Fraudulent UPS Shipping Fee for $1346.94

Ups and eBay just hit me for $1505 bill for a label. I already paid $150, that's what I was quoted and accurately put in the dimensions.  I have photos of my dimensions. I will not pay the bogus fee becasue UPS claims my 67x42.5x5 box was 68x43x7. They charged me an extra $1350 for this.  I've already told eBay I refuse to pay it , and have put my listings on permanent vacation . If it's not fixed I'm closing my eBay and going after both ups and eBay through court for destroying my "online business"  I'm paying taxes on. I won't be able to afford to pay tax bills once I shut down nor can it currently function because the eBay account is -$1280 because this and refuse to sell my items for free or pay shipping costs out of my bank account.

So essentially their falsified dimensions and fees are forcing me to shut down. Both parties are at fault. Since I'm waiting on minimum 10 days for a case resolution I'm already losing over $1000 a week based on my 3 month average sales. Mind you I've paid both ups and eBay over 100k each the past 5 years in fees and shipping labels. This is my "Thanks".

>>I have photos of dimensions.

Outer dimensions with a tape measure or dimensions printed on the box which are inner dimensions?

That's a really hefty charge for oversized packages.

Sounds like you already contacted eBay CS to file a dispute and you're waiting for UPS's answer.

Outer box dimensions.  I rounded up the 42.5" to 43" when I entered them on eBay.  Ups rounded up my stock 5" box to 7" and and my 67" to 68" causing the charge.  The item inside was on 2.5" and the box was 5" wide but ups claims it was 7".

It is possible for the dimensions to change during shipping like if the box gets skewed or one side gets a little crushed and bulges out - UPS will look at those larger dims.

But it's a truly ridiculous charge. I hope UPS's review finds it was their error and refunds you. Keep us posted and good luck!

Large items like this should be pick-up only / pay then.

UPS and FedEx are known to do this.

Are you calculating these packages yourself?

How do weight them?

Do you not have personal cost for a box and packing materials? Did you add them into the listing?

if you have a package that is say 20 1/4 x 38 1/2" x 14 1/8", you need to enter as 21" x 39" x 15"

photos taken on January 29, day of shipment.   Arrived January 31.  UPS expedited this fee within 5 days of delivery , when typically if there's an adjustment it takes 2-4 weeks.

Your dimensions are only very slightly smaller vs. theirs and they're both huge. I'm sure they're both over the dimensional cap. You didn't mention weight. That is a huge upcharge though.

1st- I doubt there was that much difference in cost to ship between what you stated the size was and what they stated, meaning that is NOT the reason for the surcharges to hit. It was the package size itself.

You seemed to be 'pushing it' selling a 42" x 66" Sign and stating the package is only 1" larger? No cushion at all?

You stated 5" but you are over (per your photo), so should be 6".

You stated 67" but it's a pinch over (per your photo) so should be 68"

68x43x6 would be 10.15 Cubic Feet

What you stated would be 8.33 Cubic Feet

What they stated would be 11.85 Cu Feet.

All 3 of those could easily be WAY over $150 (depending on from/to zips).

UPS and Fedex always have 'surcharges' that are determined AFTER the shipment, the $150 is only an 'estimate' (sadly, way off, but this giant package sounds correct)

Surcharges for things like 'Residential' and 'oversized' (which it is) could be that huge amount.

Have you shipped same size before?

What was zip to zip if you did?

Was it going to Residence?

I've shipped over 5000 boxes and over 2500 large signs , mirrors , and blow molds.   Nothing ever like this.  I had exact measurements entered and made sure before I dropped off it was exact.

Weight didn't put it over the sign was plastic.  It was less than 15lbs.  I entered my dimensions on eBay and UPS accepted them, with the discount it was around $159.   I had 3" of lee way before it was considered oversized and UPS is claiming I'm over and it means a $1340 large box fee.

How is it 3" leeway when the sign was 42" x 66"- you said you had 43" x 67"??

3" would be 45" x 69" wouldn't it??

It went to a residence.  It was 3/16" plastic I didn't need much padding in the corners.  I triple checked everything.

Looks like UPS does oversized at 165" (Length x Girth) Your 67 x 43 x (what should've been 6) would mean 67x43x43x6x6 which is exactly 165" (oversized).  Your calcs using 5" sides would be 163", but again- per your photo, should've been 6" sides??

I'm saying 3" lee way until it's oversized.  Ups racked on 3" to make it EXACTLY oversized, not even by 1".  That is how they racked on the $1340+ fee.   If they measured 1" less it would have been the exact cost I paid.

Large items I would take in person to a UPS Store so there are no surprise add-on charges later in life.

And let UPS measure it.

And buy postage at the counter with a clerk.

I think after 3 days eBay usually takes what is owed($1280.) from your banking account since no more funds are being processed and no more available funds...might get a little more time with the 'resolution case'.

Just a thought but I would sell items so as to have sales and get that negative balance down so eBay doesn't take funds out of your bank account. Just a thought here.

That is a crazy 'upcharge' for sure.
