Not getting payouts

Is anyone else experiencing not getting payouts, specifically under the 600 threshold but being told you need to provide ssn/tin to have payment released?  I've had numerous calls, I'm told this is a large issue affecting many on the platform, yet the ticket with IT remains unresolved for months.  This seems unlikely, but I'd love to hear from others who may be experiencing the same issue.

@ajturner29

The $600 threshold is for an IRS FORM called the 1099K.  Not a minimum threshold for you to get your payouts.

You will continue to have your payments held until you supply the information Ebay needs as I'm sure they told you in the email that notified you that more info was needed.  Refusing to give them the info they need will not work out well for you.  Ebay will not release the money to you.

Whomever you talked to is just trying to make you happy and get you off the phone.  It is not a glitch on the site.  It is part of the rules now.  IT will not resolve it because they can't.

Please review the below link carefully. It contains very important information as to how Ebay needs to see the information you provide them on your account. It is likely easier to change your Ebay account to match your bank account if you find there to be a difference.

Re: Not getting payouts

Perhaps I've misinterpreted this policy listed here -? https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/ebay-form-1099k?id=4794

I understand the irs reporting requirements that eBay has been required to comply with.  I also understand that those reporting requirements are based on the 600 threshold as previously noted.  If a seller has not met that threshold, are you saying they still are required to provide their  SSN?  That's not what the policy states, nor is it in any other requirement that I'm aware of.

You noted that if I refuse to provide my ssn that it won't work out well- I'm not sure I understand why I, or anybody would give that, if they are not required?

@ajturner29

eBay is not the only internet sales venue requiring that information, it has become the industry norm with the $ 600 threshold for venues to issue the 1099K forms to Sellers.

It is your choice whether or not to provide the information.

Re: Not getting payouts

My core question is, if I've only sold 500 dollars am I required to provide my ssn to receive the pay out?

If you're close to $600, they want your SSN so they don't have to fight to get it later.

Have a great day.

Re: Not getting payouts

You're attempting to sell an $18000 item. eBay wants all your information BEFORE you make that $18,000 sale, so they will be sure they are in compliance with federal law.

You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

Re: Not getting payouts

This doesn't seem to be in accordance with the written policy though, am I correct in that statement based on the policy linked in the thread?

Haven't checked it yet.

Whats the big deal about giving your SSN, I gave mine when I first switched to MP so I wouldn't have to worry about it later.

It's up to you if you want to be paid or not.

Have a great day.

They have requested the information ... its October, they have no idea if the account will sell anything this year.  It's pretty simple, they have advised that in order to get paid the information needs to be supplied.  I think the "core question" being asked is like splitting hairs and if there was wiggle room in their policy you would NOT have received the request ... so as many here have advised, the choice is yours, supply the info or don't, it's your choice.  Choose wisely.

You can argue semantics all day but they won't give you your money unless they get the info they want.

Re: Not getting payouts

According to the feedback you have received and left, you have sold two cars in the past year.

2001 Porsche Boxster (#325009594065)

1999 Mercedes-Benz SLK230 230 KOMPRESSOR (#324875229579)

Your current car listing requires a $500 deposit, which will be processed by managed payments. Assuming the same deposit was required, even if only one of the previous sales was in 2022, you will be over the limit if the current item sells, so eBay has to have the information before that.

Re: Not getting payouts

Yes, it appears you did not read this section properly:

Confirming your identity

To sell on eBay, we'll need to confirm your identity at registration. We may also need to confirm your identity at other times. If you’re a Registered Business seller, we’ll need to confirm information about your business, as well as any beneficial owners, officers, directors, or account managers.

Individual sellers (one person or a married couple) will need to provide:

  • Full name
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Social Security Number (SSN)

Re: Not getting payouts

I may be wrong but from what I understand, it has to do with the IRS - they have no idea what you'll sell or how  much you make, but no matter what you do sell, the IRS knows what you did.

Hi @hachumi   I believe this reply was intended for the OP and I agree with you in that regard ... the point being the venue will not make payouts until they have the requested information ...
