Feedback

It's getting a little frustrating that buyers don't leave feedback. As all sellers hope to get positive feedback from buyers to help the buying public know they are a trusted seller. But lately, I've noticed an unwillingness to leave feedback for sellers. Myself, I've wrote to buyers asking them to please use this tool to let others know I'm a trusted seller. Ebay keeps a system to account for your positive selling rating. Yet, they do nothing to help sellers get feedback from buyers. I would propose that, if a buyer leaves no feedback, positive or negative, ebay should give the seller a positive mark. It's a simple as that. We sellers are left in limbo, when we can't get a buyer to leave feedback. I've put in the body of some of my sales that it would nice if they, are happy with their purchase, to be kind and take moment to leave feedback. I've even had a customer say, he, or she, has done a lot of buying, state, "They would leave me feedback, because they always do," and yet nothing. Even after I had asked if they would please leave positive feedback if they were happy with their purchase. Yet, nothing. So my seller rating doesn't move, it's frustrating to say the least. Stuck! At this rate, it will take me years to move to the next level. It's just not fair. So from now on, I will not leave a buyer any feedback until they leave me feedback. I see some sellers with thousand's of positive feedback. That leads me to believe they are dealers. There's no way I can achieve even the next level because I don't sell tons of product. Ebay needs to do something for sellers in this predicament.

Re: Feedback

I get about 20-30% of my transactions get feedback from buyers.  And that feels pretty high, actually.

My method for getting feedback from buyers:

  1. Provide stellar customer service.
    1. Fast shipping.
    2. Accurate.
    3. Quality packing keeps things looking professional.
  2. See Step 1.
  3. After that, as a seller, since I can't leave negative anyway, as soon as I ship the order, I leave positive feedback for the buyer.  I would say that this aside from the major STEP 1, above, is buyers are more likely to leave positive feedback if they've received positive feedback first.

Don't beg or pester your buyers to leave feedback.   This is not helping you leave a positive impression on them.

I have over 5000 feedback and I'm not a 'dealer'.  I've just been doing this for years.  It takes time.  That and... at the end of the day that 'next level' of rating is... totally useless.  I'd say customers look at basically 'is it above zero, how much above zero, and is the percentage of positives 100% or pretty close'

Re: Feedback

1.) No sense in getting all worked up about it- 20-30% is the norm

2.) If you wait until they give it to you, you will only get a couple irate customers that state 'I did my part, I bought and I paid!'.. so then you will definitely get feedback- the kind you don't want!

3.) Careful what you wish for- push customers to give you feedback, and some may not be so kind

Re: Feedback

No one is required to leave feedback, ever.   That's the bottom line.

Re: Feedback

Your post (which I've read many similar over the years) made me think about my own buying habits. First of all, I seldom think to look at a seller's feedback.  If I do, I might check out how they respond to negatives or take note of whether they are a 1 or 2 or if they are a big number and may be less likely to respond if I have a question, etc.   That last thought made me hope I get no more feedback -- I don't want buyers thinking that.   What do you mean by big number sellers are dealers?

I have another ID with a much lower feedback number and never felt it affected my selling.  I would never ask for feedback.  It's sort of an outdated old school detail on ebay .

Bottom line for me when I buy--it really doesn't matter since I am covered by the money back guarantee if I have a problem.

Re: Feedback

" I would propose that, if a buyer leaves no feedback, positive or negative, ebay should give the seller a positive mark. It's a simple as that."

No, it's not as simple as that.

I have, on rare occasion, withheld feedback because the seller didn't deserve any.

I do not want ebay making such decisions for me and I don't believe ebay would do so.

If you want to pester buyers for feedback then be prepared for a negative or even less sales.

"So from now on, I will not leave a buyer any feedback until they leave me feedback."

You can play that game but it's a stupid game imo.

You will get even less. At least thank them for their purchase in a shipping note.

On my selling account I get around 30% return feedback, it's just the way it is. It is nice to get it, but it is not why I sell.
