I want to cancel an order that is going to cost significantly more than I thought to ship, to the point it makes no sense to sell it. If I do this is there any fee from ebay? WIll I get a penatly or defect from ebay? Will final value fees be refunded? Will paypal refund all fees? If I get a defect how does will that affect my acount if I only sell a few things at a time?

Yes, you wll get a defect when you cancel the transaction.
Paypal will refundd your 2.9% fee but will keep the 30-cents part of their fee.

If it's a rare event it won't have any impact on your account.
Into your life it will creep

No fee from eBay.
WIll I get a penatly or defect from ebay?
Yes, you will get a defect ... defects will cause you problems with eBay, and you want to avoid them at all costs. Personally, I would ship the item at a loss before taking a defect ... I've taken losses a couple of times when I was out of stock of an item, choosing to drop-ship or buy from another seller. Defects, such as a failed sales transaction, also cause buyers to turn sour on eBay. You are hurting all of us when you purposefully treat a customer poorly.
Will final value fees be refunded?
Yes.
Will paypal refund all fees?
You will get back all but 30 cents.

Defects are very bad.
- You run the risk of being put into the "below standard" category if more than 2% of your transactions are defective. When this happens, your fees jump from 10% to 14%, and anything you try to sell will be further down in the listings ... eBay will purposely obscure you because it wants to put good sellers in front of buyers.
- Too many defects (not sure the number) and your selling privileges will be suspended.
- The buyer can leave you negative feedback.
- No one knows, specifically, how the search algorithms at eBay operate. But, if a person shows poor customer service, then it is generally thought that your items for sell will not be as visible as would better sellers. Will this happen with one defect? I don't know ... but it might.

Every defect you incur means that eBay has just shortened your leash in terms of your seller performance. If you sell a lot, one defect may not mean a lot because it's a small percentage of your total transactions. But if your total transactions is small, one defect will have a big impact.

If I select "problem with buyers address" would that prevent a defect?

You cannot make up a reason.
If the problem is not his address, then you cannot use it as the reason.

That is the reason, I am not out of stock. The buyers address is to far away.

Did you not charge sufficient postage? That's you on then.
If it's a domestic sale, then too far away isn't a legitimate reason to be a problem with buyer's address.

Exact details provided to experienced posters could yield a better solution than not shipping.
How much did you sell it for?
What did you charge (or what did the shipping calc charge) the buyer for shipping?
How much is the actual shipping charge?
What are the exact dimensions?
What is the weight?
Origin Zip code?
Destination Zip code?

So you think the right thing to do is to blame your buyer for your inability to properly charge the correct shipping or pricing of your item? I'll answer that---it is not your buyer's fault.
Is this about the lamp again that everyone gave you plenty of advice about?

You got yourself into a situation where you're going to have to take your medicine either way.
Grow up, grow a pair and deal with it. eBay is not for children.
