Anyone else feeling the slow down in September? I usually get at least 2-3 orders per day... Now crickets for the last 10 days...Very weird, also I usually get a lot of watchers, views on my items but this month it seems to very low count.

@laststopgeneralstore wrote:I don't have to promote my listings if I don't want to but I choose to for the extra traffic. Whether that traffic converts or not, depends on the customer, not eBay. I will bookmark this thread and will be happy to visit it again in a few years. By then my store will be much larger and sales will be flowing like they have in the past and now. Don't expect to get consistent traffic or consistent sales if you yourself aren't being consistent. The last time you listed was July 5th, over 60 days ago.
Also, their are a lot of great sellers out their that aren't getting low sales and are up year over year and have been for quite some time. Sales may be down, yes, but just because you had a bad weekend or bad week doesn't mean that everything is crashing. I very rarely get the same amount of sales every single day but at the end of the month it averages out.
Good luck.
You really cant use the appearance of my current selling/listing numbers as a gauge for why I posted what I did...Though in fact it is a great current gauge...It shows exactly where I am with ebay right now...you just have to know the background...I simply refuse to hand over soooo much of my hard earned money to a company that for all appearances sake has so little concern for their customers.
Ive sold on ebay since 2003 and from 2003 to 2009 sold Millions of Dollars in Comic Books... I quit when they went to best match search and went back to work as sales manager for several years...Got a new account going and did 6 figure sales up until 2-3 years ago when they started the Promoted Listings program... Saw the writing on the wall and took a part-time job as a UPS Supervisor to hedge my selling knowing what promoted listings would do to this site over the longer term. Gradually reduced my listing to the point where you see it now.
Though I have a HUGE stock of collectibles(cards, comics, action figures, video games etc, etc) time is on my side - Money is not an issue for me like it is for many who sell here and my inventory will only continue to increase in value on average. Its money in the bank for me...
What I do know is that the terrain will look a lot different 5 to 10 years from now - there will be new and exciting options available and the online selling sites that undervalued their customers will be pleading to have them back - hopefully for their sake, not having waited too long to make the turnaround...
I will not give what they are asking of my profit to continue putting forth the effort and it will only get worse before it gets better...
Dont get me wrong, I have a fondness for ebay kinda like a good marriage gone bad...this last couple years is another separation... For me, they have been digging too deep for too long and its become a matter of principle... I hope ebay comes out on top 5 years from now, and we patch things up so I can sell off my valuable inventory right here... but I guarantee you it wont be because they kept digging... We'll see how it plays out...
And Good Luck to you and all of us here.

Same. I was doing well in August (surprisingly as it is usually my slowest month) but since September hit, crickets. I'm really worried. I'm wondering what Ebay is doing in the background because I discovered my item location was wrong in the majority of my listings. I hadn't changed anything so that was weird.

@chapeau-noir wrote:My sales are on the uptick since I'm listing more - that's the biggest determining factor for me, is how consistently I list (and in my market, am I listing in season).
Yep, I went a week or so without listing anything new and saw an immediate drop in sales. I started listing again the other day, and boom, got some sales.

Interesting... I had been listing games only last few days and most of my listings are cards, so all I've sold recently for 95 percent of sold items is games. The algorithm of getting sales more based on listing seems to be tied ti not just when you listed last but most likely what kind of listings and possibly how much listed at the time? It would make sense, I thought something odd was going on, but this could be why...

Same here

I am in the same boat as you ringleader, but I read where another top seller points to inconsistencies in our approach to selling and how to generate new business. Apparently they are doing exceptionally well...? I see those kinds of self-centered points of view across Amazon as well. And I have to say that is so shallow. First of all our propensity for sales depends entirely on our specific type and make of inventory and the condition we sell it in (and the type of manpower we have). This is not a cookie-cutter approach. As someone who started with a PS3 console that was given to me 7 years ago (at the time I was 57 and did not even know how to power it on 🙂 and just 3 years later crossed over into the 6 figures in sales with a 100% Positive Feedback, as well as having many years of experience as a National Sales Trainer over 2000 individuals, and as well succeeding as a Million Dollar Executive Recruiter....you cannot summarize or project to another top seller in an entirely different market what they should probably do to get their sales up. The market demographics, technology, and economy change and fluctuate over time and it affects each seller and their market individually. And our personal lives and situations are also constantly fluctuating as well. But from what I read in your message and your accomplishments you are definitely someone who deserves all of our respect and admiration...

same here very quiet at the moment, normally the kids going back to school after the holidays means sales pick up slowly to christmas

My sales have slowed down slightly. The items that are selling are mostly lower value items. A sale is a sale, and I am appreciative of any sale.
It might be the uncertainty of the economy, back to school time and parents are tapped out, inflation, I don't know. But would be nice to have one of my big ticket items sell occasionally.

Sales are down here also but our traffic is doing well. We are in one of those down cycles right now that will eventually pass. With the holidays on the horizon sales should pick up for us sellers.

I hope your right as a lot of sellers have been WAY down since May from what i have been reading here on the boards

Promoted sales gave you an advantge when they first came out. But when everyone is using them, now the advantage is gone and we are all stuck paying extra commissions for nothing. It just in effect raised the cost of doing business on Ebay. Every year my taxman looks at Ebay sales, he remarks how I am paying them so much. My profit margin on other platforms is much higher. I would say if you want to make some real money, buy Ebay stock.

Yes. Sales were up dramatically in mid July through August. Since September, it has been very slow. I am still listing everyday but the views/visits on my items has been much less. I feel it will turn around in mid Ocotber til mid January. I just have to keep listing and hope for the best.

Sold millions of dollars on Ebay. The last month I'm lucky to get 2 sales a day. Decided to close one of my warehouses today. Will start to liquidate inventory on other platforms. I feel like an idiot for building a business on a platform that can arbitrarily shut my sales off at will. Time to leave Ebay and start a new business. I'll also never buy anything on Ebay again.
