Can't accept a Buyer's Offer

A buyer emailed offering a lesser amount than the listing.  EBay prevents me sending an offer accepting his price.  Says there is an existing offer.  Who cares if there is an existing offer? The offer was acceptable and I was using the offer button on his message. EBay IT has sunk to new lows.

Why don't you get rid of the existing offer by rejecting it?

Ebay does which is why they have the system preventing you due to existing offer.

I don't think it's a glitch.

Ebay just doesn't allow a buyer to have mutiple strings of offers on an item because that would be problematic.

@irishmichael4585

In order for you to "accept" an offer, it must be made through the "make an offer" feature on your listing.  If the buyer is just messaging you, you cannot accept an offer through that means in itself.  If your listing DOES NOT have the "make offer feature", it will not work.  The very few that you have that do have the make offer feature require the buyer to put up a payment source in order to make an offer in the first place, which many buyers will not do anyway.

There was a feature that you could 'reply to the message with offer' but if you have the new (UN)improved message system it is likely that feature is not available.

Did your item have the make offer feature?  OR  Did you send offers to others on that item?  If you did, once they all expire you can edit the listing to reflect the 'new' price you are willing to accept and let the buyer know the price has been reduced.

I no longer use offers, but if I got an acceptable one and didn't have the ability to accept I would just end the item and relist it as a specific buyer item ( I will usually put a crazy price on it and set an auto accept at the agreed price, explain that to the buyer and they have had no problems)

But don't you have a Reply with Offer button accompanying the buyer's message? Type in his offer amount as your reply amount and send it back for him to accept...?

It seems that if there is an existing offer (frequently auto sent by eBay) you can't change the listing or send an offer if someone requests but wasn't sent an offer by eBay.
