don't want us here anymore they just want cheap junk in bulk.

Just found that my goblets are in the BOWLS category. I called eBay - aaaannd wait for it - they are aware & working on it! LOL! My sales are in the pits. I told them I wanted a credit on my account for this major screw up. They wouldn't comment on that either. What IDIOT was in charge of this program? I can't even search for something I want to buy! The magical new search takes me to a Neiman Marcus page when I search for vintage composition dolls!

When they stated while this is taking place you will see "unusual results" I guess what they meant to say was sellers will a drop in sales because because buyers will now have to search by entirely new methods to find ANYTHING!!!! Should we be sending a thank you card for this insanity???? Rhetorical question!!!

PS. Almost 300 replies to a discussion post in 24 hours. Is that some kind of record or sellers frustration?

When they do these changes, they do not bother to check beforehand what other areas would be affected. Therefore, saving anything is now moot. I don't use Drafts since I have my own listing program so having never used it, betcha that area is now also useless.

So, I've begun trying my best to deal with these ridiculous category changes in my listings with emphasis now on trying to cancel my formerly free gallery plus extra photo service on my postcard listings. But as I was revising a 1907 Real Photo Rutland Vermont view card I noticed the HUGE # of so-called "item specifics" that ebay now wants me to deal with on virtually all of my listings. And some of them were absolutely silly like this one (on a US View Postcard from Vermont):
Alfred Pennyworth | All Might | Aquaman |
Archer | Archie | Asterix |
Astro Boy | Batgirl | Batman |
Black Panther |
What in the heck ? "Aquaman" as a character on a Vermont view postcard?
I've really tried my best to roll with ebay's "punches" over the last 23 years but this is by far the most difficult "punch" yet. :-{
When trying to revise some of my postcards ebay's charges did not include the $1.00 Gallery Plus charge so I may leave that alone for a few days. (Gallery Plus really does help sell postcards). So far I've only been charged twice but I'm carefully watching my ebay financials page for further such charges 😕
Too, I actually buy more on ebay than I sell and this change is playing havoc with my buying experience as well.
Sheesh!

This is the worst and most disruptive update I’ve experienced since eBay’s inception. I’m not against change but change should be an improvement and this change to the collectible pottery section, affecting art pottery and dinnerware is NOT HELPFUL to buyers that browse looking for rarities that often bring good income to sellers and eBay. My specialized area is California Pottery produced between 1910 through 1940. I’d have to enter 50-100 keywords daily to find those individual pottery company listings and that still would not cover every possibility. The new structure assumes I search by color, or plate verses vase or by stylistic period. It was easy to enter that search criteria under the old category listings. Bottom line, if I can no longer find an obscure artifact without scrolling through long overcrowded listings, or having to narrow my search criteria to the minutia, I can’t buy from eBay like I’ve been doing for 20+ years. How is that an improvement?

What has to happen is to have more BUYERS complaining to the powers that be. That might get their attention! It sometimes does. Sellers don't matter but buyers do.
10-13-2021 09:15 AM
Uh oh!!!!
More bad news :-}
Ebay is now charging double insertion fees on my items! I sold 2 or 3 items last night and have just now noticed that ebay charged me an additional 15 cents insertion fee for each item that I sold last night IN ADDITION to charging me the original insertion fees a week ago when I first listed the items that sold last night!
Ebay: that's pretty darn low!!!
10-13-2021 09:21 AM
You've done it again!! Outraged most everyone that uses this platform.
10-13-2021 09:24 AM
If you could, post that about the insertion fees on the Tech board.......so that others with the same problem will chime in and it can be reported as a problem..........It may get lost on this thread.......

Sellers, who pay 100% of the operating fees, do NOT matter one iota. I've gotten screwed EVERY SINGLE TIME as a seller over 20+ years.
