Lying Buyers

Hello there,

I've never posted here before but I'd like some feedback. What do you all do when a buyer lies on you? For example, a buyer sent me receipt and a picture of the item they bought from me but then said to Ebay that they haven't received there package.

Re: Lying Buyers

AFTER RE-ENTERING A TRACKING NUMBER INTO A CASE IF THE BUYER FILES ONE HERE ON YOU.  Regarding picture of item that they sent, so that means they got the item correct? So are you saying they are showing you the package but say it’s not what you sent them INSIDE THE PACKAGE? Confusing.

As said, if tracking shows delivered/.....you have no problem......

But I would caution against declaring a buyer a liar because they say they haven't received it......in the few NR cases I've had......on some, a family member got the item and put it somewhere and forgot to tell the buyer.....also, even tho tracking shows delivered......carriers can/do misdeliver to a wrong address......

Yes that’s is very true. Poster could tell buyer to ask relatives etc if they took the item out of package.

Re: Lying Buyers

You have tracking uploaded and also posted in the open case, you should be all good.

Be sure to add them to your block list.

I would hesitate to block them until after this situation is resolved, though, since eBay now prevents any communication with blocked members.  Just in case.

Re: Lying Buyers

Ebay should make that a rule ... no lying.

Things would be so much better.

Re: Lying Buyers

the post is overall iffy. The O.P. does not supply full details.

If there is an actual case open by the buyer, I don't think blocking the buyer will affect any decision eBay makes in the open case. I believe the buyer and seller can respond within the case.

My overall opinion is this after reading the post over a few times.

1.  a buyer sent me receipt and a picture of the item they bought from me. Pretty easy to do. Cut and paste and send.

2. then said to Ebay that they haven't received their package.  What does tracking show?

Re: Lying Buyers

In the past year or so I had to refund buyers because they opened claims saying that they didn't recieve.  In all instances they ended up getting their items 2 weeks later.  So the buyers got their money back and their items.  I am blaming USPS and Ebay's ground advantage. Never had this happen before and I am a seller since 1999. Ebay does not side with the sellers.  I ended up blocking the buyers too.

For a seller that is the easiest type of claim to win as long as you ship with tracking.  If the tracking shows delivered, then the buyer is very unlikely to win an INR.  You can also submit the email you got from the buyer noting their pics showing they received the item.

Of all the type of cases a seller might get.  The one you describe is the easiest.

As a seller, just do your best to ignore the fact the buyer lied.  These are NOT personal transactions, they are business transaction.  It is not personal, don't take it personally.  You are allowing them to upset you when they know absolutely nothing about you.  Why would you allow them that kind of power over you??

@theaboo1961

Just a little FYI, Ground Advantage is a shipping method offered by USPS.  Ebay didn't create it nor do they manage it.

Seems you have just likely been lucky and didn't have INRs.  Most sellers deal with them from time to time.

When an INR is opened, Ebay will allow the case to remain open as long as there is some kind of movement on the tracking within the past 7 days.

The best protection for a seller when a buyer files an INR and the package has not yet arrived is to do the following.

  1. Upload the tracking number to the INR the buyer opened.
  2. Go to the USPS site and call up the tracking number to view the tracking.
  3. From that page  sign up for email updates for any entry made to the tracking.  Oddly enough often this simple act gets the package moving.  I do not know why, but it happens more times than not.
  4. Go to the link below and file a Trace on the package.

https://usps.my.site.com/emailus/s/package-inquiry

Then inside the case, send the buyer an email letting them know what you have done in an effort to get that package moving and let them know that you will keep them informed as you see movement.

Once a case is opened, make sure any communication with your buyer you may have, you do it from inside the Claim so that all info is in one place for Ebay.

Usually the combination of those actions will get the package moving and delivered to the buyer.  In the case that it doesn't, then yes Ebay will require a refund to the buyer.

Now you may have recourse against USPS because of the lost package, with Ground Advantage comes $100 worth of insurance.  So you file a claim with USPS to get your costs refunded to you.

Also because you signed up for email updates to the tracking, if the package ever does end up getting delivered, you will be notified.  If Ebay forced the INR refund, you can now notify Ebay that the item was received, appeal the case, and Ebay will likely refund you.

The protections for INRs are really good for sellers.  You just need to know what your rights are.  But INRs are not even remotely like the INADs that have very little protection for sellers.

Re: Lying Buyers

the tracking showing it arrived is helpful.  I have had people tell me they received the box with nothing in it. I record my packaging of anything more than 400$ because of the this.  I show fully continuity with the label on the box from wrapping to sealing and the box details etc.  it has been very useful to send the video to ebay when there is an issue.

Re: Lying Buyers

Ebay never looks at videos of what was sent or what was received. That proves nothing, they can be doctored.

Ebay eventually ended up calling me and actually laughed at the issue. They said, "you wouldn't believe how many times this happens, but you have nothing to worry about." I'm not one to go out of my way and call someone a liar, but I am when I know I'm a good person and would never screw anyone over an item they bought from me.

@mandadbaker1993 : Your post from last month has resurfaced here for some reason, so since we're looking at it again: was the case resolved in your favor? I was wondering, as I read it, whether the buyer meant to have opened a Not As Described claim for some reason instead.

Speaking of which, I should point out that your listing for a Checkered Vans 7.5 shoe shows its sizes as 7.5 Mens or 9.0 Womens in your photos, but in your description you have it as 6.0 Mens or 7.5 Womens, so you might want to fix that.
