Seriously!? All of my selling ids have HIGH RETURNS according to eBay...

I just got an email on all of my selling ids telling me that I have high returns..wth is this about!? One id has only had 2 returns, and both were closed by eBay because of no activity. It says in all of the emails I got that I had 4 returns, which is not true.

Did anybody else get this email? Did it say your returns are more than average too? This is silly!

eBay is encouraging everyone to accept 60 day returns and free returns, then they are telling people they need to cut down on them!?

I'm confused and annoyed by this...

Re: Seriously!? All of my selling ids have HIGH RETURNS according to eBay...

This is the type of thing that really makes me contemplate selling somewhere else.  I get this stupid email on all 3 of my selling accounts saying that I have high returns.  Incidentally all 3 accounts are TPS.  Now I see many other sellers are not calling customer service and receiving customer dis-service as only eBay can provide it.  Management really needs to get their heads out of their butts so that they can get some perspective!!!!!

Ebay is bipolar. They are concerned with Return rates and they are forcing Free Returns on us, which is going to Increase returns. I just shook my head when I opened Email.

Re: Seriously!? All of my selling ids have HIGH RETURNS according to eBay...

They may very well trying to squeeze certain categories out - but there are alot of seller of clothing who pay some high fees that they'll be missing out on. Being Ebay has no skin in the game as far as money - they shouldn't care what is sold here besides, banned or illegal items, as long as they get their cut.

They do quite a bit of business with the fetishes - most of which involve clothing. Now they may be trying to eliminate categories with high returns like clothing to push a new campaign. Less than 1% of our buyers have problems and have to return. Or they realize that the bulk of return are clothing related and with Ayden being only a processor - they'll have their hands full. What % of people go right to paypal to return an item? I don't know

Curious about something..........

Did anyone who has free returns get the "your rate is too high" email?????

I never got the email and do have free returns.....  Based on what people are saying....I should have gotten it.....4 returns this year......1.66% rate........

i'm just wondering if they aren't trying to force people into free returns, as opposed to forcing anyone out........

Re: Seriously!? All of my selling ids have HIGH RETURNS according to eBay...

I could be wrong, but I think eBay said as long as we took care of a problem ie: Not as described) there would be no price to pay? And, as most of us know 'Not as described means FREE RETURNS for buyers! Most of our returns are buyers who use this loophole and has nothing to do with our description!!! eBay knows this, but they are upset because they have to return our seller fees and don't want to admit its mostly their fault!

Re: Seriously!? All of my selling ids have HIGH RETURNS according to eBay...

So first OFF ...let me state that this is NOT MY SELLING ID, so please don't think that I  have no skin in this game. I have been top rated HIGH VOLUME Seller selling on Ebay for 16 years now. I was NEVER more angry in my life at ebay than when I got that email.

I have been on the phone for hours over the last 2 days with a minimum of FIFTEEN CS REPS.  I have been lied to and transfered time and time again.

I am like most of you., an honest , excellent and highly rated seller who cares about ALL my customers.

We all know that when ebay took the ability away from Sellers to leave NEGATIVE FEEDBACK that ALL HECK BROKE LOOSE ON THIS SITE AND FLOODED US WITH FALSE CLAIMS FROM BUYERS TRYING TO GET STUFF FOR FREE....

Out of all the retun cases I am being threatened with over  95% were  actually CLOSED IN MY FAVOR when ebay ruled I did nothing wrong OR the BUYER NEVER returned the item EVEN AFTER I sent them free postage to do so.

YET.....in the seller dashboard it still shows MULTIPLE RETURNS when in actuallity I had ONE genuine return wherein I screwed up and sent the wrong part.

The interesting thing is that NO ONE AT EBAY says they have ANY CAPABILITY to set the record straight and reflect the reality on the ground.

I told them it is a like a man who is accused of having committed two felonies and is cleared as 100% innocent, but yet THE THIRD time when he is actually guilty of the offense he now goes to prison for LIFE on the 3 strikes you are out program because the first two false crimes were NEVER CLEARED FROM HIS PERMANENT RECORD AND WERE ACTUALLY LEFT ON HIS RECORD AS GUILTY PLEAS for all intents and purposes!

We all KNOW this CURRENT THREAT is actually a BETA test and although they are saying we won't be affected NOW....come in 3 to 4 months they WILL PUNISH us and I had ONE HONEST CS REP  actuallly confirm that this is indeed the case.

At this point I am at my wit's end. Everything ebay has done to sellers, especially for the last 3 years now,  has been PUNITIVE in nature. Fees go up up UP and the discounts go down down down and MORE THREATS KEEP COMING COMING COMING!!

We all need to CALL AND WRITE EBAY and DEMAND that they reinstate the ablitiy of SELLERS to leave NEGATIVE FEEDBACK for the 5% of CROOKED BUYERS CAUSING OUR HEADACHES. If that is done than within 6 months 95% of ALL OUR PROBLEMS will then be solved

Re: Seriously!? All of my selling ids have HIGH RETURNS according to eBay...

As much as I agree with much of what you say- tis will not eliminate bogus returns because buyers can start new IDs and continue buying. Also many of us use Immediate payment only so we have no time to look at a buyer's feedback before the payment is made toblock them from buying the items.

Or how about I'm a  honest buyer - but get no help from a seller when I have an honest problem. If I leave them a neutral or neg - they will do the same to me in kind ( just like the old days ) and then other sellers think I'm the problem and don't want to deal with me.

I definitely think that Ebay should be more concerned with many of the overseas sellers who scam the buyers by sending inferior items and sellers who are continually OOS than someone with less than a 3% return margin - as returns are a part of doing business - you are never going to please everyone no matter what you do. I don't think it's wrong to advise sellers to up their game - make sure to check and describe your items properly - so you don't get returns.

I agree that cases we have won -should not be thrown into the mix. They also have to realize that a good percentage of even "good" buyers choose SNAD as they don't want to pay for return shipping. But they aren't going to do that at the present so everyone has some tough business descisions to make for the future.  Do remember that the grass isn't always greener on the other side!

They already shot themselves in one foot more than once--just reloading now  to shoot the other foot.

No real concerns with  apparent thinking  as Chinese sellers-fees-Happy  buyers- provide  those needed foot bandaids.

No doubt that E bay will be around for a long time--just sad that the many small sellers that have been loyal over the years  will most likely see no reason to stay.

I know about eBay's fetishes... I logged into my email the other day to show my male co-worker a picture that a friend sent me. On the right hand side of email where the ads are was a coloured ad of two pictures, one involving an outfit that looked like it was being worn by an adult film star, the other items in the other picture are things you need to be 18+ to buy in Canada. How embarassing... I can't even log into my email at work anymore without worrying about what ads might show up.

Cheers, C.

Re: Seriously!? All of my selling ids have HIGH RETURNS according to eBay...

I had this message yesterday, 2 returns in the last year, one was damaged in transit and the other one was my fault. Both were refunded right away. I hardly would call that a bad practice, i was at 1.2 %.

@chrysylyswrote:

Gotta love it when they coerce sellers into taking retunrs for any reason, no questions asked, then slap them for doing so.

Summer Seller Update "1) Mandatory to offer Free Returns. 2) You must stop buyers from returning items... figure it out, genius!"

@tunicaslotSo did you get the email too? I checked and didn't get one. I don't have free returns... my return rate for clothing went from 1.3% to 1.5% in the last month. I do expect it to rise too given the hoops we have to jump thru. If you got the email maybe you can let me know what percentage for clothing does ebay consider as "average".

Funny, I've asked this of at least 6 reps, and they all claimed that my return rate will have no affect on my visibility. I'm so sick of ebay reps and their lies. Does upper managment tell them to do this? Or are they just ignorant? I don't know which scenerio is worse.

Hi @jpcustomsonline , @tealt , @auctionpop , @Anonymous , @tunicaslot thanks for your questions about how this impacts your visibility. Low rates of after-sale requests can help improve your listing’s visibility. If you receive an “item not as described” claim, your seller performance standard may be affected if you don’t resolve the buyer request in a timely manner.
