Oct 2022 Q & A Discussion Post

devon@ebay

This question was asked back in Oct 2022. eBay response attached.

Hello Elizabeth,

Could you please confirm where funds are supposed to be removed when a customer cancels an order AFTER payment. I have been told by agents that it should be from the pending transaction. This does not seem to be true. On several occasions funds were pulled from my bank account even though funds were never sent. A cancel should be straight reversal. Seeing as eBay is the processor of these funds, cancellations should be handled from those funds.

It is similar to Promoted Fees which should be pulled from the pending charge. Not from a bank balance Because you can only "attempt" to hold funds(CANADA- playing with payout settings) it makes it difficult to always be able to cover store fees. In Canada on many accounts there can be additional fees for over the limit monthly transactions. Has there been any update as to when processed funds can be used for other purchases like what is available in the USA?

Thanks,

-Lotzofuniquegoodies

PS. This is also a major concern for sellers that use eBay labels and the delay(s) in processing shipments. Funds not being in the right place at the right time.

Hey @lotzofuniquegoodies. We're going to reach out to our Payment Specialist's on this to get confirmation, and then we'll touch base on their response.

It is now 3 months later. There was never any follow up. Please advise. I'm more interested in an answer to first question.  This is still an ongoing major concern for sellers. The pattern(no follow up) appears to be what happens with the majority of the questions asked. Nothing in the way of a resolution to those questions requiring specific concrete answers.

Thanks,

-Lotzofuniquegoodies.

As a side, there were other questions in that discussion that also were never fully answered.

Please read how refunds work.

The buyer can request to cancel but the seller doesn't have to. Should you agree to the cancellation you must make sure you attached  a payment method for seller fees because eBay won't let you cancel if you haven't attached a method to pay the .30 cancellation fee.

I don't  know why either of those eBay links aren't working. I see no mistake in the urls. The first link is found by going to the Help & Contact link and type in Refunding buyers.  It's  a 2 min article.

Then to find the other link type in the help search bar

Setting up and changing your payment method for fees and selling costs. It's a 3 min article.

OK. I give up, it says warning the site is not safe and won't go there which is totally crazy. I've used these links dozens of times, if not more. Use the Help search bar at Help & Contact.

I though only Sellers can perform a cancellation?

But, all my 'refunds' for any cancellations always come from the 'processing' dollars and never the bank (since I always have something 'processing'). But, once that money is in the 'we're depositing' (even though you don't have the money yet) then $ would have to come from the bank.

If a buyer hasn't paid and requests the cancellation and the seller doesn't  respond by three days, eBay will automatically accept the cancellation.

Your response here has nothing to do with the question being asked.

The question asked was "Cancelled AFTER payment is made"

(Could you please confirm where funds are supposed to be removed when a customer cancels an order AFTER payment. I have been told by agents that it should be from the pending transaction.)

Thanks for the clarification @gwens*4saleitems*  to my original message. I've had several "eBay generated conflicts" since MP started and getting a true answer since day 1 seems to be next to impossible to discover. Recent situation below.

Had enough funds to cover store fees for January. Meantime those fees got deposited (transferred) to my bank account the morning of Jan 3, 2023 leaving me with a 0.00 balance. That was followed by the charges for store fees later that day giving me a negative balance. The following day (mid afternoon)I received a message (ebay) mail that funds would be removed from my back up funds source (checking account). Later that day I had a sale. Enough to cover store fees. Although that transaction was pending store fees were removed from that   balance. A day later the funds for the recent sale cleared. When I review my summary, it now shows (as of the 6th) the charges for store fees were processed as of the 3rd. (basically back dated). For anyone reading this, hopefully you can see my confusion...to quote the movie eBay and a series of Unfortunate Events. Life imitating art!

Because of the eBay notification email I have been checking my bank balance to confirm a payment was not also removed. To date? No. All that would be required is an option for sellers to choose a first of the month payout date. A good date would be the 5th due to the fact that store fees, like clockwork, are billed on the the 3rd.
