How can I find out why an account was suspended?

My nephew recently listed 3 items for sale, and ebay immediately removed them. He received a message that his account was suspended with no explanation why. The message did list 4 or 5 possible reasons why the action was taken, but none of them applied to him. He has done nothing wrong and his account shows a zero balance. We have tried numerous ways to reach someone to find out exactly why this was done, but hit a dead end every time. It isn't fair to suspend an account without at least letting a seller know exactly what happened to cause this action. Seems like a poor way to do business when a company this size has an unreachable Customer Service Department. Does anyone know how to reach an actual human being so this matter can be resolved?

What were the Items?

Was this on a new or old account? Any previous selling on that account?

Did you nephew complete the Managed Payments registration?

Are you sure he is telling you the entire story?

First you said no explanation given and  then in the next breath you said 4 or 5 possible reasons given.

What were the 4 or 5 possible reasons?

Some people who have not violated policy get suspended when a family member or someone eBay links them to gets suspended.

Ask the person (or people) who suspended it.

eBay doesn't give exact specifics because they're afraid people will figure out how to circumvent it (I find that unnecessarily paranoid, but I don't run the place).

Can you list the 'possible reasons'?  Communications aren't always very clear in these cases and we may be able to assist in unraveling it.

Why is he not asking the question? How will he ever learn if you take care of his issues?

If the nephew's account was NARU'd, then he can't use it to log on to the community to ask for himself. Perhaps he is taking seriously the rule against making or using another account in this situation.

I used to think this until my Daughter when she turned 18 opened her own ebay account, she had never had a account before and had zero interest in selling on ebay, before she ever bought 1 single item her account was closed and she was told that for "the good of the ebay community" she would never be allowed to have even a ebay buying account. She did live with us and I have a couple accounts and my wife has 1 but they are and have always been in good standing.

Ebay refused to say why they did this.

Good morning @rice.pudding812 ,

I read your post and all the replies.  At this juncture we will not be able to assist until more information is shared with The Community.

Suspended accounts are handled by eBay's Trust and Safety Department, NOT a regular CSR.  Your nephew can use the Help and Contact link at the bottom of this page and pursue a path that will allow him  to Request a call back.

Please note: You will not be able to resolve anything for your nephew, he will have to speak with eBay.  eBay will NOT speak to you in any detail about his account, its their policy.

Prior to doing that I would encourage you to pursue more insight here ...

Regards,

prisons are loaded with people that don't know what they did.

Apparently your nephew doesn't want to tell you the real reason so I would back off real fast before it causes problems with your own account and let him fend for himself.

It isn't fair to suspend an account without at least letting a seller know exactly what happened to cause this action.

When you and your nephew joined eBay, you both acknowledged an eBay user agreement that said this:

"we reserve the right to refuse, modify, or terminate all or part of our Services to anyone for any reason at our discretion"

That aside ...

You claim they did not tell you the reason, but you also say that eBay actually gave several  that you don't think apply to your nephew.

If you are not willing to share that list of reasons, there is really no point in having us try to guess what those reasons might have been. And I suspect one of the reasons eBay gave probably did apply to your nephew - you may not have stepped back far enough to objectively try to understand why.

I had a similar thing happen to my Google ad account.  I just woke up one morning and it had been suspended.  No reason given.  Customer service said they couldn't tell me why or do anything about it.

I think these companies like to err on the extreme side of caution.  They can afford to do it because they are huge and the few people who get screwed over don't matter.

Ebay's new year resolution is to restrict and suspend as many sellers as they can. It seems they are cleaning house the past couple months.

Could it be because his account was suspended...

When ebay suspended a new account I opened I could no longer log into it.
