Complaints?

Will we be able to lodge complaints at this upcoming forum? Several seller friends and I can't believe Ebay advertises on our sites (that we 'pay to rent') and that they confuse buyers with their 'suggested retail price".   A $2,000 painting by a well known listed artist does NOT sell for $75.00!

Re: Complaints?

@werkstatte  Actually, you are being incredibly vague about the suggested price issue, and if you make that complaint to ebay with the same lack of clarity, you won't be helping yourself.

1. When listing using ebay's listing form, ebay does sometimes suggest prices to the seller. For commodity items, some of these are probably pretty useful. For things like art and antiques, they are usually ignored by knowledgeable sellers. They aren't shown to buyers.

2. If you are talking about ebay suggesting to the BUYER on your View Item page that the "suggested retail price" is "x", that's a whole different thing. I don't believe I've seen ebay do that for a painting or other artwork, so it might help if you could point us to a listing that contains the suggested retail price.

Oh, probably...sorry. I thought it was visible to all. I think we should be able to opt for this service. They are generally coming from left field.

It is pretty good for commodity type items but it is going to be wildly inaccurate for the sort of thing I see in your store.

I don't even look at it, I already know what the price is before I get down to the price section anyway.

Re: Complaints?

Same here...But, I thought it was on the buyer's end, too.      ...It's just annoying, putting down accurate details/descriptions, etc, and Ebay feels free to pile on the adverts and other distractions.

eBay pages are NOT "our sites". eBay lets you use part of the listing page but it still belongs to eBay. If you want to control everything then you need to start your own website that YOU can control.

I don't think I have ever seen that on anything.  Could someone point me to a listing that has that?

Re: Complaints?

They do it with EVERYTHING. But, a fellow ebayer has pointed out to me that it is visible only on the seller's page...a relief. Advertising others' items on our pages, though, is certainly a buyer's distraction we really don't need.

Re: Complaints?

Correct, it is NOT visible to the buyer. Which is why we were confused when you said " they confuse buyers with their 'suggested retail price".

They don't confuse me as a seller with their suggested price in the listing form. Annoy me a little, yes but confuse me, no.

As far as your other issue, that ebay advertises other sellers' listings on the View Item page, well, sure , you can complain about that, but it won't be a complaint ebay hasn't heard a million times before, from many sellers, including many on this Board..

Re: Complaints?

Advertising other sellers items in your listing is good for buyers.  More options = happier buyers = repeat buyers.

what 'upcoming' forum? Is there a 'new' forum coming?

I think that reference was to the upcoming eBay Open 2023 events at the end of September. They promise live events in Phoenix, Atlanta, Chicago and Philadelphia on Sept. 26th, and virtual events from 9/27 through 9/29.

P.S. Am going through the signup now, and I notice that it's $25 a person for the Live event day. Virtual-only attendance is free.

Re: Complaints?

@a_c_green  The (non-refundable) $25 for the Live Event is to give you incentive to actually show up--- no one wants to lose 25 bucks. However, my understanding is you will get a $25 ebay gift card along with ebay swag if you do show up, so it pretty much cancels out the $25 cost.

Oh, I don't doubt that; I was thinking much the same (that making an actual payment was a showing-up incentive). The last one I attended in Chicago was back in 2019 (on 9/11, oddly enough), and I thought it was worthwhile, as well as well-attended.

The keynote dog-and-pony show covered multiple topics, beginning with a talk about Managed Payments, which was just coming into mainstream awareness around about then. It was not popular at the time, since it represented the end of PayPal for seller use, and I remember the audience sat in stony silence for the first 20-30 minutes while they explained the whole thing.

Finally they transitioned into talking about the new Item Specifics functionality, and that got people more enthusiastic, as it seemed to fulfill a seller need at last. (I'm not saying it's problem-free today, just telling you my recollection of how the presentation went in 2019.)

After that we broke into various topic-specific groups to which you could attend at your preference, and I'm not going to relate all that now (for one thing, it was four years ago), but I did have the opportunity to network with others and collect a few business cards.

So, getting back to my point at last, I was a little surprised on my way out to see the conference staff double-stuffing the swag bags with a second package of eBay shipping supplies, in addition to the one  bundle already placed in each. I was told that due to a quantity of no-shows, they needed to reduce the mountain of leftover goodies. I can't remember now whether we had to buy tickets for the event in 2019, but I can definitely see where they're coming from this time around.

Well, you were (vague).... and still are.

It's NOT that hard to explain, in plain english, what EXACTLY your issue is.

If you are considering yourself an 'educated author'; that is your FIRST and FORMOST mistake.

YOU don't get to determine what something is worth.

The Buyer does.

Period.

Re: Complaints?

It's ok. Life exists outside of the Ebay autocracy and it's congenial (?) followers. I thought this was supposed to be a helpful forum...NOT.    I'll stick to phoning in questions/complaints.      Buh-bye.
