Charging to decline an offer and charging to add the offer are somehow related I would think? Why go through multiple threads to find the next glitch OR new policy? Nice and compact all being discussed here related to Best Offer. Unless people want to read multiple and multiple threads? Not me. Charging is charging.

I don't believe "charging for refusing an offer" actually exists.

So you take it upon youself to call it out as "bogus", and then tell people they shouldn't be discussing it because YOU believe it's bogus? Really?

I said it should be in a separate thread. Not here, distracting from a documented issue. Have any of the blues bothered to respond about the fee for not including the option?

Seems a majority disagrees.

Chaos is NOT an "industry standard".

gram I figure its easier to wait for the billing cycles to come around and see if folks get some GOTCHA fees added and we'll see what the fees were for..

Re: Must use Make Offer Option !

Here is how I have gotten around it, every time you put up a new or relisted auction, a pre-done check mark will be in the "best offer box" just un click it so far it does not boom-a-rang back. So now I have to relist one at a time, so when the pop up shows up on the submit page right beside  your asking start price the clicked best offer box is there, just unclick it then hit submit. as I said so far it is not coming back it is just one more step that takes 1 second.

Lets say my competitor has the same brochure for $7.00 but charges $4.00 for shiping well thats $11.00, but I am willing to sell it to you for 9.95 with free shipping, by the way averge cost to ship a car sales brochure is pretty much under $2.00,  So your being over charged on shipping. I WILL NOT GIVE AWAY MY INVENTORY JUST TO MAKE A SALE. In the last year or so I am really makeing nothing on ebay, I need to pay for 100 relists eash month that costs $35.00 I get 50 free ones as well in a 1 month period I sell 5 brochures a month, now it seems like so that is $50, my invoice this month was $44.50 so my monthly profit for the whole month is a whoopig $5.50, but wait there is more lets say I paid $1.00 for the brochure, Now I have made 50 cents for the whole month.

My days as a seller are getting to be very numbered, as well as a  buyer I have been a seller for 20 yrs, What sticks in my craw is Ebay has no product to sell unlike the A. We the sellers own the inventory and evey year they tighten the rope a little more to where they will cut off our air completely so to speak....just my 2 cents worth, WHAT SAY YOU??.......dA nUT

Re: Must use Make Offer Option !

I could see that. But i listed the item at ebays suggested price. Then what you are saying is you get 50 free listings but rules must be followed.  Tell me why ebay can’t list all the rules so I could read them.  They just change things with no notice at all.

Your topic is misleading. You DO NOT have to make "best offer" option. What it is saying is if you do not make a best offer option, Ebay will not give you a freebie handout and make you pay to list. Maybe it will eliminate all the money grabbers who think they can list over-priced stuff that will never sell anyway. Or at least they will have to pay an insertion fee and not get a freebie.

If the freebie handouts aren't doing what eBay wants them to, then eBay should scrap the plan as ineffective.

eBay doesn't own the merchandise.

But they like to make believe they do, just like they like to make believe that they are really showing growth each quarter by only reporting the GMV which I will lay odds does not include returns because that is not the definition of Gross Market Value.   Heck they could actually be reporting the retail price of the item new, based on creative accounting 101 which seems to be back in style.

Then you either misunderstood what your buddy said, or your buddy is clueless. No one has said anything, in ANY thread, about being charged for declining an offer. And that's not what this thread is about. So please don't hijack it; start your own.

How is this a hijack? It has to do with this seemingly new unannounced practice by eBay of adding unannounced fees to promotions. If this is happening, all of the people concerned about the topic of this thread need to know about it because they're all talking about using BO to get the promo but then declining offers.

Besides, there's always a first person to sound an alarm about one of these nutty changes. No one else is talking about it...YET... would be my guess.

This sounds like another "sell your phone at a guaranteed price" type move by eBay that's just full of GOTCHAs. It seems plausible given eBay's history of making these things as confusing and restrictive as possible.

I think you owe the poster you are baselessly attacking an apology, frankly. This isn't even "your" thread!

This thread is about whether eBay is charging sellers to list/revise without including the Best Offer option. The alleged charging of fees if a seller REFUSES an offer should be on its own thread.

From what I had read it is actually the same thing as this seems to be effecting those that get the 50 free listings each month.  So evidently if you do not include BO in your listing Ebay may, and probably will, charge  the seller $.35 which is the currently listing price.  But evidently if the seller does put OBO in the listing if they decline a lowball offer, then Ebay is once again charging the $.35 listing fee.

I would be curious to see if Ebay has also programmed those with stores listings to use up one of their monthly free listings if they refuse an offer.  I can actually see Ebay doing this as they are desperate to show growth any way possible.

Re: Must use Make Offer Option !

They should definitely let you know in advance. I recently went to make another listing and I disabled the "Make an offer" option. After that, it told me what yours said, but it also said the fee is $0.35! I went to check my listings that were already up on Ebay, and they said the same thing! I wonder how long this has been going on for...

So... Ebay is basically saying "take less, or pay." That's how I'm thinking of it. Most of the offers I receive are close to nothing to what I had in mind, so that's why I  used to disabled that option, until now...

Why is Ebay forcing us to do that? And I thought their fees were a hassle...

Sorry to have to say it this way, but Welcome to Ebay, the site with the most glitches that sellers must find a workaround to and never ending changes without announcing them.  I guess they just cannot wait for this to take effect and make the announcement in the Fall Seller Update.

Ebay has already jumped to needing 3 Seller Updates this year, but in reality needs to just issue monthly or maybe even daily updates with all the unannounced Changes they keep throwing out at the sellers.

Ebay's CEO has actually coined a phrase for what is happening so Ebay can say they knew this would happen.  Its called "Disruptive Technology" and is the CEO's mantra that he plans on taking with him when he joins the GM BOD.  Anybody that is planning on buying a GM might want to get it now before he joins the BOD and he spreads his "Disruptive Technology" to their computers and programming based on the results we are having to deal with.

Re: Must use Make Offer Option !

I haven't personally heard that one from Devin Wenig, the current CEO, but back in 2008 or 2009, then CEO John Donahoe came up with "disruptive innovation". Based on the transcript of the Q2 earnings call, Wenig gave the impression that they were trying to make their changes while creating as little disruption as possible to users who are used to the old ways, but still staying their course.

Based on what we've seen in just the last few months however, the disruption is still going full steam ahead.

@hioctane62

Here is one example of him using it.

eBay CEO Devin Wenig was appointed to the board of General Motors. The company said he brings his “significant expertise in technology, global operations and strategic planning” to the board.

Wenig tweeted the news, saying his professional passion was the application of disruptive technology to drive positive change and help people, and he noted that the transportation sector was going through enormous changes.

Here is the article link where his appointment to the GM BOARD was announced.  With things as bad as they are at Ebay you would think he should be spending more time working on Ebays problems rather than GM's problems!!

Yeah... now that I see it, I remember reading that exact article back in April, including his "personal passion" of disruptive technology. New name, same game.
