I'm not on the forums very much, so I wanted to get your valued opinions. I've been a seller on eBay for 23 years. My sales have been declining in the last year especially. I read someone say that you have to be modifying or adding listings frequently or your store won't get "indexed" by Google. I also read someone said listings older than 9 months should be ended and restarted with "Sell Similar". So I've been doing that on some older listings for the past 2 months. But it hasn't helped one bit!!! Because of the extreme drop in sales, I'm no longer TRS due to less than 100 transactions in a year. So that doesn't help my listings visibility. My question is: I have quite a few listings that are very old (6-11 years!). But they have an extreme amount of watchers. Should I just bite the bullet and end them and restart, and lose all those watchers? Or will it hurt my overall shop stats? Ugh!!

Have you tried sending offers to the watchers? We send offers on all of our listings and about 15% of the watchers turn into buyers. We don't end and relist, either. If your category isn't crowded you don't need to. That only seems to apply to categories that have lots of listings.

That's a good idea! I could definitely try that now on the listings with the most watchers.

Try adding some 'other' type items; maybe something to compliment what you sell (thread, needles, stuffing?)

There is a lot of folklore recounted and believed by some Ebay sellers.
Some of it may be true.
Some of it may work for someone, sometimes.
Much of it is busy work for people who feel the need to do something, other than acquire more inventory which is more desirable, and list it.

I would send out offers for anything you can. I believe buyers have 4 days to respond (or not). After that perhaps look over your listings to see if you can make any improvements. Then I would sell similar and update the listings to get new listing numbers. At least you won't feel bad about watchers.
I think about 15% of my small sales are from sending offers to actual watchers.

Thank you! I just sent the offers to watchers- it says it went to 163 people. So that should help restart things I hope!! In the meantime, I agree I do have to add more listings. And yes, if a few more months go buy without sales on those older listings, I will restart them.

I don't "refresh" my listings.
If someone wants to buy my item, they will buy it.
It doesn't matter if the listing is a day old or a year old.

Your situation is not unlike that of a lot of sellers. The pandemic drove and explosion in ecommerce and eBay is no longer the only game in town. I diversified a long time ago across multiple platforms and venues and eBay which used to account for about 90% of my sales by volume now only accounts for about 20%. There are a LOT of specialty online sites that cater to a targeted buyer market and audience. There are several targeted at the quilter market.
Shipping is also becoming a major factor especially for lower priced items where the shipping cost drives the total cost of the item out of the competitive market range. I seldom list lower dollar items these days but tend to bundle items into lots and the shipping cost for a lot of items is often the same or a few cents more than what it would have cost the buyer to ship a single item.
Good advice on using "sell similar" I do that on items that are 4-5 months old. Others suggestions about sending offers is a good one and hope that works out well for you. Like you I have lost my TRS a few times due to low total volume sales but it really has not harmed my sales that much and I eventually get the TRS back.
The best way to find ways to improve your sales is to experiment with different approaches and options. Consider diversifying to other platforms and venues and possibly your product line. Above all AVOID the use of promoted listings it is a death spiral race to the bottom. There is no way to prove the use of PL improves sales and the only one it benefits for sure is eBay.

Thank you, dbfolks166mt! Yes, for most of the time eBay was about 90% of my sales. Now it has become 5-10% of my sales, if that. I really would like to help it recover. I did use Promoted listings for a while, then finally took it off as it simply took more $ without really making much of a difference. Like others have said, you have to have a very high % for it to make a difference. I agree shipping costs are awful and most customers don't realize it. After selling fabric for so long, I really want to focus on making baby quilts. But those sure take a long time to sell when you're online and they can't see it in person. Like you said, we have to experiment with different options!

Watchers are not sales to repeat someone else. Views don't guarantee sales. Followers don't guarantee sales.
On another site, I have thousands of followers, but have been making 1 sale a week; go figure.
On Ebay I get a lot of watches, but I make 1 sale a week; go figure.
Online sales is saturated.

A watcher is someone who viewed your listing and decided not to buy it.
