Slow Sales?

Sales down, views down, interactions down.  Anybody else experiencing slow sales, views? Due to Capitol insurgence? Would love to hear from some of you.  Thanks and stay safe.

...and as most eBay buyers are cheap....uhm, I mean *conscientious consumers*, by nature, any way, this is just double jeopardy for sellers..

Re: Slow Sales?

Love these slightly aged assumptive posts. My sales were steady all through the capital hoax. Didnt fall off a cliff till last week when managed payments took over. I average 12 sales on saturdays and 9 on sundays for over a year. Zero this first managed payment saturday and 3 sunday. Feb 14th weekend.

Re: Slow Sales?

Well, I'm not spending as much. Worried about the cost of living. If fuel and electricity prices rise, the cost of everything goes up and I have less to spend on luxuries. Which is everything I buy here.

So for the foreseeable future, I'm going to be spending less and expanding my rainy day fund into a rainy year fund.

Re: Slow Sales?

Yes since the beginning of January sales have slowed down significantly. I'm down 50% from last year. Returns are still going strong though! It will pick back up though, it always does.

Re: Slow Sales?

I have duplicate listings across several platforms, and it's bad everywhere.  Ebay isn't alone on this, but they certainly aren't helping anything by trying to convince me that sales are up 20% YoY in the categories i sell the most in, and sales are >10% higher than last month!  Things are going GREAT, guys.  Nothing to see here.

Re: Slow Sales?

I'm in the same boat. Sales were gangbusters through Jan 6th. Coincidence? Not. In the middle of my busy season and sales are now down 50%. So I fast forward to my plan for the slow season. Build up my product line while waiting for the next busy season.

Re: Slow Sales?

Despite being in clothing, I had a great January and strong start to Feb, but fell off a cliff this week. Lights back on, please, eBay...

Re: Slow Sales?

Reasons for slow sales:

1.  Gas prices going up.

2. Food prices going up because gas prices going up.

3.  Cable/satellite providers raised prices (every January)

4.  Postage prices went up.

5.  People out of work, because of:

      a.  C-19,

       b.  Employers cutting hours because of lost business.

6.  Severe storms in USA right now.

      a.  3 million people without power because of frozen turbines not working in                  Texas.

7.  No Stimulus

8.  People are buying what the need because not what they want because money is tight and getting tighter.

9.  Taxes coming due.

Feel free to add to the list.

If that's the case, then all you've stated has been going on for awhile now. Here's something that happened to me a couple of years ago, I had a Disney Christmas ornament and decided to sell it the first of December that year. No sale on it art all. In January the next year, I posted it. It sold in a couple of days. That makes NO SENSE AT ALL. Sales just stink now, plus the search engine is wonky AGAIN. What happens when one tries to compete with Amazon with no plan.

drusalina -

“Texas is a gas state,” said Michael Webber, an energy resources professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

While Webber said all of Texas’ energy sources share blame for the power crisis, the natural gas industry is most notably producing significantly less power than normal.

“Gas is failing in the most spectacular fashion right now,” Webber said.

The Wind turbines are still "part" of the problem.

"But the vast majority of energy the state generates is through natural gas. In October 2020, the U.S. Energy Information Administration reported that renewables generated 22% of the state’s energy, while gas generated 51.8%."

I don't have a problem with the renewable energy.  But they have to have backup if they fail.    They are now spraying chemicals on the turbines to get them running.

I do agree with you that wind turbines were/are part of the problem. However, your statement suggested that they were wholly responsible for the problem. I am not trying to be argumentative, just want to set the record straight.

Agreed.  I should have said part of the problem in my initial post.   I don't believe they can  just cut off the old ways of having energy, without making sure that the new way will cover what is needed.   Florida is building solar sites like crazy.  Even Disney has huge solar fields they are using and building (they produce their own energy for the parks).  I worry that a hurricane will wipe them out.  But we still have a couple of nuke plants and other energy sources as backup.  Florida Power and Light does a pretty good job, IMHO.

Good points. I think we would all benefit by increasing energy efficiency standards so we end up using less energy all together. May increase costs initially, but in the long run we all win. Best to you and hope you have more sales than you can handle.
