Death of a spouse

I am devastated, not only because my spouse is very near death, but because I was also told that I will have to start all over with a new ebay account .  We have over 11000 feedbacks and have been selling on ebay since the year 2000.  I even spoke with a person there who told me they will not transfer a name under any circumstances.  How unfair since I am the person behind his ebay.  He was the pack and ship part.  Has anyone else encountered this, and does anyone have any suggestions how I can keep some reputation on ebay?  Thank you.

Even if you HAD a basis to make that reply, certainly a lot more than a single short-paragraph post  that is simply asking for advice that may be time-sensitive (like requiring a signature from the spouse for instance) .... what on EARTH good did you think you'd be doing to write such a cruel accusation?  And what do YOU know about what arrangements they have or haven't made for the funeral, talking to friends, etc.??!

You should edit it immediately.  For goodness sake, what is wrong with you?

Read the original post and again if needed.

From the O.P. - not only because my spouse is very near death, but because I was also told that I will have to start all over with a new ebay account.

You focus on family and friends first.

an eBay account is the last thing to worry about in a situation like this.

Notice how the OP is not being active on this thread they started?  Likely because they are off taking care of some pretty serious personal things.

You can try to redress what you said, but it was trolling, hurtful and totally unnecessary.  You don't know what this OP is doing right now.  You ASSUME because they have a concern for their future that they are not paying close enough attention to what their partner is currently going through.

I stand by my other post.  You should really apologize to the OP as you were way out of line.

Bash me as you will to make you look good here.

The O.P. needs to focus on their spouse's health, family, relatives, friends, and neighbors.

The eBay account status should be the last thing to think about under these circumstances.

So you are saying you were able to change the Ownership of your account to include the taxpayer ID number?

Since the taxpayer ID number is grayed out, how did you accomplish changing that.  That would be a helpful piece of information.

Don't confuse this with changing your personal information.  That is separate in your account set up.

Well, how do you know this ISN'T the last thing they started thinking about under the circumstances?

And when would it be okay with you for her to think about it?  The day after the death?  A week?  A month? Before or after the bank threatens to take the house?   You think complex business stuff is going to be easier when he's gone forever and she's deep in mourning?

-But hey since you're the one laying out the rules, why not provide the OP with an entire itinerary of all the whats/whens of her grieving behaviors?

Hmmm, my wife has me(lucky me) as beneficiary if anything happens to her on her bank accounts where I will be ownership of the funds in case anything happens...this is the first thing to do when someone is near death or even just married...I think that just requires a signature. And she has the money...I am the poor one.

I would probably start a new eBay account with your name as well as keeping the other account.

USA Bank offers free checking for those over 65 years of age if that comes into play...no monthly fees...and no minimum deposits.

Feedbacks are meaningless to eBay these days...only tracking seems important these days and items received.

You have the 'experience' of everything so I don't think it would be a problem.

And don't forget about 'time away' on items for sale if an emergency comes up.

Part right, If it is a company, S, C or LLC that business entity would pass to her upon her husbands passing.  The EIN would then be hers alone.  No eBay Issue.  The first part is correct she would need to start as a new person.  Now here is a clear change eBay could make to help a long time Seller with 25 years on the platform.  I would assume this company has been profitable for the Seller and eBay.  This is a time when real help would be compassion.  Why cause a good business to start over.  We all know a 25 year online presents will do better than one just starting out no matter what the marketing plan is.  I get eBay has no interest in helping Sellers succeed .  They give a good deal of chatter on how they are helping.  Truth behind the chatter is eBay makes more margin and Seller lose margin.  If this were a partnership issue involving several people I can see the liability concerns eBay may perceive.  A husband and wife doing a small business it is disgusting to have her lose her place on the platform with the amount of time and effort they have put into the building of the business.  Isn't she going to lose enough already.  Minor change to policy and this issue does not exits.

So sorry for what you are going through.  This is what eBay will consider Seller protection!

First as others have said set up as a business in your state. Then you will need to convert your ebay account to a business account. During the set up process ebay will ask you for information for all owners that control more then 25% of the company and you will have to provide the information for both you and your husband .  Being the company has more then one owner the 1099 will be issued to the business EIN. Once the business account is set up in ebay you will be able to choose who is the primary contact for the business. which you would just change to yourself. Then if your husband passes you can just go in and remove him as a beneficiary owner leaving you as the sole owner of the account.

I think making sure finances are in order is something that anyone should probably be doing when faced with the impending death of a spouse.

Even if eBay is their source of income?

You know nothing about this person's private circumstances - they're not going to discuss their spouse's illness here, they've come to ask a question where it is appropriate to ask.
