So I have been selling on ebay for a bit now. Not a lot but some items here and there for some extra money. I sold a PS4 that I have had for a while and it was completely working when I sent it but stated at the bottom that I was shipping it as it was so if it arrived broken that I was not gonna deal with that or accept refunds and this dude says he wants a refund. I see the picture he sent me and it looks nothing like the PS4 I sent. What do I do now? I have heard horror stories about eBay being a complete d**k to sellers. Any steps or things I should do to deal with this shi**ty buyer with supposed 3k reviews all 5 stars? There are minor scuffs on the front of the ps4 that are different and the top of my PS4 is spray painted terribly so it's bumpy and his clearly isn't especially since his gray PS4 logo is painted on already and mine is carved in.
What he says is not working
What I sent

Right now, all you can do is refund the buyer or accept the return, pay return shipping and refund the buyer once you get it back.
If they do send back a different item, you can appeal the case after it's been closed.

You basically have to decide if you want to pay return shipping for HIS old PS4 that is broken.
or
Let him keep the one you mailed and refund him
It sucks, but you aren't going to win and those are the only choices.

This platform offers a money back guarantee to all buyers. Your own no returns policy is superseded by eBay’s return policy in the TOS. Once the buyer selects Item Not As Described or not working you will have to pay for the return shipping or eBay will deduct it from your account, regardless of what you stated in your own listing. Your best bet is to accept the return and issue the return label or you will also receive a defect on your selling account. It happens; it's a part of selling online. If you don't want it back, then you can just refund. This is online selling for electronics these days. Best of luck to you....

And that Apple pen you have listed is just asking for another snad case to be opened against you. You dont know if it works because you cant test it? And sold 'as is' with no returns? No such thing on Ebay.

And you really need to get rid of this in your tos. Its unenforceable, and you are just asking for a bad buyer to scam you with another snad case.

"Scam?
stated at the bottom that I was shipping it as it was so if it arrived broken that I was not gonna deal with that or accept refunds"
Yes, it is a scam for a shipper to not take responsibility for breakage during shipping.

Thank you. 🙂 I was told to not pay the shipping label by eBay customer support and wait for him to send the PS4 back. I will open it up again and the eject the game that was in there because according to him it wouldn't even turn on so if it doesn't turn on the game I sent inside the console should still be in there hypothetically. I will however never be selling anything over 200 on ebay ever again. 😠
Also thank you everyone who wished me good luck. eBay should really back the seller as much as they do the buyer.

I think $200 is too high, but yes, there are some things that are best for other platforms. As for backing the seller, as much as we will like it, is not really an easy thing to do. The logistics of it are not there.
Good luck on this issue, hopefully things work out your way and you find another option to sell it.

On eBay, any buyer can steal any item from any seller at any time by filing a fraudulent dispute. That has been true since 2008 when eBay introduced their money back guarantee. It looks like you have run into a buyer who is willing to lie in order to steal an item.
That aside ..
In your listing you said it was working, but that if it arrives broken you were "not going to deal with that". On eBay, "not going to deal with that" is another way of saying that you will refund the buyer without getting the item back.

"I was told to not pay the shipping label by eBay customer support and wait for him to send the PS4 back. "
That sounds like more inaccurate information from a phone csr. Did this buyer open an actual not as described case?

If buyer opened an INAD case then you have to pay for the return label or after a certain time period the case closes in the buyers favor and they get a refund and the item

They did. I called and asked him what to do and he said "Don't pay for shipping label, wait for ebay to step in and force you to refund and then when they close it appeal it" which made all about no sense but I just accepted what he said. I definitely do not want to accept this refund because I already know he is going to send his broken PS4 and there is nothing I can do and have to take the 200 dollar loss even though I only got a payout of 160 something plus the 40 dollars of shipping. so 240 lost because of a scammer.

It's inaccurate information that could very well cause the OP to lose both the money and the item. How long will eBay allow CS to be so dysfunctional? You'd never know eBay was a multi-billion $ company with such ghetto customer service.

when Ebay steps in, they will refund the buyer and he will keep the item. And because you didnt respond to the case as you should have, there is no appeal. Im sorry but thats just the way it is here. Then you will also receive a defect on your account for being unresponsive to the case.
