Offer higher than my asking price?

I just got offered $230 for a product I listed for $190 and the buyer left his phone number and asked me to kindly accept his offer. They are from the Netherlands could this be a scam?

Anyone that offers you more than your asking for and/or asks you to text or call them is a scammer. Decline and ignore.

It's definitely a scam, block the buyer.

ALWAYS, without exception always keep ALL your communication within the Ebay email system.  While sometimes buyers might offer more than asking, that part isn't a red flag, but them asking you to call them or if they ask you for your phone number.  Decline and move on.  No good will come of this transaction.

Re: Offer higher than my asking price?

Offering more than starting on an auction does not indicate scammer. However on a fixed price listing it’s likely

Call them (collect) and tell them they will receive a free $500 gift card of their with their purchase.

Assure them that your offer is not a scam.

Re: Offer higher than my asking price?

It is a SCAM.  There have been a number of those brought to the forum's attention out of the Netherlands of late.

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

The foolishness of one's actions or words is determined by the number of witnesses.

Perhaps if Brains were described as an APP, many people would use them more often.

I trust you but I’m just wondering how they scam by doing this?

I believe there are several scenarios for how the thing works out.  If you call the number they will try to get information about how to pay you off eBay.  A violation of the UA, by the way.  Of course, they may, and probably will, attempt to convince you through an email that you have received payment and to ship the item.  Naturally, the payment and that email would be bogus.

These are just a couple of ways that this type of scam works.

Re: Offer higher than my asking price?

Offer at above the listing price is not always a scam, but in your particular case it most definitely is.

Of course, if the item was being sold at auction it would make more sense to make an offer higher than the starting bid price if one is attempting to get the seller to end the auction and sell to you.   However, I would advise against doing that also.

In this case, the inclusion of a phone number in the offer pretty much screams that the one making it is up to no good, in my opinion.

Re: Offer higher than my asking price?

Is there anyway for them to scam me if I accept the offer on eBay?

Just go by the old saying, if it sounds too good to be true... .
