I think in my short time on eBay I have run across about 10 to 20 customers who have done this, and only one of them (a repeat buyer) has bought an item after I have painstakingly looked through my inventory just to give them precise measurements of something that they will never buy.
I stopped taking measurements of items about halfway into my first 1,000 listings, because it was slowing me down too much and was causing me to lose motivation in listing items.

Don't know what type of things you are talking about, but measurements can be important to people.....especially on clothes/purses etc.
What you may be saving in time, could be costing you in sales. No way to tell how tall that blue "etched" vase is........ Could be 3" or 10" tall.........I would want to know before I bought.....

Can't relate. Did you know that some of Dali's most famous paintings are about 6 inches wide?
People should enjoy surprises.

Yes. Buyers have purchased after asking multiple questions about measurements, including and not limited to thickness and depth. Measurements are important for many folks, including me when I purchase. I cannot buy a pair of pants, a dog sweater or a painting without knowing measurements or perhaps even the weight of the item.
In fact, if I am looking to buy something on ebay and the seller doesn't include measurements I just move right on by unless it is so unique that it warrants me taking my valuable time to ask a question to a seller who may or may not answer.

The customers to which you refer probably didn't buy after you gave them measurements because they realized the item would not fit. Sizes are so wonky these days. Even the same size in the same brand will fit differently.
It's up to you whether you take the time to list measurements but I think you are setting yourself up for extra returns because somebody will buy a certain size without asking the measurements and it won't fit when they receive it. And a lot of buyers will just go right on by a listing if it doesn't include measurements and they don't want to be bothered to have to ask the seller.

Not trying to be rude but what exactly is not going to fit where? 🤣 In most cases these people are asking questions on figurines.

In most cases these people are asking questions on figurines.............so they either want a small one or they want a big one.........and your answers didn't fit their "want"......... if you had the measurements or at least a size comparison in a picture (a soup can/apple), they'd have an idea of what size it was.....and wouldn't be bothering you with the question.

Sorry, I don't buy it.

Sorry, I don't buy it.
Neither did they....

You think those 10 paragraphs by AI are a better idea than offering measurements? You have quite the attitude about some things.
10-25-2024 04:54 PM
Wait, what? You stopped taking measurements when listing because it was slowing you down, and now you have a bunch of potential customers slowing you down asking for measurements? Go figure.

How long does it take to measure a figurine?

Has a customer ever bought something from you after asking you what the measurements of the item are
@iamcara
Actually, I include size (all item appropriate measurements i.e. length, width, height, gram weight, etc.) in my listings. Also included is the "material", hallmarks or trademarks, and mention and picture ANYTHING that makes the item "not mint". So I don't have to provide what is already there.
Occasionally, I will get some silly messages/questions "How tall is your 4.5" vase?" These, however, are very rare. Though I no longer sell here, I did for over 24 years, and not only do you not list measurements, you don't even describe the item at hand. You might just increase your sales if you started, but of course, to each his own.
Good luck selling!

I try to include a measurement of some kind in my listings. But I still get questions sometimes, even when I clearly show a measuring stick. I guess it's not always enough.

This might be the least of your problems if you fail to do something about that so called Norman Rockwell picture you have listed for over $300 thousand.
You were just on the Collectibles-Art board inquiring about this around Oct 16th roughly.
You have absolutely no proof that this is a genuine Norman Rockwell but it's in your title as such. The words likely in his style in your description is not going to cut it.
A mentor replied to your post and told you the ramifications of listing this picture as genuine in the title with no proof, gut feelings don't count.
This is a fraudulent listing and you didn't do your research correctly AI won't save this one.
