I understand why so many sellers are furious with the eBay system of punishing sellers who do their job of shipping on time only to be deemed DEFECTIVE because the item arrived ONE DAY after the estimated delivery date because the USPS could not handle the holiday shipping volume. This is the USPS not delivering.

Dugg - your opinion has value and I appreciate hearing it.
I believe much of the eBay hype encourages unrealistic expectations in buyers.
The good thing for me is my buyer was completely happy with her purchase and has no quibble about the post office delaying delivery.
Since the defect damage has already been done to my account, should I contact my buyer and tell her to complain so she gets the $5 eBay coupon? Isn't that part of the guaranteed delivery program?

I have absolutely no idea. I am just imagining an Ebay-esque scenario. You would THINK that an acceptance scan would insulate a seller from a late ding, but opting into GD might, in Ebay's little mind, mean that the seller is costing them money if the PO delivers late, so therefore that nasty little seller deserves a slap.
Then again I could be totally off base lol

Called eBay this morning and was told too bad - the defect stays.
Did you make your case that you met the Acceptance Scan requirement? If not, i'd call back and do so.
If you only argued that "it's usps's fault", I'm sure they deny that one all day every day.

I resent being labeled DEFECTIVE because the post office did not do their job of delivering according to eBay's estimates.

This has NOTHING to do with the USPS, they didn't make a guarantee of delivery, they didn't deliver late. They do not guarantee delivery time unless you use Priority Mail express and I assume you didn't. You are making promises for the USPS that they won't even make - how is that a good idea? So, yeah, the fault lies with you... and eBay's estimate. Everyone knows at Christmas time delivery can take longer.
Also there was a weekend in there.... our PO is only open a couple of hours on Saturday morning and no mail on Sunday. So it was really only 4 full working days until it was delivered, which seems rather quick at Christmas time.
There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility. Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy and a tragedy.

This is exactly why I opted out of GD program, even though I usuall ship within 24 hours. I had tested a few items, and one week in, 8 late shipment dings because the PO didn't do their job. I find it a little more than coincidental that in the previous 10 months, I've had absolutely no issues with the PO UNTIL I signed up for GD on those items.

Why do I get the feeling that half the respondents on this thread are fairly clueless about Guaranteed Delivery?
There are TWO GD options. OP chose the HANDLING TIME option, which they fulfilled. They did not guarantee USPS delivery performance. As GD policy explains, eBay takes the fall for that under the handling time option.
Folks need to throttle back on the lectures.

Actually, the mail still moves on Sunday, and i am not really sure why, but have actually seen USPS package deliveries happen on Sundays.

Well, yes, you need the snap as proof that you completed the handling part. It’s the delivery date that shouldn’t affect you.

It seems to be a general rule of thumb, that any new concept that eBay comes up with, DON"T opt in. And if they try and force it on you like they did with me with the GSP, find a way to opt OUT. I had to do that twice with the Global Shipping Program. GSP is not a good tool for members who sell small less expensive items. I like to be in complete control of my shipping. I trust no one else to care about it as much as i do.

I feel your pain.
How do you think BUYERS feel? I'm sitting here waiting on YET ANOTHER "GUARANTEED" delivered by today package that USPS says is still 1-2 days away.
Seems like if eBay says delivery is GUARANTEED by a certain date, the only GUARANTEE is that the item will be late. Like every single other eBay GUARANTEE this thing is a big fat "aw, shoot" nothingburger.
Can't trust a THING eBay says any more, whether you're a buyer or seller. All their arrogantly incompetent interference does is get trading partners upset with each other.
eBay needs to GET OUT OF THE WAY and let buyers and sellers deal. This is just ridiculous.

It sounds like the guaranteed delivery experience just accentuates the lateness. I just hope ebay doesn't raise everyone's fees next update to cover the payouts they are guaranteed to have to cover with this fiasco.
