This is NOT the same issue that we asked about a few weeks ago.
20 years selling on ebay. 15 years same address, same phone, same email. Always got 1099s from Paypal then ebay. No problem.
Suddenly, get two screaming messages titled:
“You need to update your account details by Jan 23, 2023 on file in order to avoid any issues with payouts in the future. Update account details”
We never had any payout issues.
“Let's get you back on track. We need to verify your eBay account's phone and email.”
Huh? If we were off track we didn’t know it.
And then:
Let's get you back on track (again)
To pass verification, you'll need one of these documents for the primary contact on your account.
Messages are through/on the ebay page with a big red banner at the top. This isn’t a big deal at all. But why is it written this way? I’m concerned that someone tried to hack the account but everything seems okay. We even requested an immediate payout and it seemed to go through.

I have filled this out twice now and within a few hours the same red message appears again at the top of my dashboard.. What's up with that, If I did something wrong I wish they would just Tell me?????

Right hand talks not to Left Hand
I think eBay had its corpus callosium cut, or however it's spelled.

I filled this out twice yesterday, both front and back of DL; got another 'red banner' today so I sent it again, only larger pictures (don't know if they can't see it or what?). Now I have a red circle exclamation point stating 'no upcoming payouts' although I have money 'processing' and money 'pending' for a total. Did get a deposit this morning from last nights deposit (and email) but seems like I may not get one tomorrow?
Also, my middle initial is in my first name (space then middle) as it had to match the bank when signing up for MP 1.5 years ago. My DL has middle name fully spelled out- will that be a problem (or could be?)
Lastly- does anyone know if there is anyone in MP to contact (besides our wonderful CS?)

I got the message this morning and followed the link to provide a copy of my passport, and within minutes, I got the message again (via eBay messages). It came in email, I thought it was fake and the mouseover link looked a bit weird, but noticed my user ID and name at the bottom of the message, gave me pause to check eBay messages. When I went into my payments page, I had the red banner at the top.
I'm going to give a little advise to people providing documents... If you have a scanner, that is the best way to go. If you take a picture, make sure it's as clear as possible. I'm speaking from the standpoint of a person who has received similar documents from our customers and many of them are difficult to read. If eBay doesn't think the information is clear enough (and that's all info on the ID), they will reject it. So resubmitting the same document is probably not useful, maybe attempt to do better pictures. You also don't know what the person receiving that sees at their end.
So far I haven't gotten any new messages to update my info (when I got the second one and followed the link, it told me they were verifying the info and would remove the red banner from my selling page when the process was complete, which they did... I really hope they don't put me through this again tomorrow, it's beyond frustrating).
Anyway just my two cents for people who are getting repeated requests after they've done it, is that it might be the quality of the documents. It looks like you can only upload one photo too, which makes it tricky to have front and back of a DL (and I believe you need front and back).

I got that also last night. 2 messages from eBay and a red banner at the top of seller hub. So I took a photo of DL and sent it along and poof went the red banner lol.

Glad I'm not alone and am just as confused as some of you. Ask for verification of phone and email so I did that even though I've done it in the past and still have the red banner.

I'm having the same issue, but my deadline is Nov. 9. I'm hoping they'll soon figure out they have a glitch and will get it fixed before payments are frozen.

@mega-ma-roo wrote:If you are selling or have sold New items over the last 24 months, this could explain why you are getting these requests: The US INFORM laws | Seller Center (ebay.com)
- The US INFORM laws aim to create a safe and transparent online buying process and require marketplaces like eBay to collect, verify, and disclose certain high-volume seller information.
- A high-volume seller is someone who has sold 200 or more new items totaling more than $5,000 in a 12-month consecutive period over the last 24 months on our US site.
- If you meet that criteria, we’ll need to collect and verify some identification and contact information.
While Juan is absolutely right about the INFORM laws, those requests from eBay have not started yet! We had a Mentors meeting about it last week. Those WILL be coming in the near future. But unless something changed from last Thursday, the INFORM law requests are not happening yet.

same, same.

I just hope it was eBay.

When you give them a photo and your DL they already have your ss and bank information,, guess what.. they now have all they need for taking your identity. Etsy isn't asking for this information.. Not sure why Ebay needs it,, I"be been selling on Ebay for 19 years almost 20 now.. Whats going on with this???

The FULL name and address must match your checking account exactly. So if you only have an initial on eBay but the full name on your drivers license or checking account then you are going to have problems. All THREE need to match for verification.
As for CS help I would try the managed payments dept. at the bottom of this page:
Click contact us at the bottom of the page then type AGENT in the chat box to chat with a live agent or request a call back:

Yes, this could happen. ID theft. It opens that door. That's why I am also questioning ebay on this approach. I just got a third 3rd message from ebay about updating my ID.
