New account suspended for no apparent reason?

My husband and I decided to start an eBay business selling things that we have around our home that we no longer need, and we had also planned to start sourcing products to sell in our eBay store, mostly clothing and electronics.  We set up a new business eBay account this past weekend and listed about 5 or 6 items that we had in our home that we no longer need or want.  These items included clothing and electronics.  Well, this evening when I went to check to see if any of our items had any bids or if anything had sold, I immediately found that all of our listings were gone and our account had been "permanently suspended."  I couldn't believe it.  This is what it says:  "We wanted to let you know that your eBay account has been permanently suspended because of activity that we believe was putting the eBay community at risk. We understand that this must be frustrating, but this decision was not made lightly and it’s important that we keep our marketplace safe for everyone. Learn more about how and why accounts can be suspended."

 

I'm sorry, but what exactly did we do to "put the community at risk???"  All that we did was list a few items for sale and that was it.  The items that we listed were not "prohibited" from being listed on eBay.  We listed a couple of brand new pairs of shoes that my husband had and didn't fit him, some articles of clothing, and an old video game console.  How could this possibly result in our account being suspended?  I'm at a total loss here and EXTREMELY frustrated.  It took me a great deal of time to get these items listed over the weekend, and now that is all time that was totally wasted.  

 

We have no plans to sell on eBay ever again after this.  We have been loyal eBay users for 22 years and have occasionally sold items under our personal account throughout the years (although we haven't sold anything in several years) with no issues whatsoever, so this makes absolutely no sense to me.  I'm pretty peeved about this.

Sorry to hear of your situation.

 

Did you violate any rules or policies?  Do you owe any selling costs or need to reimburse Ebay any amount?  

 

Was Ebay able to verify your account information for your new business account?  Do you have more than one account with Ebay?

 

I do see one of your sellers left positive (negative) feedback and reported you to Ebay, could this have something to do with it?

Apparently, that decision's been made for you.

 

You obviously operate more than one account on eBay. Have all affiliated accounts been suspended? What about the one you're posting with? Or the "personal account" you've had for 22 years? Any word on restrictions on those accounts?

The account that I am posting from is NOT the account in question.  This is a personal account that we have had for many years and have had NO problems at all.  To the person who said that we have had "many unhappy experiences," where exactly are you getting this information from???  This is simply untrue.  If you look at the feedback from this account, it has 100% positive feedback.  The account that was suspended was a BRAND NEW business account that we had just set up a couple of days ago with the intentions of starting an eBay business.  It is in NO WAY linked to this account.  We have NO other accounts, aside from this one personal account that I am posting from, which we use only for very occasional buying and have not sold anything in many years.  This account is in perfectly good standing with NO restrictions.   If you read my original post, you would see that we violated no rules on eBay....ever...with any account.  We do not owe any fees as we have not even had the chance to sell anything......

The registered name of the member responsible for the two accounts is different? The registered addresses are different? The shipping to and from addresses are different? The telephone numbers are different? The email accounts are different? The IP addresses used to access the accounts are different? The SSN/EIN numbers of the registered users are different?

 

eBay has many ways to determine the relationship between or among accounts. If you're accessing more than one account on the same device, eBay can (and probably will) find the link between or among the accounts.

 

You stated in your opening comment that "We have been loyal eBay users for 22 years . . . " The account from which you're posting was registered with eBay in 2012. The account you started for selling purposes was "set up . . . this last weekend."

 

What's the status of the 22-year-old account?

 

Selling goods on an online marketplace platform takes a certain temperament to be successful. Judging from your posts in this thread, it might be a worthwhile activity to spend some time doing self-assessment to reflect on whether it would really be a complementary activity for you. The suspension eBay imposed may have saved a lot of grief in the long run.

If you use the same computer or internet connection on both accounts, they

 are linked and this account will probably be shut down also.

That is not true.  Chat agents apparently are required to 'end the chat' with users who are under permanent suspension.   Phone call back reps, hang up.

I'm confused as to why you would start selling on a brand new account with no feedback history rather than start selling with an established ID with history.

@tntboys08You could try sending a private message on the ebay for business facebook page and ask them to review your account. ebay does limit sellers in the number of items and/or dollar amount they can list and sell. They also require that you provide the necessary information for their Managed Payments program so you can send and receive payments to and from ebay. If the shoes were designer, ebay has their verification program.

Still, suspending your account seems excessively harsh, especially since you are new to selling. The CSR phone and chat reps won't/can't help you with this. Did they provide a link in the message for you to follow up on the suspension? I have seen several posts where sellers were shocked to find out they were blocked from selling because some person, address, or ip location had been associated with another account that had violated their rules.

Even some friend or family member logging onto their account from your computer, and were later banned or suspended, can get the same for you later. Whole dormitories have been blocked from using eBay if one person at that address got suspended or banned.

I'm inclined to think that the accounts aren't linked (at least not yet) as they typically wouldn't suspend one without the other. Also, having multiple accounts isn't against the rules, as long as you're not selling the same item on multiple stores. 

 

I've seen many reports of people having these issues with opening new accounts only to be banned lately. I'm quite curious to the reason. I can only assume it's some type of security feature, but it seems to be targeting activity that is not outside of eBay policy.

 

One concerning possibility is errors with the payment registration system, as we had issues at one point with Sellers Hub not appearing due to not being registered Managed Payments, but without Sellers Hub, there was no way to get to the Managed Payments registration page. 

 

@tntboys08 did anything happen worth noting when you registered for payments and/or with Sellers Hub appearing properly? Does your home/IP location match the one used on payments?

My post was specifically addressing whether other of the OP's accounts were linked. Period. I am all-too familiar with eBay's policy regarding multiple accounts. Since I'm fully aware that is not a violation of any eBay policy, having multiple accounts was not the point of my post. 

 

Any comments not relating to the subject addressed in my post regarding whether accounts were linked should be addressed to the OP, not to me. You can speculate all you want regarding other possibilities, but they would have nothing to do with my posts, so there would be no reason to reply to me in this thread again.
