I am devastated, not only because my spouse is very near death, but because I was also told that I will have to start all over with a new ebay account . We have over 11000 feedbacks and have been selling on ebay since the year 2000. I even spoke with a person there who told me they will not transfer a name under any circumstances. How unfair since I am the person behind his ebay. He was the pack and ship part. Has anyone else encountered this, and does anyone have any suggestions how I can keep some reputation on ebay? Thank you.

Very sorry to hear about your situation.
If you can afford to do so, I'd contact an attorney who specializes in these sorts of matters and get their opinion. There may well be ways of assuming control of the account in ways not mentioned heretofore. Regards

Thank you so much for your kind response. I'm sure there may be ways, but I don't venture out much, have some social anxiety. But I appreciate your suggestion..

It is unlikely that this expense would get the OP anywhere. Ebay is allowed to have their rules as long as they are not illegal. There is nothing illegal about not allowing tax ID numbers and birthdates to be changed on an account that I'm aware of. Just my opinion of course. But likely a waste of money.

Yes, I was including sole proprietorship as well when I mentioned business entity. Not sure why you assumed otherwise.
The whole point of the post is from the looks of it, it doesn't seem the OP has any business entity linked to their account. Hence a personal account. Changing it to a business account using an LLC would probably resolve her issue since the account is linked to her husband's SSN.
@simply-the-best-for-you I'm not sure if that EIN for SP behaves like it does for LLC and other multi-member entities though. If you aren't able to eventually take over that EIN for SP, then going that route wouldn't resolve the OP's issue. But for LLC's I'm pretty sure you can.
@iamalwaysright Sorry, I got crazy busy for 2 days, including being almost stranded overnight in the worst blizzard of my life. IDK how much is different about the process & how it behaves. I applied for it & received it in the mail shortly thereafter. At first I was able to use it on eBay but when they started with the KYC stuff, suddenly started having problems when verifying, even though it had been my EIN for years. Doesn't help much, I know.

It's a misconception when people think you can't get an EIN with a SP. I just recall hearing back when I opened my LLCs that getting an EIN thru a SP is different than an EIN thru LLC or other multi member entities. Not sure how though, I'm just assuming the way it ties to the individual or group. There's more hoops to jump thru when getting LLC vs SP.
Sorry replied to the wrong before. IDK if it's different or if so, in what way. I would just think the application would have several pricipals on it. I would think its' the exact same app I filled out. I'm sure there are more hoops on the LLC side of things, maybe it's a different form to ask for one if you're an LLC. TBH, it was so long ago, it's hard to remember. I know it was a very simple 1 page form, but that's about all I remember.

I just wanted to know if anyone else had to start over and if they could give me some tips. Ebay is certainly not my priority at this time, but it does distract me briefly from my loss. Please don't judge, the last 2 weeks have been hell.
I am so sorry for what you're going through & that nasty response someone gave you! I just went through this with a parent, so I know how difficult it is & I completly understand that you also have to deal with the estate & finances! The first week was spent doing nothing but finances, b/c the other parent was completely clueless. Sadly, when accts are getting closed right & left without your knowledge even, you HAVE TO spend time on the finances even though it's the last thing you want to do. I am so sorry you're dealing with ALL of this! Please feel free to come here & ask questions any time!
