Re: SALES

couples are no longer getting that $8,000 a month stimulis check

Ummm--- That's a bit high.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/business/coronavirus-stimulus-check-calculator/

A single person who had been earning $70K annually was getting $1400 monthly check - which is $2800 for a working couple with no children.

If your family income was about half that AND you had children, you could get $4200 -- which is about $12 an hour each.

Not exactly living high on the hog.

Re: SALES

I am approaching 5 months of this bleep.  2-3 sales a week.  It's not the economy or other convenient excuses.  eBay has changed so much & they are losing sellers/buyers.  Last week, I had 12 sales.  So, only for that week, the economy was fine & no vacations??  lol  There is plenty of money flowing.  All you have to do is check sold listings to see people are spending a lot.

Summer is usually slow.  I can usually move books but not this summer - it seems to be toys!  Go figure.

Re: SALES

Good afternoon'

So nice of you to jot a line regarding our Ebay Sales    I too believe it is not only the Inflation conditions.

Ebay has done a drastic change as to hurt the antique dealers tremendously    The Categories, that were so very helpful, have been totally deleted.   They are structuring themselves more to the contemporaries.

They forget.  it was the antiques that got them started    I've been with them since 1998, not as heavily as now. but, yes, have been with them almost since the beginning

A personal question....have you tried Etsy ????    If so,  kindly give a heads up. as their operation.

Again,  a thanks for taking the time to jot a note

Re: SALES

I've thought about trying etsy again, they seem to be a lot less flakey and judgemental than a decade ago when I tried them.

My concern is the high listing costs there.

I agree.

But what constitutes an antique?

When I married in 1968, we bought golden oak furniture in the thrift shops because it was cheap and sturdy.

Today I buy a magazine called Atomic Ranch, which features homes decorated as if it were 1968 all Sputnik chandeliers and orange/avocado/ harvest gold* appliances. The stuff we longed for, but couldn't afford.

One hundred years old is an antique. That's 1922. Flappers and silent movies and jazz and Art Deco.

Time is a moving arrow.

*Full disclosure- I LIKE harvest gold, and I have painted my kitchen orange.

Re: SALES

1-Buyers get sticker shock when they checkout and back off.  They are charged shipping + taxes + other surcharges.

2 - People are holding tight to their purse (incl. me)

3 - The social media influencers are NOT talking about Ebay.  They talk about other sites and Direct to consumer sales, but EB is not mentioned like it used to years ago.  Influences are talking about other sites.  Like W*A*N*T.

4 - EB doesn't advertise and market like other sites.

Re: SALES

Sanctions,  the sanctions on Russia are causing harm to the food economy in particular.  What most Americans don't understand is American farmers get a lot of their fertilizer from Russia.  Then there's the failed energy policies that have driven up gas prices.  Saudi just told Biden to kick rocks.  When the US is funding a proxy war they send the bill to Mr & Mrs America and I don't mean the elites.  They do this via inflation.  Just look how desperate the fed is for funds.  There are 1 million or more posts about people complaining about being treated like a corporation for selling $600 worth of used house hold goods(mostly at a loss). You've got a mass shooting every hour.  The country is a mess.  Consumer confidence is at a low.  Fears are real , it's going to get worse.  While it is summer and some people will get less sales, I think that's an old fashion brick and mortar excuse. People buy things now-a-days with a click on their phone.  Too many people,  collectors,  don't have enough extra cash to make purchases.  Sanctions have only hurt Americans and that may have been the plan all along.  The repair will take a longgggg time even if sanctions ended today.

Re: SALES

For the first time in 2022, I've had sales 5 days in a row!  1 per day but all decent $.  So much for the theory of slow summer sales & people are only buying necessities.  1 per day isn't an explosion but it shows people are still buying collectibles on a daily basis.  ANYTHING can sell at any time!  As long as enough eyeballs can locate your listings.  🙂

Re: SALES

This is an interest graph as I can definitely point to July 1 as the point that my sales fell off 70%....... I've said this on a number of posts already.....a 10-30% slowdown from one moment to the next might be economic......a 70% is a selling platform issue.

I have experienced this 2-3 times before but this is by far the worse ever.

Re: SALES

My sales have dropped of precipitously.  I’m barely making enough to cover expenses.  Last time this happened was 2017 and in September my sales had dropped by 98% of what they hade been that spring.  I ended up ending all my listings and downgrading my store and reworking everything and gradually putting listings back in .  I still don’t have the same number I had back then.  Hope this doesn’t turn out like that.  I’ve been using other venues more, selling exclusive items and limiting EBay to just parts.  No payoff yet.

Re: SALES

My personal selling account is up 95% over the last 30 days. No idea why the big increase, I've pretty much taken the summer off & haven't been listing more than a couple of new items per month. I have maybe 100 items that have been up for 4-6 months. But, those items have been selling in the past 30 days.

The work account is down  15% over the past 30 days. Still, that is double what we did last year at the same time. I haven't been spending much time working on the work account for the past couple of months. Way too busy with my other chores here at the store to spend time on eBay.

Our cost increases for the items we sell have been huge, & we have to pass that along to the buyer. I am sure the price increases have affected sales. We are also having big problems getting the product we order. Some things that have sold well are out of stock with our suppliers, with no idea when they will be available. If we can't get it, we can't sell it.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.
