Shadow banning items..

Ebay is shadow banning items to upsell its "promote it" feature..

I listed a very desirable item a few days ago and it's had ONE VIEW.

At the same time I'm getting messages from Ebay to promote the item..

Said item is AUD$2250 and obviously Ebay want an even bigger cut of the sale than their usual pound of flesh..

Ebay are crooks ..

Re: Shadow banning items..

Well, at least it had one view.  I guess they didn't find it very desirable.

Re: Shadow banning items..

You may be better served asking your question in eBay Australia's Community https://community.ebay.com.au/

You are currently on eBay.com US community boards, we can't even see your listing since you don't ship to the US.

Re: Shadow banning items..

They must be doing more than that. Even as an Australian buyer I don't see any items listed on this account and only a total of 7 items ever sold.

Re: Shadow banning items..

Listings can't be shadow banned if they aren't listed.

@simostime

Honestly, if it was desirable, it would have more views.

Re: Shadow banning items..

I have 350 very desirable items listed.

Only 2 of them sold yesterday.

Proof positive that there is shadow banning going on.

Re: Shadow banning items..

I got a customer service "how'd we do" survey after trying to get something resolved. I was pretty upset at the time and didn't have anything good to say and reiterated my complaints since they refused to deal with the problem. Since then I haven't sold anything. This is very unusual as I normally sell a number of items every day. I'm a TRS and don't have any strikes against me and have 100% feedback *knock on wood* This is very weird considering I had a sale going on as well. I feel like since I spoke out and reported and blocked a couple of buyers I've gotten a shadow ban.

This could totally be coincidental but my sales have never been this bad.

Re: Shadow banning items..

Did you ask about this on the Australian version of eBay?

Re: Shadow banning items..

Interesting, I noticed my sales slump right after I gave an unfavorable survey because they couldn't resolve a problem. Thought it must be coincidence but maybe not

Re: Shadow banning items..

Yes, Ebay would slump your sales so they can make less money on them.

Re: Shadow banning items..

I do not think that ebay "shadow bans" items however in order for those who pay for promoted listings to get any value it requires that those who do not pay for promoted listings will necessarily be lower in search results and the search results will necessarily not match what the buyer was searching for as well as a organic search.

In my opinion ebay would be better for both buyers and sellers if organic search was all that was used, ebay is looking for short term gains that are doing long range damage.
