Ups and eBay just hit me for $1505 bill for a label. I already paid $150, that's what I was quoted and accurately put in the dimensions. I have photos of my dimensions. I will not pay the bogus fee becasue UPS claims my 67x42.5x5 box was 68x43x7. They charged me an extra $1350 for this. I've already told eBay I refuse to pay it , and have put my listings on permanent vacation . If it's not fixed I'm closing my eBay and going after both ups and eBay through court for destroying my "online business" I'm paying taxes on. I won't be able to afford to pay tax bills once I shut down nor can it currently function because the eBay account is -$1280 because this and refuse to sell my items for free or pay shipping costs out of my bank account.
So essentially their falsified dimensions and fees are forcing me to shut down. Both parties are at fault. Since I'm waiting on minimum 10 days for a case resolution I'm already losing over $1000 a week based on my 3 month average sales. Mind you I've paid both ups and eBay over 100k each the past 5 years in fees and shipping labels. This is my "Thanks".

I'll bet if you laid that box flat on the floor you would see a bulge in the dead center middle of the box that took the measurement to close to 7". It doesn't matter what the corner measures, if any part of that "short side" measurement is over 5" that is what will be measured.
You took pictures of the measurements, so I am sure you knew you were pushing your luck with your measurements.

I took them for this very reason because i knew I was close. I've shipped several in the past that were close and never an issue. Regardless , it's costing me money third day in a row and will be a nightmare if it's not straightened out. I never would have listed it if I couldn't ship it correctly. The middle wasn't bulging , as the item was on 2 1/2" thick and i wrapped with 1/2" bubble per side putting it at 3 1/2 except the corners which were right around 5". Now if the box had a cut in the cardboard or tape hanging and they picked that up maybe. I've absorbed erroneous surcharges in the past but I can't absorb this and will shut down.

Is it possible you could get the buyer to take the box with the shipping label on it to a UPS Center and have them measure it and provide this information?

Okay, not sure if anyone has said this, but did you go to the UPS website and put in the dimensions and weight and the corresponding zip code? I am really curious as to what it would charge, because there is no way it is 1500.00!!!!!

I'm not going to bother them, it's been 6 days and they paid $800 for the sign.. Also it's been opened and likely damaged from opening it up.

Yes ... eBay calculating and okay'ing the same except there was the eBay discount going thru eBay of 60%. Total cost to ship was $152 which is still a lot of money. Now they want an extra $1350+

But did you know you selected his answer as 'best'?

No and don't think I can change it. Not a bad idea but nobody at UPS cares. I've already talked to my guy at the distribution center and they can't do anything it's all corporate **bleep** and multi layered departments. There's no human involvement its all automated.

There is no best answer here. It as appears that the OP is getting the Royal bend over and must take the spanking.
Sorry for your loss.

@vtgbeersigns wrote:Considering I've paid eBay and UPS well over 100k in each in the last 5 years, it's more concerning they'd risk throwing away this kind of revenue over an inch.
These type of details are never considered in these cases, it may sound like a valid defense but it's not going to gain you any advantage with them. You will want to stick to the actual facts of the specific event, neither past nor future performance will affect the outcome of the case. Were you to actually try and use this while presenting your case to ebay it is even possible this could be used against you.
I do agree with you in that this is corporate thievery, especially with the way that they "defend" themselves behind thick walls of multiple layers of menu trees and personnel that none of whom can do anything except transfer the problem around and around and around and around, you get the idea.
The sad of it is, the surcharges are particularly nasty in that they don't simply charge you what it would've cost instead. They overcharge in every one of these cases, and grossly so, which makes me believe the whole system is ripe with corruption.
Think about it, if you could simply charge a customer an extra $1500 because according to some convoluted circular policies of yours... And get away with it, $1500 for nothing but claiming something violated your policy, how many sellers would actually try it?
I only wonder why UPS / Fedex don't simply overcharge everyone?
I mean why not?

No, in shipping land any overage is rounded up, why for myself I do my best not to come close to the "limit."
I do agree on the 6" vs 7" bit.

Not per the shipper's posted guidelines. I round down all the time when applicable.

I can easily sell locally at a 20%-35% discount and get rid of most my stuff easily without fees and wasting time and money on shipping. The most likely scenario. This whole ordeal is insane and a big problem meanwhile sales have been declining for years as well as item prices , due to cost of living , competition , and shipping fees.

So many people arguing over 1/16 and AI is unforgiving. The system has some slack in both fedex, ups and usps cause the problem it generates for them outweighs the extra cost. Its not a lot but it is there.
this is clearly a glitch even.
Two years ago fed ex keeps adding 2" to 10+ packages for extra charges that they finally fixed it and refunded me..
DHL always added extra charges to my packages eventhough it was weight correctly.
All these system has flaws.
