Sold item "pickup only", ebay flagged me for exchanging contact info w/ buyer after pmnt. was made.

  So I called ebay "support" and asked them what the protocal was for completing a "local pickup only" transaction....  They don't know.

I've gotten the warning before as a buyer. Basically it says watch out for this rascal; s/he may be trying to rip you off by directing you off eBay.

 

As usual, they word it so the seller is the evil conniver in the whole thing and the buyer MAY be a poor innocent lamb being led to slaughter.

 

 

Thanks, georg.  I've been looking for this answer for a while now.  As usual, ebay weasel words used when saying, "We send the message to the buyer, also."  

 

I'm not trying to impugn Trinton but I believe somewhere way back he (or some other ebay employee) said buyer and seller receive the same message.  I did not believe that.

There is no PayPal protection for local pickup.

 

However, with no evidence to invalidate that payment due to local pickup, the buyer was covered for INR, and won the case for no tracking showing delivered.


I would never list local pick-up on ebay because there is no way to STOP the buyer from paying with paypal. Plus why pay the fees, there's plenty of ways to list locally without ebay.

I have some items that I am now listing on CL - not worth the hassle when eBay "allows" buyers to pay via PP - in essence, eBay and PP is encouraging fraud.   SMH 😞 

 

My mother had an expression that if I posted it I would be banned - but if it is no longer enjoyable and/or profitable, I have to end the relationship.  I am now only a buyer

Update: So the buyer sent me a msg. through ebay w/ phone number and it went through. When I called the buyer's first question was **bleep** did we do wrong? I called support back regarding the flag. BTW, does anyone know exactly what this flag does? Support kicked me around through a few non-US countries for 32 minutes when the final so-called supporter had several long pauses I asked if they could call back when they figured it out and they said yes. I made them promise and they laughed and assured me they would call back.... 3 days gone by, they didn't. Calling back again today to try my luck. My main argument now is HOW CAN I RECEIVE A FLAG FOR "OUTSIDE EBAY DEALINGS" REGARDING AN ITEM I SOLD ON EBAY AND EBAY HAS BEEN PAID IN FULL FOR???? Thanks for all the replies and concerns...

Hey everyone, happy to give some next steps on this. A seller can provide a customer service phone number to their buyers by inputting this information within their account settings. You will need to make sure your account is set up as a Business Account under "Personal Information" in your Account settings. From there you can go to "Manage communication with buyers" and select Edit to the right of "What your buyers can do" about three-fourths of the way down the page. From there, you can input a customer service number on the next screen that buyers will be provided when they try to contact a seller after purchase. This will allow you and the buyer work out a meeting time and location for the item they purchased.

 

Addtionally, I want to clarify that we review any concerns of an off site sale and would be able to see that this was a local pickup situation, so there is nothing to worry about. Certain words or phrases can trigger our automated email, however no action is taken until a manual review of the details is performed.

I was selling a jet ski and in the description I added cash on pick-up and inspection. Was told I can't ask for cash in the listing or specify cash. What? Thought they couldn't force you to take pay-pal.
