eBay adds the ads of those willing to pay for promoting their items.

Also, as was posted by someone in another thread, it's just like a newspaper ad. You don't get the page (the entire newspaper) all to yourself.

eBay is here to make money from the items that people have to sell.  They show the items wherever they please.

You are not the first to notice and complain about this, it's just something we have to live with as sellers. Personally, I don't know how much difference it makes. If a buyer is on your listing, they're not going to get distracted that easily by adds. Most will look at yours first, then if they decide they don't want your item, then they look at the other suggested listings. But they will almost always take a look at the listing they are already on first. This has been my experience.

Those ads are there because other sellers are paying to have them there.  It's how eBay now works, and it is quite unlikely to change, despite the objections of some sellers and of some buyers who find them annoying.

It means that you must work extra hard to have good, clear, sharp, useful photos along with the best titles and descriptions you're capable of writing.

I posted this in a similar thread...I kind of liked it LOL

---------------------

I am not sure how I feel about this subject, but, how about a contrarian view for this?

If that many 'competitors' similar items would show up on my listing page, it would enhance my superior listing that has clear, bright, detailed pictures, accurate descriptions and relevant information/item specifics to instantly compare the superiority of my item to all the other wannabes.

I am confident my listing is more appealing than most of my competitors.

Give the buyer confidence looking at your listing compared to the others.

Ads for my own items showed up on my listing the other day. Money well spent?

But, from someone who has worked in advertising and marketing my entire working life and also actually published a newspaper ... you go to great lengths to make sure that there is some space between ads of competitors. Don't put two ads for a car dealer on the same page ... don't even put them on facing pages if you can help it. It is simple advertising ethics and companies who choose to ignore that look like poor examples of advertising to me. I cringe every time I see one car dealer spot right after another on TV ... if I were running that ad department someone would get fired!

And just the other day when I was looking at some horse magazine listings here guess what showed up in the promoted list ... a picture of the cover of a magazine with a woman's bare behind sticking out. Also I see them putting lots of listings on a magazine listing when the promoted listings are using Media Mail to ship their magazines ... humm, guess eBay is OK with that since they are shoving it right in our faces.

It defeats your goal, but not eBay's goal. Because you and eBay have different goals.

Your goal is to get the buyer to buy your item. eBay's goal is to get the buyer to buy any item.

You are getting a piece of the pie.  The more you pay, the bigger piece of pie you get.
