Taking fees 12.9% with including sale TAX and shipping cost it is not fair

Hello ;

I sold out one item on Ebay when payment is received I got shocked  to receive less  payment from Ebay . The selling fees 12.9 % has deducted  selling from total amount  including tax and shipping cost not from actual selling price of item . The Tax paid amount is not mine it is property of  IRS has to submit  by Ebay  and shipping cost amount also  not mine  has to pay to  courier service company . Due to unfair deduction of Ebay I paid  selling fees 14% to Ebay not 12.9 %  to . Please Ebay management deduct your selling fees from the actual selling price of item not from total amount

"Ive been a member since the beginning"

Ebay 'began' in 1995, not 2002.

eBay makes it very clear what the fees are and how they are calculated.  You might not like how they do them but in no way is it "not fair".  They set the fee schedule, you agree to that fee schedule when you sign up/list and they deduct that fee once it sells.  I am missing the part that is "not fair" about this transaction.

BTW, the sales tax has nothing to do with the IRS at all.

Heres the bottom line with this at the moment.

It is not fair.

Ebay knows no sellers like this change that occurred going to MP.

Ebay has no plans to stop including tax in the fvf calculation even though its was not included prior to MP.

This is a moneymaking change implemented for Ebay's benefit at sellers' expense.

For the forseeable future it won't be changing back.

This is the concise summary.

Yes but you know they did it this way to falsely claim that MP was going to be a better deal for sellers because it was a lower percentage than before w/paypal.

The majority of sellers pay more than before.  After you hit a larger item price its not a better deal for sellers.  But Ebay wanted to make it appear it would be better so that more people would be ok with switching over.  It wasn't true for most of them.  Lowering the percentage taken, but then adding in the sales tax to the fvf amount, winds up costing sellers more, not reducing what they are charged for the fvf.

At least it would be only  on the actual money the seller earns.  They know when they have to keep track of your 1099 info they cant include tax as part of your sales, but to squeek out an extra few bucks from you, they add it to your earnings for their fvf calculation.

See if they actually did what you say, and I say they should, then they lose the abilityto frame MP as being a better deal for sellers.  And that is how they sold MP to sellers in the first place, lower fees was a huge talking point benefit touted around.

They handled sales taxes prior to MP and it was not in the fvf calculations then.

5% vs 12.9%....It appears you are not very good at math?? And you had to stand on your soap box and spout crap about not being sad to see people leave the selling market, as it gives you more potential buyers, but buyers are not stupid. They can see the inflated price due to higher selling fees. Enjoy being gouged, and struggling to find people to buy your items, and as you say Ciao!

Wow, you know how to look at a profile. Just because my profile says that, doesn't mean that's when I started here.

Lets see...you thought it was so unfair that you still decided to list items on their website???

Just like you told a buyer that they must consider calibration before taking reading test.

So you must not list until you understand ebays "calibration"  on fees which are clearly shown upfront.

Ive been a member since the beginning, and I am not a new seller. Its been a while since Ive sold something, but was shocked also. I am done with Ebay now, as many others will likely leave as well. That is a ridiculous amount to be charged. Facebook is cheaper, and getting bigger, so I see the demise of this coming soon anyway.

It's getting a little better, but Facebook is still quite buggy and has it's own annoyances. You also have to deal with the fact that you can't easily do returns which will be a negative for a lot of buyers. In person, fine. Shipped? Less so. On top of that, Facebook also calculates their fee based off of total sale (item cost + shipping + sales tax). Yes, it's currently only 5%. So less of a hit. But I guarantee once they get the kinks of their marketplace worked out, they'll put the fee more in line with what other sites charge (10-20%).

On the other end, you can get around the fees by doing transactions in person. But you then gotta account for lost time for pick ups. People running late or decide not to show up. I usually just have people come to my house now instead of meeting somewhere super public with a team of snipers making sure the buyer doesn't do something hinky. But even then it's a lot more of a hassle than boxing something up and sending it somewhere.

No, individual sellers handled sales tax for their own individual states.......they set the % s, collected and sent the money to the state.  The ruling and implementation of  Marketplace taxation happened after Managed payment was implemented and the task of remitting to ALL states that collected sales tax fell to Ebay.......  Do YOU want to send the tax to each state yourself? plus maintain some kind of program that figures each state tax?

Pretty sure it was handled by PayPal and maybe yourself for your own state.

yes, paypal handled the money just like a bank account, but the seller had to set the % on the listing, send the money, fill out the forms, etc.  Granted it was only to his state...........not all 45.....or however many now have sales tax laws.....

How could you tell all that from my post?

You won't change and thing and posting here won't help.  The best plan of action is to just figure a straight up 20% fee when you sell here. You won't need to complain or try changing anything which is useless anyway. You will be healthier, have less stress, and be happy with your life in the long run.
