Seller Protection

i sold a customer a $1200.00 fuel pump  customer got it & said it made grinding sounds so he did a return i sent him a ebay usps label $6.85   when we sent the pump it cost us $22.00 with signature where ebay came up with $6.85 i dont know. so he mailed it back & the usps lost it.  no scans for 10 days, ebay refuned the customer & took the money  back from us.  talked to 5 ebay agents & they all said i was covered 100%,  well today ebay closed the case with no refund to us.  we did appeal  the case & still lost  what a big  loss.

Re: Seller Protection

  • eBay's Automated System:
When you request a return through eBay, they handle the return label and its associated cost.

  • Cheapest Option:
eBay's system is designed to find the most cost-effective return shipping option for the seller.

  • Estimated Costs:
In some cases, the return shipping cost is an estimate based on negotiated rates, not the actual weight of the package.

If you didn't suspect already, you should know by now NEVER to trust what those agents tell you.   Apparently, so long as the buyer gets a scan on the return, they are good to go.  It doesn't matter anymore if anything is marked "delivered" to you (it hasn't mattered in years WHAT is in the parcel either).  Its the new "you should have received this by now, so you did, and the buyer will be refunded" program.   It is not publicized, but mentioned here often enough we know it is happening.

Re: Seller Protection

if you're the one paying the return shipping, you're still responsible if it gets lost in the mail.

Have a great day.

USPS can no longer be trusted with anything that you can not afford to loose

Go to USPS website and review the detail tracking info.

On this tracking screen there is a place to file for email updates as there is movement on the tracking. Sign up for that so you get informed right away when something gets entered to the tracking.

Go and file for a TRACE, I don't recommend filing for Missing Mail just yet. The two are completely different actions. The Trace usually gets the job done quicker.

You should do all of this so that you know the moment movement starts happening again.  Since Ebay forced the refund, you can appeal it once the item starts moving again and/or is delivered to you.  You need to keep a close watch on the tracking.  That is your best thing to do.  Trying to appeal now is just going to be a big NO.

To comment on the title of this thread "Seller Protection", eBay doesn't really have any seller protection.  About the only one is if a buyer files an "item not received" claim and the tracking shows the package was delivered, eBay will side with the seller.  Otherwise, eBay pretty much sides with the buyer on most everything else.

Re: Seller Protection

You need to file a claim with USPS for the lost package & hopefully they will find it, The difference in the shipping is huge, I don't understand ebay on that one.

if you use ebay return shipping there is no insurance As far as I can tell the only way to insure a return is if the seller buys a label with insurance and sends that to the buyer

'talked to 5 eBay agents'...why 5 and not just one?

I would think one would be enough to talk to even if they give the wrong answer.
