Got a defect because Post Office

I understand why so many sellers are furious with the eBay system of punishing sellers who do their job of shipping on time only to be deemed DEFECTIVE because the item arrived ONE DAY after the estimated delivery date because the USPS could not handle the holiday shipping volume.  This is the USPS not delivering.

WT....??????

How is this my fault????????????

I resent being labeled DEFECTIVE because the post office did not do their job of delivering according to eBay's estimates.

 if the PO delivers late

This has NOTHING to do with the USPS, they didn't make a guarantee of delivery, they didn't deliver late. They do not guarantee delivery time unless you use Priority Mail express and I assume you didn't. You are making promises for the USPS that they won't even make - how is that a good idea?  So, yeah, the fault lies with you... and eBay's estimate. Everyone knows at Christmas time delivery can take longer.

Also there was a weekend in there....  our PO is only open a couple of hours on Saturday morning and no mail on Sunday. So it was really only 4 full working days until it was delivered, which seems rather quick at Christmas time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was being facetious and sarcastic.
Everybody knows:  nobody controls the post office - the PO does not guarantee delivery of any item, except maybe Expedited Overnight.  And that depends upon the time of day you get it to the post office.
Everybody knows:  eBay delivery estimates are just that - estimates - and don't mean doodlie squat to the USPS.  Delivery estimates mean a lot to buyers, especially this time of year.  Delivery estimates can affect your account whether you opt into a program or not.  Miss a few estimated delivery dates and see what happens to your account.
No need to be mean and say I am at fault because I shipped an order exactly as I promised.  For almost 17 years I have always, always shipped orders the same day or next morning.  How is that wrong?
My local post office is open 6 days a week.  They work 7 days a week during the holiday season.  The door is always unlocked so customers can safely deposit outgoing mail and packages into interior bins.  USPS carriers are busy delivering mail here every day - even on Sunday - since Thanksgiving.  Sorry your post office does not offer the same level of service.
The US has an outstanding postal delivery system and we are blessed to have so many dedicated workers.  Sorting facilities get overwhelmed this time of year, carriers spend extra time delivering the volume, vehicle accidents happens.  So yes, estimated delivery dates don't always happen.
Have a nice holiday season.
Amazon can guarantee the item because they posess it. They can guarantee the delivery because they control the company that delivers it.
eBay wants to be Amazon so they copy their polices. No skin off their nose. When the inevitable SNAFU comes up, they'll just force the seller to pay up.
@ gramophone
It doesn't help that eBay commercials are running on every spot, pushing this guaranteed delivery program, but they fail to even put in fine print (unless it's so fine I can't see it) that it is on select items by select sellers only.  Every time I see this commercial, I want to yell at the TV because, being a seller, I know this to be on the border of false advertising for eBay, and is giving buyers false expectations.
Thank you for understanding. Hopefully more buyers will follow suit.
@ thatsallfolks
Yep, that's what I was dinged for - late carrier scan (not late shipment, as I mis-spoke earlier). But 8 of those made my overall shipping percentages fall a bit, and not that I needed to worry, but if it happened several times, it could have cost my TRS status.
IMHO...if ebay were the "high tech" company (cough, cough) it claims to be, why couldn't it add 1-2 days to delivery times for the holidays?
I KNOW!!!...I KNOW!!!...because ebay exists in a perfect, dream world.
...not the real one in which those miserable sellers are forced to live.
Plus, it would be forced to admit that the 3 Day Guarantee is the joke it really is.
You obviously did not get an acceptance scan within your handling time AND the buyer marked "no" in that portion of feedback.
Which sellers are still unhappy, even though sellers are in total control of ALL SELLER METRICS?
I am.
And somehow I don't feel I am in "total control" of the USPS.
For the last 3 months I have had no problems with getting Acceptance/Received/In-the-Hands-of scans upon pick-up.  I use a scan sheet even if I have only one package.
On Monday the sub/new/temp carrier on my route failed to properly scan my scan sheet.
The first scan 2 of my packages (one 1st class, one priority) received were at the main PO in my city between 1AM and 3:30AM.  The. Next. Day.
So now I must depend on the USPS getting my packages into buyer hands very quickly to avoid  "late shipment" dings.  I'm very low volume, and even 2 dings could push me near the brink of losing my TRS+ status.
Could I have had "total control" on Monday  by standing in line at my branch PO for 30-45 minutes to hand my packages to a counter clerk (dropped off packages at my branch are not scanned until they reach the main PO).  Yes, I suppose so.  Is that a definition of "total control"--spending 20-40 minutes in line every time I need to mail a package?
 You are accountable to ebay.  You gave up the total control you did possess when you chose to reject your option to stand in line to get the one thing that gives you a silver bullet no matter anything else that happens. That is on you, not on ebay or USPS.
Your reaction does not change the fact that all seller metrics are within the total control of the seller.
To expect every seller to stand in line at the PO is flat out silly and flat out dumb. There are many acceptable ways to mail a package. Not to mention there are sellers who cannot get to the PO without an act of Congress to get it done. What is not silly is to expect the shipping service to do their job and scan packages.
Hi @jason_incognito, I'd like to mention how we (eBay) take care of buyers on a seller's behalf when an item has handling time Guaranteed Delivery. If the seller gets an acceptance scan in their stated handling time and the item is still delivered late, we will refund the buyers shipping cost or pay for a return shipping label if they want to return it. If the seller offered free shipping and the buyer wants to keep the item, we'll give them a $5 eBay voucher. You can read all the details about the Guaranteed Delivery program here
I can't believe that sellers haven't figured this one out yet.
I set ALL my shipments to economy, you have 10 days for it to deliver.
Even if i intend on shipping priority.  Then buyer is delighted all my shipments
are before the time set and they get the shipping they actually paid for.
You will get no defects on anything.
Thanks to all for replying.
I opted into the 1 day handling only of the guaranteed delivery program.
Here's the order info:
Buyer payment received at 7:38 PM on Dec 4.
USPS scanned first class package at 11:07 AM Dec 5.  (1 day handling)
USPS tracking confirms package delivered Dec 11.
Buyer did not claim as late delivery.
My dashboard under late delivery shows just a red dot under the post office delivery position.  Nothing under buyer.
Called eBay this morning and was told too bad - the defect stays.
What a load of ...................!!!  Yepper, I am furious.  I resent being labeled DEFECTIVE because the post office did not do their job of delivering according to eBay's estimates.  How is this my fault?
I just opted out of guaranteed delivery and changed my shipping to economy 1 - 10 days.  How are we supposed to protect our accounts?  If you look at my feedback you will see almost every buyer mentions my fast shipping.
Opt out, your basically saying you control USPS, when you don't.
Drop the package in the self serv kiosk thing and that counts as acceptance scan, but you cant get the label online then.  If you're really worried about the accpetance scan, consider this at least. When you pay at the machine, you got your scan, you just have to put in the tracking info manually from your recepit.
Yes me too. I dont even tell them it's shipping out the same day, but if something goes wrong you have a little slack in the system. They have the tracking info anyway, they see it coming. But getting it sooner than expected is better than all of the risk associated with all of Ebay's experiments with AI, "Guaranteed Shipping", estmated dates etc.  They will get it very soon, I know that for a fact but you can't always predict it to within 24 hours regardless of when you ship. Only a fool thinks they can do that. A lot of things can push it back a day or too.
Risk reward. You are trading off sales for safety.
You ARE losing some sales when buyers see the eBay warning about handling time and expected delivery dates. Some of the buyers that pass you didn't want anyway (the ones that have to have it yesterday), but even moderate buyers (myself included) might go on to the next seller when faced with the delivery estimates we would see (depending on the item - most stuff I don't care when it arrives).
