I recently got a sale from a brand new user. I have not shipped the item yet. I took a look at the address first and noticed it was going to shall we say a pretty ritzy neighborhood. So I googled the name and area and got a journalist. I have no idea if this person is the one I sold the item to but the item I sold is sometimes used politically. The particular reporter with the same name has written a couple articles(3 I've found so far)about something related to the item. I have been attacked on Ebay before by an animal rights group. That turned out to be quite an organized effort starting on a news website. This latest sale made me wonder if something was going on. I sold the item kind of pricey. Granted anyone living at the address could afford it. Should i trust my gut instincts and try to back out of the sale or roll the dice? I don't sell anything political really. I sell Halloween props. When in doubt, pull out?

THIS IS EBAY.
YOU SELL AND THEY BUY WITH MONEY.
YOU STOP YABBERING AND SHIP WITHOUT TRYING TO DECYPER WHO THE ARE OR WHAT THEIR INTENTIONS ARE. that's none of your business, your business is to sell and ship when people pay you.

Another private eye. If you get paid send the item. You came on-line to sell things and that is how it works.

You can't discriminate with buyers before or after they've made the purchase. How would you like it if you walked into a store and the owner or salesperson decided they didn't want to sell to you based on what you looked like or what you wear????
By selling your item, you agreed to a contract to sell it to them once you receive payment.
If the buyer doesn't pay or there are problems later on, then deal with them then.

You are creating your own problems... just ship the item!

Wasn't the shipping method already shown in the listing, as well as the estimated delivery date?
Nothing you have posted here makes it clear to me why you expect this transaction to be a possible problem.

Buyer paid - you ship. So says eBay.
No offense meant but ............
I find it a tad concerning and unusual that you would google the buyer's address then assume the financial standing of the buyer. He could be renting a room there. Do you do that will all of your buyers?
I live way below my means by choice. Always have. I intend to share what I worked for all my life with my children and grandchildren. People often treat a person a lot different if they think you have a bit of money.
Please, ship the item to your buyer. Several days ago you voiced angst over lack of sales. Give thanks for buyers. They help pay the bills.

Just because a buyer has no feedback does not mean they are a new ebayer. Some users want no internet footprint and value privacy.
If I were to google an address and find out it's a 5 bedroom home worth 500K I'd breath a sigh of relief, it's the shacks that would worry me.

The listings of his that I browsed at random all offered Free Standard Shipping (no exact method specified), so the OP has given himself some leeway to pick whichever method within the Standard Shipping group (UPS Ground, USPS First Class, FedEx Ground or FedEx Home Delivery) would be the best choice for him.

Think that research was part of deciding which method of shipping would be the best choice for him?"

I've wanted to conduct such a social experiment to see how well I'd be treated in a higher end department store looking like trash. But I don't have appropriate clothes/make up to play such a part...
I did go into a Hudson's Bay store in Hamilton, Ontario a few years ago (where a lot of poor people in this area live) dressed in my gym wear (which could be mistaken for street walker wear...) The Christian Dior cosmetic counter agent was treating me like I was too poor to spend $70 on a foundation. I only went in person to get the colour right, you can't try it on when it's an online purchase. Anyway I shut her up when I pulled out my gold card to pay for the purchase.

Of course not; I was just answering the question that was asked by @soh.maryl.

I honestly feel you are over thinking this.
He / she probably just wanted something nicer than the mass produced garbage that you can buy any and everywhere right now. Instead you could feel flattered that they like your work instead of feeling suspicious.
People come to ebay for the unusual, artist made, one of a kind, odd ball, unique stuff. They probably use Amazon for everything else they buy online.
Since the pandemic hit i get new zero feedback customers buying daily and some are old returning ebayers actually because its been YEARS since they purchased and its just easier to set up a new account as they have a new address, new bank details, new email, cant remember their years old login info, got married had a couple of kids since their crazy days on ebay buying Hot Wheels cars etc etc.
You are displaying sellers remorse and doing the 'what if' scenario based on assumptions.
The only way to vet customers before hand is to join a club or private community where you know everyone and also know their morals and values
...did you price it too high and are worried about the feedback or a return or something?
Good luck to you, i hope it all works out for you

I just have to add my 2 cents to that. Ex BF of mine had just gotten a divorce and his half of the proceeds from a townhome they owned. He decided to buy a Porsche so went to the dealership to test drive one. (Disclaimer, this was the late 70's and he is Mexican). They would NOT let him test drive the cars! Instead of getting mad, he just started pulling out hundred dollar bills from his pockets and asked them to let him know when he had enough to just buy the dang thing.
What I loved the most is that the sales guy got NO commision. It was a great car too, a bright yellow 911.
