My nephew recently listed 3 items for sale, and ebay immediately removed them. He received a message that his account was suspended with no explanation why. The message did list 4 or 5 possible reasons why the action was taken, but none of them applied to him. He has done nothing wrong and his account shows a zero balance. We have tried numerous ways to reach someone to find out exactly why this was done, but hit a dead end every time. It isn't fair to suspend an account without at least letting a seller know exactly what happened to cause this action. Seems like a poor way to do business when a company this size has an unreachable Customer Service Department. Does anyone know how to reach an actual human being so this matter can be resolved?

Hi, i would connect with eBay thru their social media platform on Facebook for Business page. Send a PM with the outline of your issue.

I used to think this until my Daughter when she turned 18 opened her own ebay account, she had never had a account before and had zero interest in selling on ebay, before she ever bought 1 single item her account was closed and she was told that for "the good of the ebay community" she would never be allowed to have even a ebay buying account. She did live with us and I have a couple accounts and my wife has 1 but they are and have always been in good standing.
Ebay refused to say why they did this.
Don't feel bad, ebay also closed a new account I tried to open...and I'm in perfect standing with them.
What bothers me the most is that despite being top rated for over a decade, ebay still never told me why.
If ebay had any communication skills whatsoever, I could've simply remedied whatever problem they thought the saw with the account...
So here I am in ebay's eyes...a veteran TRS with a 0% defect rate on this account...and on my 2nd account I'm a identified as a "risk to the ebay community".
Only in ebay's twisted world could this happen. So once again, I believe the OP is telling the truth and ebay is at fault.

My thinking is that it is a totally automated process that is never looked at by humans, this is exactly why you do not want to bank at a large bank, something goes wrong and the machinery of the process takes over and no one is capable or willing to fix the problem.

Yup, alienating honest people in an attempt to prevent fraud in not a successful business practice.

This is what they listed as POSSIBLE reasons for holds, restrictions, or suspensions:
The reason I'm inquiring about this is because my nephew has been locked out of his account completely. He can't sell or buy anything.

Thank you! We will try that.

What does "a risk to the ebay community" even mean? With the amount of money they make from sellers, seems like they could hire a few people and get a good Customer Service Department that could explain some of these statements. In the meantime, they're cutting off income on a whim from good, honest people that really need it.

It means that eBay has analyzed millions of sellers and billions of transactions and come up with a list of characteristics that statistically correlate with returns, refunds, cancellations, disputes, and fraud.
Then eBay applied all that analysis and all those statistics to your account, and decided that your account is statistically likely to have issues.

@rice.pudding812 : What were the items he was trying to sell?

I'm sure he is giving me the entire story. He is a Christian and has no reason to lie or omit information. It was a new account and he did everything ebay instructed him to do. On January 12th, he received a message from ebay that he was all set and to start selling. His father (my brother) died a few months ago and was a collector of men's high end fragrances. He wanted to sell the cologne and give the proceeds to his church, so he listed 3 brands of cologne as soon as he got the okay to do so.

I'm sorry, I should have said "no valid reason," and definitely not a particular incident. The possible reasons were:
Also, everyone in our family is in good standing with ebay.

We have been trying to reach the people who did this, but they are not reachable.

I would welcome any assistance for a resolution. Thank you!

Looks like he owes Ebay Money............You have eBay selling costs to pay
and perhaps never signed up correctly for Managed Payments ....We couldn't verify your account information

Thanks for your message. However, we did get as far as requesting a callback, and a window popped up that said the service was no longer available. I also sent a message to the email address provided by the online assistant explaining the problem, and when I hit "send," I immediately got a message that read, " We are not able to process your message now! Please contact ebay Customer Service. " Every path we've followed took us in circles and back to where we started from.
